  1. Oh I had a Spooks fest at the weekend and watched all 3 on the iplayer. Its very Mi5 by Marks and Spencers. I rather like that. Do you think anyone in 24 would have stopped to consider the internal gifts and entertainment policy when presented with some vodka from the Russians, noooooooooo. As for Lucas North will always be John Thorton, the pent up passionate Northern mill owner from North and South. He was also a fireman in something. Actually whatever role he plays he has consistantly deliver quality lust to my loins and for that, I thank him.
  2. I was warming up for the 10k race for life in Crystal Palace Park.
  3. Oh that brings back memories I had neon pink toweling socks which I used to wear with black jeans, a black shirt and a neon pink tie. I shudder with no small amount of shame.
  4. Really there is no need to continue to call the place Grays... take inspiration from the north where Pontefract and Staley Bridge are referred to a Pontecarlo and Staley-vegas respectively on account of the glitzy-glamourous nights out to be had.
  5. I was working in Milan this year and I expected to feel embarrassingly unstylish but to my relief the Milanese appear to have a fond regard for double denim, or leather with tassles. Nasty on a grand scale. Personally I have always thought obvious designer wear suggests a lack of individuality in personal style, but I dont think about it that much as fundamentally I dont care about clothes, it really is whats underneath that counts ;-)
  6. because all women turn into their mothers!
  7. Maybe it is because mothers want their daughters to take advantage of different opportunities if they didnt have them. Odd though my mother stopped doing my ironing for me in my early teens, still does my brother's who is 25..

Child benefit for the first > child is ?20.30 a week, or just over ?1000 per > annum. duhhh yesh, sorry was calculating on a ?20 per month. Thank heavens I work on the policy side of finance and not numbers otherwise we would really be fked.....
  9. hmmm the BBC has announced that it understands tax concessions for married couples will be introduced in 2015. So amongst all the cutbacks where "were all in this together", there is still a bit of cash to incentivise marriage. The pledge in the manifesto was ?150 per annum which is just a little short of what child benefit is for the the first child. That should be a sweetener for those higher tax payers who will lose the child benefit. Clearly no concession to single parent families, for whom this change will impact most. It never ceases to amaze me that a party which is pretty laissez faire with the companies which nearly broke the economy but is so hands on with the way in which we should structure our lives. Better go and hunt myself down a husband...
  10. I think high earners as a concept would sit a lot easier with me if those people really were the genuine and remarkable talent in this country, but that isnt always the case. I have worked with many people who are where they are only through the advantages they were given through birth, not through talent and not even hard work. Many have no idea how privileged or 'lucky' they are. It is remarkably frustrating and disheartening to work with people who are earning 100k+ with the overwhelming sentiment that in a genuine meritocracy they simply would not be there. Financial reward aside, my concern is that geniunely bright, innovative people slip through the net because of birth, circumstance and lack of social mobility, and the higher paid profession continue to be rammed with very well educated but remarkably mediocre people. I know we can all identify 'working class done good', as it were, but it infuriates me it has to be such a battle for some people and not for others. I can live with the fact that not everyone is born with an equal measure of talent, that cannot be changed, what I cannot accept is that social circumstance, which can be changed, dictates who can use their talent.
  11. Not if you wear them with fishnets and FMBs - it could be a good look for you, you never know. 12. Ah thank you for this, I got a letter from them and put it to one side to recycle as it looked like junkmail, I will have look at this
  13. I bought some condoms from Sainsburys (you know just in case) and it has a sticker with "do not microwave" on it. It wasnt part of the plan but now I'm curious. If I had any techie ability I would upload a photo.
  14. He was wonderful in Some Like it Hot. I still love the scene where he feigns a lack of feeling to get Marilyn to kiss him, deceptive maybe, but oh so charming.
  15. not bad at all for sourdough. I attempted to create a sourdough starter, apparently once they get going you cant kill them, except through heat.... mine is looking remarkably dead.
  16. I rather like the fact you can wander round that shop and feed your face. Never actually bought anything in there though as it always seems insanely expensive (much more than their stores in the US and Canada (even allowing for exchange rates)
  17. I make my own spelt bread from scratch, think it works out about 30-40p a loaf. It has a fairly strong taste, more so when you make it with fresh yeast. It goes stale very quickly though - which highlights the amount of stuff in "longlife bread.
  18. Hmm generally I would always recommend swinging with prejudice, otherwise you may end up with the car keys to a rotund, bearded German in dirty lederhosen.
  19. I dont give a flying what my politician look like. Theresa May might wear some great shoes and interesting ensembles but she still suffers from Joycean streams of policy drivel and is ultimately making ugly decisions. I still have great hopes for Ed as I think he is both an ideologue and a moderniser. His campaign within the Labour Party was incredibly positive and personal. I get the sense he has a strong belief in where the party needs to go and I think it helps that he was not in Parliament when the decision to invade Iraq was taken. But the modern labour party is not without challenges - as expressed by Silver fox, who does it represent, the erosion of the traditional powerbase coupled with increasing apathy in the ranks does not help. Naive perhaps, but i would like to think that the modern labour party doesnt represent a particular class or group but a way of thinking.
  20. It was a nickname from a couple of people, as I like a bit of Burlesque and I am from Teesside
  21. oh to be a young militant again... sadly Im in my thirties and I work for a big bad bank (in the real world sadly). But I am a member of the Labour Party and I voted for Ed. For me Ed appears to have a genuine commitment to improving social equality. I think he will be a passionate opposition leader and hopefully an antidote to a government who seem hellbent on helping those people who probably dont need that much help.
  22. Quote - I bet the conversation dips to an embarressing, empty silence more than you'd like to admit. Axeman clearly wasnt in the Actress on friday when 6 forumites who eschewed their anonymity and also actually all like one another in real life, got together for a chat. The only moment of silence was the shock and awe reaction to the dance hall v wine soaked slattern dance off.

  24. :-$ drifts off muttering must practice my shimmy and keeping my mouth shut. Maybe I could offer 3 hours of house cleaning for those not enthralled with several stone of northerner clumsy gyrating to Tina Turner...
  25. Why thank you LegalBeagle. I was going to just say ohhh what a fcking knob, but you know I thought I should make the effort.... it is for a good cause.
