  1. You do also have to pay tax on the profit from the rental income, usually via self-assessment.
  2. Definitely aim for the top end .........
  3. I've had these guys cold-call/door-step us and whilst we gave them pretty short hrift, we reported them to the local police SNT. Whilst the young guy we had call on us wasn't overly agressive what I didn't like about was his complete lack of ID (wasn't able to give to any kind of ID - no business cards, headed paper or anything looking vaguely official). His ID card had very little on it - apart from his photo and name and a hi-vis jacket with ADT on it- which could have been printed anywhere. The dodgy bit was him trying to get into the house to take a look to assess our security measures ..........
  4. The next Hayes Farm boot sale is this coming weekend (Sunday) and they are fortnightly.
  5. Mine is a little older than yours and he has started 'hanging out' with him mates after school - doing what, I'm not to sure ....... but 7/7.30pm is when he's expected home (at the latest at the moment). Not to be just heading out.
  6. Peckham Rye - just next to the duck pond ..........
  7. Really - I always thought the half houses were built that way - didn't realise that they halved later.
  8. Wondered whether anyone had taken their kids to Alexandra Palace for a concert. Have taken mine to a couple of gigs at smaller venues, but no where as big as Alexandra Palace (I haven't been there for a concert either, come to think of it). Anyone have any experience on taking a smaller person along there? (Do they stand a chance of being able to see anything?)
  9. Same problem as above, nor can you answer 'none' to the questions. Have given up. Sorry
  10. > You could use a prop co to make your own website including floor plan and photos. It isn't dear, in fact my friends and I were amazed at what good value it was when we looked into it. I posted the name of the company in response to a thread by marmora man on a simir topic. You should also try a local paper or website in Bromley, surely?> For a one off exercise I wouldn't have thought a website would get enough exposure in its own right and I'm not aware of a EDF equivalent for Bromley (unless anyone knows of one?), certainly one thats as prolific anyway. Have thought that a private ad' in the Metro on property day, might be worth a go.
  11. On the basis that the house isn't in the area - as I understand it (I PM'd Admin). Thanks for the Southeast Central suggestion - thats one that I'd not come across before.
  12. Its not let at the moment and when it has been, have done it privately.
  13. I've seen the same ads', but emailed Admin and got turned down for mine, as not in area.
  14. Have a property that we bought as a buy to let investment that we are now looking to sell on (due to a change in circumstances) and want to at least try, in the first instance, to avoid using estate agents and incurring the associated fees. Gumtree has been brilliant in the past for finding prospective tenants, but has been less successful in trying to find prospective buyers (although we've had lots of approaches from estate agents via gumtree). Would welcome any suggestions people may have on other 'independent' avenues there may be or they have tried - bearing in mind the house isn't in Dulwich (but in Bromley), so the property section of this forum probably isn't appropriate. http://www.gumtree.com/p/flats-houses/newly-refurbished-house-for-sale--bromley-common/111036129
  15. >> hello all, it states on the website walk-ins can only bring 2 bags is this true ? as it says the same on the salter road one i normal take a few bags to take and dont have any problems, also hayessfarm is that one good? how much for walk ins? opening times for sellers and closing times also? >>> Most of the queries on Hayes Farm boot sale is covered on their website posted above. Not so sure about walk-ins and have only been as a customer, but there always seems to be plenty of business going on.
  16. I'd recommend the boots sale at Hayes Farm - the place seems to be heaving with both customers and sellers - its held every 2 weeks on a Sunday morning (last one on 12/8) ....... its 5 mins in the car beyond the Glades shopping centre in Bromley. http://www.hayesstfarm.co.uk/hayes-street-farm-boot-fairs.html
  17. Have found and used Hippobags recently as an alternative to a skip - which was a great success. They are smaller (in 3 different sizes), but also alot cheaper. You can still put what you like in them, within reason, and depending on the size you go for, it'll fit in the small front garden of a victorian terrace, making it less of a target for fly-tippers and because its comes folded up you can just keep it inside until you ready to fill it. (If you can get it in your front garden - there's no need for a LA licence)
  18. Used to be a regular visitor to Lillys and am a big fan ............... their pedicure is fab' and so thorough ... Have moved away and fhaven't ound anywhere that compares - they're a hard act to follow.
  19. Better still take a photo of it ...............
  20. We used Pink Elephant parking when we last flew from there - and can honestly say they managed to successfully add to the already high levels of stress, when flying with 2 young kids and plenty of luggage. This lot (although there seems to be 2 companies fighting over the 'Pink Elephant' name) operate from the car park of the Hilton hotel. The theory is that you drop your car off in an allocated pink elephant bay, someone close by takes your paperwork, then you quickly jump on one of their shuttle buses, right next door to the bays, and off you go to the airport. The reality is abit different - you arrive at the Hilton car park, shared by the Hilton, a gym and pink elephant - there are maybe 6 pink pays, you wait and see if any of the cars in bays look like moving, which they don't, circle the car park (with the clock ticking) to find any available space and then struggle from the furthest point of the car park with kids and bags to try and find someone to give your paperwork and keys to. With time running we approached the Hilton staff, who directed us to a broom cupboard at the back of the hotel, with a note on the door leaving a mobile number if the office is unattended. By this point our heart was sinking that we were about to leave our car with this very dodgy looking outfit - but we were between a rock and a hard place. No where else to go and still be able to make the flight. In the end we got our car back safely in one piece - but were hardly filled with confidence. Avoid ............. there have got to be better options out there .............
  21. There is a right of appeal ................... which may not cost, but submitting the estate agents valuations and any comparables they may have would be a good place to start.
  22. Was thinking that he may well end up spending more than half his time in France (if he stays away 3/4 nights a week) and we spend the holidays over there and also wondered whether the Swiss Franc element is some sort of 'benefit' that is passing us by.
  23. My partner and I are in the very early stages of grappling with the idea of him taking a post based in France (but paid in Swiss francs - God knows why) and trying to work out whether its workable for him to commute or whether we upsticks completely and move, kids, dog, 'lock, stock and barrell'. I wondered whether anyone had any experience of negotiating the Inland Revenue rules on 'double taxation', as being clobbered twice in tax terms would effectively rule out the commuting option straightaway. Does anyone have any insight into the fabulous Inland Revenue in practice in this kind of area.........
  24. Just wanted to thank everyone for their recommendations and advice for New York - which was really helpful. Can vouch for the Beekman Towers Hotel being family friendly. A small apartment with kitchenette was ideal for dealing with kids waking up at odd hours of the night and plenty spacious enough. It is true that the fixtures and fittings are abit dated, but its in the middle of a refurb' now - which seems to have started with the exterior and communal areas, but will soon be getting to the rooms. The only additional suggestion I'd make is to request a 'room' high up in the block to get away from the Road noise.
  25. Was ideally wanting even bigger ones.
