  1. Complete with gas canister and one bottle. £10
  2. Just my observation in Dulwich park, people staring at phones seem to pay only cursory attention to their dogs and are mostly oblivious to what they leave behind.
  3. Love Substack! It’s home to a wide range of writers/subject matters. I subscribe to a couple of writers that I rate (Ottolenghi has recently started a weekly column on there and local food writer Helen Graves is on it too.) With a paid subscription you get the full article/blog but there’s also plenty of content that’s essentially free. I regard it as my own personal ‘magazine’ of writers curated by me!
  4. Anyone redoing a kitchen and getting rid of old Faktum units?
  5. Found on Greendale. If this could be yours, message me with the name on the card on 07870353634.
  6. We once chose a decorator based on a long history of good reviews on here. It didn’t occur to us that he would ‘outsource’ the work to someone else who did a pretty poor job. Lesson learned. Always check that the person with the good reviews will be actually doing the work.
  7. A glowing review of Kokum by Grace Dent in today's Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/feb/16/kokum-london-dulwich-se22-grace-dent-restaurant-review
  8. Just what we need - another pizza place!
  9. The newly laid out wine aisle was a bit of a shambles when we went on Saturday. No South African section so the South African wines were lumped in with the South American. First world problem, I know 🤷‍♀️
  10. Over in Herne Hill, a new Gail’s is being fitted out next to The Commercial pub opposite the station.
  11. I’d love to support a new business but I will not stand in a long queue unless it’s moving briskly. They should have separate lines for people who want to simply buy bread and pastries to take out and those who want hot drinks etc.
  12. We looked into a similar “upgrade” of an existing loft conversion but probably smaller scale to yours. We wanted a small dormer adding. Quotes were around the £70k level. The fact that steels, stairs, plumbing etc, are already in place, count for nothing I’m afraid due to different building regs at the time of original conversion compared to now. All quotes were if starting from scratch.
  13. I used to love a rummage in there. Great shop, sadly missed.
  14. Six out of a collection of 72 which will remain on loan until repatriation at a later date.
  15. https://www.horniman.ac.uk/story/six-objects-to-return-to-nigeria-as-horniman-formally-transfers-ownership-of-benin-bronzes/ Fair play to the Horniman. Parthenon Marbles next?
  16. Billy and his brother are obviously extremely busy but has anyone managed to get a response from them recently? I’ve tried to book a boiler service via their website and left messages on their mobiles but no response. We have more work we’d like a quote for and based on the recommendations on here we’re happy to wait but what more do we have to do?
  17. I agree, this is nasty stuff and seems to have grown in popularity. Once halloween is over I don’t understand why people aren’t removing it along with their other decorations.
  18. Christopher’s bakery on Half Moon lane may have casual work opportunities. You could give them a try though they’re closed today and tomorrow because of the heat.
  19. BBC3 should have gone back to iPlayer too. Does anyone actually watch it?
  20. I was wondering about the Chinook yesterday too. Could it have been connected to the WW2 bombs discovered in a local garden yesterday? https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/unexploded-ww2-bombs-discovered-and-detonated-after-being-uncovered-by-denmark-hill-builders/
  21. I posted upthread after a similar experience to you. We paid the fine and appealed but was rejected on the grounds that we didn?t check that the payment had gone through (why would we? We?d received email confirmation). Emailed our local councillor (Richard Leeming) who agreed it was bonkers. Not sure if councillor Leeming was directly involved but we received a refund today. Common sense finally prevailed!
  22. We challenged a very similar similar fine which was rejected but we?ve now finally got a refund! Thank you to Councillor Leeming if you had a hand in this!
  23. Exactly the same thing happened to us. Applied for a permit renewal well before the old one had expired, mandated them to take the payment and received confirmation email. We didn?t think any more about it until we got a ticket! We?ve challenged the fine and emailed our local councillor.
