well there is nothing like putting words in someone's mouth now is there hugenot! you are making a whole lot of accusations there to me which I dont even want to begin to answer (except to say I support no terrorists) because you have gone off on one hell of a rant and its not worthy of an answer.

gosh azul what a stinking kettle of fish you opened there! lol I agree with you yellowhairedlady. Some of the comments especially at the beginning of this thread are contemptuous and I was shocked and am glad I don't personnally know some of you. I have plenty I would like to say but I won't other than that unless you have lived there before the last 15 years or so, then you have no idea of the reality of living in that weird and brutal world that was northern ireland during the troubles and there are many complex reasons why people became terrorists.
  5. nooooo the boots are baaaad my toes still hurt. Only for wearing indoors reclining me thinks. I will be there with bells on though. (hope that isnt just an northern ireland expression!) ok 26th it is just after pay day yeay! curry curry curry (doesnt take much to excite me now does it)

  9. Its probably been mentioned already but I went to see Ivanov last night and it is great. On at the wyndham theatre. Some of it was a bit too close to home especially the first half so was slightly uncomfortable viewing but the second half was not so much and there were more characters who I got into. Def worth seeing.

Everyone who is used to Azul's posts in the past (absent for a while) knows they are usually very tongue in cheek or just plain ridiculous.

This > proved, if proof were needed, that George Orwell > was right when he always claimed that the English > were essentially a decent people." I do agree that in Ireland we do need to get over our irrational hatred of the English people as a whole because you can't blame the people for what their government do and that over the centuries the English peasant definetly didn't have it too good either. Nowadays though, even in a democracy the English marched in force to oppose the invasion of Iraq and the government went ahead anyway, so Iraqi's hating the general English populace would be wrong, hate the government yes, but not the general guy on the street. But I have to disagree that there was no backlash to the "freedom fighters" in northern ireland. Try living there during the 70's 80's and part of the 90's and say that, and any free staters on here are just as clueless about what it was like. There was certainly a lot of backlash to the people in northern ireland in their day to day lives, like the humiliation of being searched at random in the street with no warrant or reason, internment with no trial of anyone they liked to lift and arrest, "searches" meaning wrecking of houses at random at 2am if you lived in a "bad" area and had a son, having an armed occupying force on your streets, (generally meaning a 19 year old lad in your garden with a machine gun) and so on and so on. I am not saying they were not entirely unjustified in their actions but their treatment of the Northern Irish only perpetuated the situtation by making their lives so crap that they saw only one option. As soon as they allowed people to have a more normal life then recruitment to terrorist organisations slowed down because people had a future that wasn't totally pointless. I, much to much of my family's unease, did date a soldier for a while (not whilst he was on duty in Ireland) so don't hold any rancour towards individual people but I definetly hold a little for the Government of the time ie Maggie et al.
  13. anyone going to the innocent village fete on saturday? the james taylor quartet are playing and they are worth heading up northside for any day. I have developed a superstitious belief that my wearing of my "cloud with raindrops" necklace is the reason for our lack of rain over the last 2 weeks, so in light of this I will be wearing it on saturday. You can all thank me later.

Travellers are a very much marginalised and misunderstood group of people and black people are still experiencing genuine inequality across the globe meaning it is like kicking a man when he is down if you are taking the piss or being racist and therefore a lot more meaningful and dangerous and unacceptable. The French are not the underdogs in any arena I feel. It may be a small difference when using sarcastic humour but an important one I feel.
  15. am a bit pissed so sorry for the bad grammer and spelling
  16. azul who started this thread is portuguese, not english. take from that what you will!. he has spend alot of time in france recently working with guys who wont speak any language to him other than french although they most likely can speak other languages and he can offer english, spanish and portuguese and they absolutely refuse to converse a word in any other language to him (even though he is not being the typical english speaking prat (like myself) who doesnt know any language other than their own, in which case they would be justified in their stance). I also think alot of the comments afterwards where tongue in cheek and not in any way meant in a harmful way but part of the banter of the forum. Although I can understand Kim why you would take offense, and if those comments had been made in a similar vein about the Irish I possible wouldn't have been too amused either so fair point but just wanted to point out that it was a portuguese guy being racist originally rather than an english one.
  17. I still love you, oh, I still love you ...Only slightly, only slightly less than I used to, my love I get what you are going through madword74. there are times when only the smiths/morrissey will do

  23. I read that election booklet that came through the letterbox, jaysus that was frightening, I still find it hard to believe that people think like that. BNP was first, seriously crazy, then that english party who had no policies just ranted on about the scottish! I was a bit raging that the BNP had some Irish supporters, those dimwits mustnt realise that 20 years ago BNP wouldve beaten up someone Irish as soon as anyone else not from here. They also had the cheek to slag off economic immigrants, well what are you then love? Any Irish here including myself are economic immigrants. Hyprocritical to the nth degree. (the field I work in in the NHS couldnt be offered if it weren't for economic immigrants I want to add before anyone tells me to bugger off home! heheh)
  24. supersystem and then them as shy child are also good electronica
