Not surprised at all... I recently changed my cycling route to avoid Barry Road as I was beginning to fear for my life; cars going up there at dangerous speeds and not giving me enough space. I must say I came close to being clipped a few times by cars. I now go up Friern Road which is much nicer...

I can't believe people actually buy things from door to door sellers. Why encourage them?

Moral of the story is to always check your receipts. You can't count on people to do their jobs properly... sometimes it's just down to incompetence and bad management, not fraud.

I never answer the door.

Good for all cyclists to read this thread and remind ourselves to be more careful. I commute by bicycle. It's always worth leaving ample time to get to work that way you are not rushing. I have stopped getting irate at the amount of motorists who do not use indicators before cutting me off at a junction / side street. Cycle defensively. Expect all motorists to break the rules and hopefully you will make it home in one piece. Danger aside, cycling still beats public transport... hands down.

Lilolil, I am surprised that bike has lasted there so long!!! :-S For starters, the tree you refer to is only an inch thick. It's a wonder someone hasn't taken a penknife to the tree before now to free the bike and take the whole thing home with them. Secondly, as far as I am concerned, if i left my bike outside over night, I would expect to find pieces missing from it in the morning, especially when the lock is only tied to the frame of the bike. They can easily remove the wheels, saddle, nuts, bolts... etc... It was with no surprise when i read that someone made off with it a few weeks ago. This is London. Anything left out on the street after the sun goes down is fair game... unfortunately that is the reality of living in London.

On a separate note, time and time again i complain but still... packages that don't fit in my mail box are being left outside my front door - in full view of the public! what's with that then?

To the person who owns the car: please turn off your car alarm! It's been going off since 5am... why do we all have to listen to it for an hour before it's finally switched off? I have lived on many streets in many parts of London and i have never come across as many car alarms as there are on Forest Hill Road. Why? From a tired Clinker...:(

As a cyclist, I must have found 4+ wallets on the road this year, I went to various lengths to try to find the owners, but never could so I handed them all into the Police Station... I think there are a lot more honest people in the world that we realise...!

Thanks for the warning, hope you're ok. I must say, I stick to well lit - wide open routes at all times, even if it means going the extra mile. I think a lot of cyclists have a false sense of security when they're on a bicycle... My rule of thumb is: Don't cycle where you wouldn't walk...

Our Postie leaves packages outside our front door, in full view of the public... I have complained time and time again but it still happens to us and I have seen our neighbours packages (for want of a different expression) out there too...

I don't see anything wrong with her not having a lock on her bike, the possibilities of this happening are endless. Maybe she was out at a friends and she borrowed their bike to get home, promising to cycle it back the next day... Maybe she had bought the bike that day and went round to a friends on the way home. Maybe she lost the bike lock that day. Maybe she left the bike lock at the friends by accident. My bike lock doesn't fit on my bike (bad design) and I have to carry it separately in my bag and it's easy to forget it.
