  1. He's just knocked on doors on Frogley Road. He's not picked a god time to sell window cleaning - when it's dark on Christmas holidays. I NEVER do anything at the door. If I need something I get it online.
  2. There's a lot of support here for a management that wanted to turn the pub into a 2am long weekend dancing club with zero respect for local residents.
  3. Ps - in case no-one has noticed, TGE now has lesser (more sensible) licensing conditions (front of pub now HAS to be cleared by 10:30pm, it was 11:30) than prior to the application, proving the locals residents are right in the basic need for sleep. Well done Southwalk Council for supporting residents need for sleep in a residential area.
  4. When opening, TGE told local residents that the license would remain the same, then when people were on holiday tried to sneak through an application that, had the locals not noticed (a sign in the window) and rallied over two days to get 50 signatures, would have gone through and then been difficult to reverse - SNEAKY If TGE wants to act like a smart business run by intellegent management it needs the support of the residents in the immediate vicinity. I don't want a free drink BTW, just a successful pub with locals able to sleep at night without disturbance.
  5. Has TGE arranged an evening to build bridges with the local residents yet ? It would be foolish not to. In getting the 50 objectors back on side it would create a much healthier atmosphere for all concerned and allow open communication between them should TGE want to discuss other license extensions rather than the sneaky approach that clearly didn't work.
  6. Congratulations to the residents nr TGE for this resounding victory, poor TGE can't have expected such a vigorous response and they may think twice about how to conduct themselves with their neighbours in future, we shall see. If any noise is heard outside of legal hours, then please report it. To TGE, why don't you hold a evening of peace and friendship and invite all the local residents, to build bridges and work WITH them rather than irritating them all as you have done since opening..
  7. ALL concerned need to be present on the 30th Aug, 10am - its VERY important for the health of local families. Venue: Ground Floor Meeting Room G02B - 160 Tooley Street, London SE1 2QH. Thanks
  8. ALL concerned need to be present on the 30th Aug, 10am - its VERY important for the health of local families. Venue: Ground Floor Meeting Room G02B - 160 Tooley Street, London SE1 2QH.
  9. The council hearing about the extension is on 30th August 10am Tooley Street - see you there
  10. for Balance, in Appendix C2 - there are 2 (TWO) letters/emails in support of the extension - the first saying it would give people somewhere to go after midnight to continue drinking - are they not aware of Kebab and Wine.... 50 objections 2 in support Democracy at its most obvious deems the answer to this conundrum Imagine the noise when all other local premises close, those drinkers congregate to TGE for dancing and drinking into the early hours...
  11. RE: Licensing Sub-Committee Southwark Council website - documents PDF'ed and attached Thursday 30 August 2012 10.00 am Has anyone on this thread (notably TGE) taken the time to read (APPENDIX C) the 50 (FIFTY) letters/emails OBJECTING the License extensions, while the ludicrous original application has been withdrawn - there's still an application for late hours, for drinking and dancing - how people are going to quietly dance until late into the morning hours when local children need to sleep is literally impossible. The owners of TGE have totally alienated themselves from 50 local neighbouring families - well done chaps. ALL concerned need to be present on the 30th Aug, 10am - its VERY important for the health of local families. Venue: Ground Floor Meeting Room G02B - 160 Tooley Street, London SE1 2QH.
  12. TGE should be soundproofed. The outside drinking area open until 21:30 EVERY NIGHT should NOT be allowed to proceed.
  13. Sarcastic comments are rather unkind when families and the elderly are suffering from severe sleep deprivation due to noise pollution - and those producing the noise are carefree and now wishing to extend that noise over additional hours in an outside space. TGE should be soundproofed. The outside drinking area open until 21:30 EVERY NIGHT should NOT be allowed to proceed.
  14. The new application for an outside drinking "area" should not be allowed to proceed - the neighbours (50 signed a petition) CANNOT SLEEP - so ANY additional application is ludicrous. TGE should be soundproofed. The outside drinking area open until 21:30 EVERY NIGHT should NOT be allowed to proceed.
  15. Jeremy - I assume you are not being adversely affected by the current noise pollution, if my assumption is correct, your comments are falling on deaf ears - unlike the neighbours of TGE who have fully operational ears and can't sleep due to the current noise. TGE should be soundproofed.
  16. Jeremy, you appear to have commented 6844 times on this forum, I wonder which of us is Actually doing the ranting... TGE should be soundproofed.
  17. Nonsense, the pub IS a welcome addition to ED, but like The Actress (which is located in a less residential area) it needs to be more mindful and considerate of its neighbours who cannot sleep under existing licensing terms... Locals being tricked by a strategy designed by a specialist alcohol licensing firm to add an outdoor drinking den to the existing license is unlikely to happen in this area, as they are wise to the plan. I'm sure locals will continue to fight until they can sleep at night. Not an unreasonable request.
  18. Innbrighton Ltd the Parent of Zelgrain Ltd - according to June 2011 posted accounts made a Gross Profit of ?14,681,807 ?14.5 MILLION pounds sterling (source www.duedil.com - information taken from Companies House) Perhaps they can use some of the Net profit to SOUND PROOF The Great Exhibition and resolve the EXISTING noise pollution.
  19. One more thing to add - TGE or Zelgrain Ltd (a company - NOT a friendly local businessman/landlord) have hired GT Licensing Consultants - Professional Service for all your Alcohol & other Licensing Needs! (cut and paste from their website) As the strapline suggest "for all your Alcohol and Licensing needs" Why a would a Company need hire a Professional Alcohol specialist ? to do whatever is possible to sell more Booze perhaps...
  20. Regarding - addition of the rear yard to the licensed plan which was advised by the licensing authority. offer a terminal hour for this area of 21:30 Sunday to Thursday and 22:30 Friday to Saturday. Please consider whether ANYONE would be content with an outdoor drinking den next door to their house, open until at least 21:30 EVERY NIGHT. Is is likely that those drinking in that location will keep noise levels to a minimum ? The letter states that TGE is NOT Blase about the wishes of their neighbours - This additional application is clearly blase, as the neighbours CANNOT SLEEP with EXISTING NOISE LEVELS.... let alone ADDING to the noise.
  21. Regarding the recent statement "Amendment of Application" The application to extend the hours was NOT made to satisfy the wishes of local community, this is clear by the 50 signatures of local residents who signed a petition expressing concerns about the EXISTING noise levels, but a strategic plan to increase the noise levels by application of an outside drinking area - how an outside drinking area is going to reduce CURRENT noise levels is beyond me. I strongly advise those affected by the noise, make moves towards ensuring the local community can SLEEP when they need by pushing for the rules that apply to our other local favorite The Actress, who have the sense to work more closely with the immediate neighbors rather than antagonise them by not only keeping up the existing noise but also adding an outside drinking area. If TGE really cared about the wishes of local residents then it would ensure they can sleep at night - a rather basic function/requirement when living in a residential area, which they did BEFORE TGE created the ludicrously loud noises coming out of their (recently requested) late night, outdoor drinking den.. We - the local residents - want a flourishing business in ED but not one that keeps locals awake at night above and beyond what is reasonable. PLEASE push for the EXISTING LICENSE to be REVIEWED and measures taken to REDUCE the CURRENT awful noise levels... and not be lured in by what they deem a compromise in keeping existing noise and INCREASING it with outdoor drinking.
  22. AGAINST - The Great Exhibition's application for an extended licence. My friend lives very close to this pub and since its been refurbished the noise levels have been awful, extending the license into the early hours is going to leave local residents with worsening conditions to live peacefully and raise children when neither child nor parents can sleep. Disorder will increase with customers drinking and drinking into the early hours, then making loud noises (typically shouting) when leaving. I find it really poor that any such consideration to allow the inevitable additional noise after 11pm be allowed in a residential area with surrounding houses containing families needing sleep.
