Yeah, back-to-back Fall all evening at The Ivy House tonight!

The Ivy House may be having a Mark E Smith/Fall night next week if an evening can be found. Not enough time to sort for this evening, but I have compiled a Fall playlist for them to play in the back (main) room tonight - will post again very soon to hopefully confirm it'll be on!

Many thanks for the supportive posts - it really is much appreciated! The hours applied for regarding supply of alcohol are 11.00 to 11.00 (Monday to Thursday), 11 to midnight (Friday), 11 to 1am (Saturday) and 11 to 10.30 (Sunday). The most recent soundproofing problems with the Ivy House were in 2010 when the then management did not apparently manage the issue of people being in the outside areas front and back very well late at night and on some occasions into the early hours. They had reinforced the soundproofing, but this effort was negated by not keeping an eye on other sound sources. The most recent licensees, as honeybee79 stated, had no complaints from local residents re noise. This was due in part to the recent soundproofing, but also to the excellent late hours management of outside drinking/smoking that Nick and his team put in place. Incidentally the current soundproofing, recently removed to enable asbestos removal work at the back of the stage, is to be re-installed double-fold. Extra soundproofing options for the roof are also being explored. The 1am Saturday license would not necessarily be invoked every Saturday, only when an event warrants it.

The local residential population DO go there (when it was last open obviously) - that is why there was a huge outcry when the pub closed down. Granted in the past it had a reputation as somewhere many locals didn't go to - I spoke to one bloke who lived around the corner for 25 years and the only time he went inside the place was at Stuart Road's Silver Jubilee street party when he was 5. It rained and he went in the pub. The other memory he had was an armed siege in the 90s. But that has changed. Nearly 300 people, many in this apparently "sparsely populated" area have invested in the pub, because they believe in its resurrection as a centre of a vibrant local community (and a fabulous venue for those further afield). Some of those people remember the place from the 40s, 50s and 60s and are thrilled to see what is happening. In reference to the point about there being other community spaces in spitting distance, by way of an example of what's going on, a couple of long-standing residents have told me of their disappointment that they are no longer able to meet where they used to (am not sure which community space this is) and are looking forward to the prospect of reminiscence groups at the pub. And that will be one of many things going on during the day - mark my words! (please) I promised myself not to fire off a response here and will probably regret it, but I never get the location thing. I never moan about the Gowlett being in the wrong place, yet will happily walk to there and plenty of other places in East Dulwich/Peckham (I live near the Ivy House you may have guessed!). To say the pub has problems with its geographical location is to ignore the many people that live around here. It also rather implies that the world stops at Peckham Rye Common. And relax.

My son is year 7 at Harris Boys East Dulwich. They are not allowed mobile phones as long as they are in school uniform, ie not just when at the school, but also travelling to and from the school. As a result, apparently, it is "known" that Harris Boys do not carry mobile phones and are subsequently not a target. Although I was a little edgy at first, my son being uncontactable on his school commute hasn't been an issue.
