Lol, I can't remember where the cleaner put it, so I must be upper class!

The ED caller got some flak! Liked the definition of middle class being someone who wears matching bra and knickers!

OMG. They'd have to shop in .... Peckham!!! I hope the snotty Bestards who are keen on socio-economic cleansing all become jobless or bankrupt and have to sell up and move to Croydon.

It was on Sunday - BBC4 at 9pm. I think there are one or two more episodes to go.

Take no notice of the naysayers, Waynetta, I like your top tips. Always manage to crack a smile on my face :-)

I thought he was hiding Waynetta cos of the blow up doll thingy. -
Yeh I loved it when he said the the rent collector's henchman, "Gizza job. I can do that. Carry stuff. I can carry stuff. Go on, gizza job." Or the guy groundsman, "I can walk in straight lines, I can do that. Gizza job". Hard as an adult watching him cracking up though. I didn't understand it properly when I saw it first time it came out.

Fess up then Woofy! I missed it.

I think snobs like Jason don't belong in ED and should bugger off to Chelsea - woops, they can't afford it, oh well, can we send them to Clapham then? What? They can't afford that either? Not much good at this snobbery thing are they?

Good timing by the BBC with the impending cuts by the ConDems. There may be some deja vu coming up.

It took 20 years living in London for me to stop thinking that Birkenhead was the grimest place on earth. I go back now and it seems green and pleasant, but this film has brought back some of the awful memories of living there in the 1980's.

Is anyone watching this? I haven't seen it again since it came out. I lived on Merseyside at the time and the deprivation and lack of support for people facing hard times pictured in the film was normal then. Seeing it again nearly 30 years later it's pretty shocking and more moving than I remembered.

I've been thinking of doing this for ages as I have a chimney and fireplace, but not sure how to go about it. Does anyone have any recommendations of who to get to checl the chimney and install the wood burning stove?

So that gives him the right to crusade against all dogs does it? I had an attempted rape when I was 14, so would it be normal or useful for me to campaign for all men to be castrated because of what the two guys tried to do to me? Of course not. Being a victim of a crime does not give him the right to be obnoxious and offensive to hundreds of innocent people and their dogs.

I think someone sleeping in a doorway at 8pm is unlikely to be just trying to con some money out of people. Sounds like he'd settled down to sleep cos he had nowhere better to sleep.

There was a police car blocking off traffic by the junction of Forest Hill rail station to Stanstead Road about 4:15pm - no idea why though.

I get stuff for myself or my large, mostly broke family for free or low cost on here and Freecycle quite often and when I do have something to get rid of myself, I wouldn't dream of asking for money for it, unless it was something worth a lot, like a car or something or I was really skint. I think it's a really good way of recycling and goes some way to decreasing our ecological footprint. Knowing that someone was trying to sell my donations wouldn't stop me wanting to give and I think it's an issue for their own conscience. Maybe they have no other way of making a living at the moment and as someone said above, at least the item hasn't ended up in landfill. But if thier possibly selfish actions affected other people's willingness to participate, I think that would be a real shame.

I think the transition from a child in need of a seat and one big enough to give up their seat was quite a smooth one for my kids. I hadn't really thought of it, but I think that by the time they got to 10 or 11, I would expect them to know they should stand if someone more needy didn't have a seat. I think that because it's something I do, they didn't need it explaining to them when they got big enough to be less needy.

"More than what I earn", I imagine!

I think, letting Hugo off the hook, paying someone ?20 odd quid a week for pushing out a sprog no matter what they earn may be a bit random and not much use really. People seem to be very attached to child benefit, but it's not really enough to make much of a difference because the amount is so low. Not sure I'm brave enough to say that it might be a good idea to raise it a lot and means test it! But then it would stigmatise it, so maybe not.

Hugo - he never worked much and was always self-employed when he did, so was able to say he only earned a pittance and there was nothing much the CSA could do. I couldn't work due to health and mental breakdown, but as soon as I was able I got my sh!t back together and got on with it. I could have claimed disability benefits, but I had no intention of staying on benefits, so didn't bother. All of those who want to cut back the safety nets of state benefits, better make sure they have their own cast-iron private safety nets, because many of us are only a few paycheques away from homelessness and destitution.

I was trying to say that I did support my own kids and am happy doing so. I highlighted ways in which I have managed to make a relatively small amount of money go a long way when I mentioned Freecycle and charity shops. I am happy with the really good quality things I can get free/cheaply in this way and do not think I would waste money on buying new stuff now even if my income was much higher. I had to rely on benefits for a short time when I was newly divorced, but that was not for long so no-one else has had to pay much for my children, thank you Hugo. I was also trying to say that this small amount of money paid in benefits, in my view was an investment by society, as I was able to continue to look after my kids without ending up homeless or starving and they have managed to keep on track as a result. Now, partly as a result of society's investment in my children, but mostly as a result of my investment in time and energy, my children have grown up into useful, hardworking adults, which in turn means if all of your investments go belly up and you end up pennyless, , Hugo my hardworking children's taxes will hopefully ensure you don't end up homeless or starving. I did not choose to have 4 children, but contraception is not always reliable and I think 2 abortions was enough, frankly. Now that contraception is more reliable, eg the injection or implants, I think there may be less women who have accidental pregnancies, but that was not the case when I was young. I also did not expect to be in a position where I had to look after 4 children on my own, as none of us get married thinking that we will end up getting divorced, so no amount of draconian capping of benefits could have prevented my position, but as I said above, the investment by society in my children will be paid back 10 fold.
