  1. Sounds like a good idea to me. The ED Warehouse just isn't very good and seems to have moved away from the sort of idea you describe. Whether that's because of lack of decent product or lack of customers I don't know but a good mixture of food and crafts/gifts of the non-tacky variety would be welcome.
  2. This poor guy is now going to be unable to have a peaceful morning swim as half of the posters on this board will suddenly be feeling aquatically inclined in order to see what they're missing.
  3. wilful forum drivel sends sane doolally?
  4. I suggest we give Silverfox some dummy smartphones and force him to wander the streets of East Dulwich as a decoy for the muggers. This will leave all the innocent mortgage holders and even that lesser species which still rents to go about their business unhindered.
  5. Virgin is much better in that you don't need a satellite dish, you can watch one thing and record up to two other things at once (with Sky you can only record one other thing.) Also, it means you're not lining Murdoch's pockets further. I'd have loved Sky Atlantic but all those shows will be on terrestrial at some point anyway and lots of it is repeats of old shows.
  6. Well the posts that have been quoted are among the more idiotic comments here. It's amazing how insensitive and ignorant many of the comments in this thread are - it reminds me of that unpleasant Madeleine McCann thread which has thankfully gone now.

You are right Annette! I have recently discovered that Branston are superior to Heinz. Who'd have thought it? I also enjoy pretty much exactly that recipe. Are you me?
  8. This thread is starting to remind me of that utterly tasteless one about Madeleine McCann. None of this speculation is helping anyone.
  9. Walked past it this morning. WHat an ugly building. I expect those that can afford to live there won't really care about that as long as the taps are solid (and very yellow) gold.
  10. I agree with Keef's post above - they could do with spending a bit more energy on improving the quality of the Saturday market before thinking about opening on Sunday. Some of the food stalls a re pretty good but it doesn't seem to be attracting people selling anything else very interesting or unique.
  11. I don't mind this happening (on a side street, not on Lordship Lane), as long as absolutely NO public funds are used including those associated with traffic diversion, policing, street cleaning etc. If people want something like this, fine, but they should pay for it, maybe by ticketed entry.
  12. Narnia & Twirly - that's a nice way to welcome someone whose first language isn't English but is making an effort to engage with others on the forum. A quick look at VALFR59's previous posts will tell you all you need to know. Tut, tut.
  13. I think you both need to breathe and relax (or take an aspirin.)
  14. I detect a hint of sour grapes and a soupcon of jealousy in this thread.I suspect quite a few of the anti-Beckhams here would trade places with him in a nanosecond (apart, perhaps, from being married to Skeletor.)

If she's doing something contemporary and has to dress a character who is a bit of a bitch, she usually takes the actress in question to Karen Millen!
  16. Apparently street muggings rose by 8% last year but phone muggings by 22%. Smartphones are clearly attractive to these b******s. I've been mugged for my phone twice on the last few years (neither time locally), so if I have to use my phone when walking now, I only do it in well lit areas, where other people are around and keeping an eye out for who might be near. It's worth pointing out though that both times I was mugged was while walking and texting (wexting?)

Thank you - that is my point. The people from the station end don't really need to go to the Plough end as they have DKH Sainsbury's, Co-Op, Iceland and all the independent shops. And I describe that as "the other end" because anything further towards Forest Hill is mainly served by Forest Hill. A Waitrose/M&S would have a different impact in either place, as they are, in effect separate places.

  19. You should get someone to move it somewhere safer for you in a side road. To be honest, it's probably someone fed up with it being parked on the pavement.

And it was a fair comment, considering it's well over a mile away from the station. It isn't a jusgement, just a question re where such a proposed "posh shop" would be placed.

    classy hotel

I can really recommend the Church Street Hotel. My brother and half of family stayed there over Christmas as we only had a certain amount of room at the inn. It was very clean, friendly and well run and the family said the breakfasts were among the best they'd had in a hotel - lots of varied organic produce. Definitely worth trying and has the added bonus of Angels & Gypsies underneath, the best tapas around! Re new posters - don't be frightened - some here seem to think the forum is theirs, when in fact it belongs to the nice people that run the site!

  23. But does that far down Lordship Lane even really qualify as East Dulwich? It would be interesting to know where such a proposed supermarket would be as there's a big difference between the main bit of Lordship Lane and The Plough end. > There's no room at either end I wouldn't imagine.
