  2. Dear Phyllis - what would we have done without her..
  3. "Daft thing is, that little office is marked as "customers with fares to pay". When you get there its a fine." I've been luckier, presenting myself at that booth and been allowed to pay. But it was a while ago - maybe 2 years. Things may have changed. I was using an Oyster pay as you go at the time while waiting for an annual pass renewal through work. No ticket barrier at Peckham at the time and I simply didn't remember it wasn't a valid ticket until I tried getting through the barriers at LB. I've also made the mistake of travelling to Croydon twice on a Zone 1-2 annual pass, forgetting Croydon is further out. Both times I was allowed to pay the other end. Good luck, Fergie. I don't envy you your situation. If there were any way to pay a fine while avoiding an actual prosecution, I'd go for it.
  4. "Why not say you don't have money either and close the door on her face, just like that!" Because some people's first instinct is to empathise which causes them to give people the benefit of the doubt, unfortunately in the case of this scamster.
  5. "Really! I've never noticed. East Dulwich is probably littered with blue plaques I haven't noticed!" Boris Karloff, Forest Hill Rd?
  6. Michael he whistles the simplest of tunes And asks the wild woods their pardon For his true love is flown into every flower grown And he must be keeper of the garden Written by Richard Thompson (I think), sung by Sandy Denny

  8. In your dreams, Woof ;-) Plenty of stuff on the Coop ethical policy here: http://www.co-operative.coop/food/ethics/
  9. "I get a nice walk, a seat and get to read a book uninterrupted for 45mins - bliss." Exactly :-)
  10. Hi KirstyH, you don't live next to me do you - only joking. There's two trees just coming into blossom - one pink, one white - opposite me. I just noticed them this morning. Last year, there was some kind of dawn bird watch event at One Tree Hill, between Brenchley Gdns and Crofton Park - no idea if it's an annual event but could be worth keeping an eye out for. My dunnock has been singing its heart out the last few days - tune!
  11. Fair do's. Though I think it hardly less an issue with the train. My reason for opting for a slightly longer journey is that I get home less tired - and I can avoid the hassle of London Bridge Station.
  12. Just to think, once was an M&S in Peckham. So near, yet so far..
  13. Asset - I'm genuinely curious to know why you think the train is more hygienic than the bus? I work by the Tate Modern and used to take the bus/train/walk. Now, I find it more relaxing to take the 63/343 - the journey time's a bit longer but it gives me time for a good read and I'm more chilled by the time I get off. It's also cheaper.
  14. oooh, frogspawn - brings back happy childhood memories. I want a frog pond.
  15. Waking up, after a sound night's sleep, feeling utterly relaxed and rested - oh yes..

  17. Yeh - I agree about phoning the garage. Whenever I've found anything on the bus, I've handed it to the driver.
