  1. Check your building insurance, it may include cover for drains. Otherwise, the businesses / trades forum might be your best bet for recommendations for a drain repair company, they tend to do cctv type surveys too. Small consolation I know but thank the lord it's not bubbling up every time you flush the toilet.
  2. Southwark regs for construction works: Monday to Friday - 8am to 6pm Saturday - 8am to 1pm Sundays and Bank Holidays - No Working Needs a special license outside these hours. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/412/noise_problems/379/construction_noise
  3. I've used Spin Doctor Steve. Very good. Plenty of recommendations in the relevant forum.
  4. Being a relatively considerate person, I wouldn't dream of going out and calling my cat in so late as a matter of course. The exception being when people start letting off fireworks late.
  5. Loud music at 8am on any day is pretty ignorant imo.
  6. I was living in Brixton when Picturehouse took over the Ritzy, prices seemed to rocket over the years. Membership included free previews at around midday on Sundays every six weeks or so but no idea whether this is still a thing or not. Certainly reduced price membership for residents had died a death by the time I moved over here. Last time I went to the Ritzy was a couple of years ago - pretty sure it was around ?12 a ticket, I wasn't the one buying so it may well have included a booking fee. I just remember feeling a bit gutted on my friend's behalf to have paid so much for Warhorse. I second the hope that by the time this one opens, the Ritzy workers will have won their campaign for a living wage and it extends to the staff across all the Picturehouses.
  7. Good luck with Arnold. He does a good face-to-face apology which ultimately left me feeling fobbed off as he didn't bother responding to follow up emails/voicemails over a different matter.
  8. A continuous high pitched whining is hardly going to be a bike thief, unless they're on a roll.
  9. Underpinned twice and still signs of subsidence, I wouldn't touch it.
  10. f.y.il Japanese Knotweed has a growth pattern reminiscent of bamboo. It dies back completely in Winter, emerging in Spring as fast growing green/purplish canes. It can grow metres tall and has heartish shaped leaves with sprays of tiny white flowers. If you happen to be passing by of the council block on the corner of Nunhead Lane and the Rye, there's a stand of it growing amongst the shrubs on the corner.
  11. What a shame you were misinformed about the type of bags. You can get the big brown paper bags free from the office based at Peckham Library. No need to show ID. Great service when you've got a lot of garden waste to dispose of.
  12. If you do put something down, place it well clear of any cover cats may use to pounce from. I use a large textured plastic plant pot saucer & change the water every day to reduce the risk of transmitting disease but also because the fox likes to crap in it from time to time.. RSPB advice http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/helpingbirds/water/birdbaths.aspx It's a delight to see birds bathing :-)
  13. My partner rented a flat in Norman Court up until 12 years ago. It was at one point the most complained about privately owned block of flats in Southwark according to a council surveyor who came round at his request to check out the horrible damp/mould problem in his flat. It turned out the roof had been fitted incorrectly and didn't drain so there was water up there the whole year round. There is - or was - a spring under one side of the building. According to the guys who were attempting to divert it, the whole building was on the slide. This may all have been rectified but I'd be asking some serious questions if I were you prior to buying there.
  14. After a sudden heavy shower a week or so ago, I noticed the flowering shrub laden with bumble bees I'd admired on my way out was still laden on my way back, only the bees were now sodden and comatose. I managed to get about 20 indoors where they were revived with lashings of honey and released in fine fettle. I used tissue paper at the bottom of the collection pot to wick the water away. Short and shaky footage here:
  15. I have a feeling that the excellent Le Querce on Brockley Rise, not far from ED, does gluten-free options. Though I'd call first to check if I were you: http://lequerce.co.uk/about-us/
  16. It would be exactly 12ft long. To be precise..
  17. True, KK, but the damaged eye doesn't look like old age.
  18. If I recall correctly, it comes at the cost of a reduction in the frequency of the 343 on the Peckham to New Cross Gate section even though the congestion downstairs - people with shopping/buggies - often doesn't really ease off until the Nigel & Surrey Road stops.
  19. Ouch. Might be worth gargling with warm salt water after eating til it's healed as that's the advice you'd get following a dental extraction.
  20. Hopefully it won't be making a comeback in these parts ;-) Having just spoken to the licensing dept, it seems they were only permitted to be there til 4.30pm on condition the volume was no louder than that from a laptop. Seems they interpreted the terms a little wildly and the location manager is in for another earful for being in breach of their license.
  21. I should think bagging the recycling just makes more work the other end, which is why I don't do it.
  22. Lol, the way I feel about it, their shoot could shortly feature a demented person shouting abuse.
  23. Ah it's a band shooting a music video up on One Tree Hill. Licensed to play the same tune over and over til 9pm. WTF.
  24. Yeh, if only... Then again, even it were the fabulous Ella being belted out, it would lose its lustre after the umpteenth repetition.
  25. It's really loud and sounds like it's coming from a PA, chorus sounds like 'something's got a hold of me'. It's got a hold of me alright :-(
