"On another ocassion a man reported seeing and hearing the sound of a group if young children giggling in one of the wooded areas of the cemetary and found no trace of anyone (this is in the wee hours of the morning btw)." "As teenagers on a couple of occassions some friends and I spent the night in Nunhead cemetary getting smashed on cheap booze, various pills and smoking spliff and whatnot" Sense :-)

I say southwark - fortnightly bin collections
The Minkey replied to Terry Thomas esq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"How many people on this forum are likely to fill more than two of these compostable bags a week with peelings and srapings off plates? Are the dustmen really going to wheel brown bins to a truck to empty two bags, especially during the pilot scheme when there's likely to be no garden cuttings in the bin." No, they'll pull the bags out and carry them over to the lorry pretty much like they do with the contents of my green bin at the moment which rarely has more than one 1/2 full bag in it at a time. -

I think it's a great idea - I never fill my green bin either, there's usually about 1/4 of a black bin bag's worth. On the other hand, my neighbour, who has two green bins which are frequently full because she doesn't recycle anything, will struggle with fortnightly collections. -
Has posting on this forum hindered your employment prospects?

No - but I only tend to browse t'net at lunch time. -
Not much bird life at the moment, I suspect they are out and about making the most of what Autumn is bringing their way up on One Tree Hill and down in the park. Soon come time to set about making fat cakes - very cheap to diy.

Party noise Friday night/Sunday morning
The Minkey replied to lemonellen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"Probably people who are too stressed from not enough joy and too much regime in life can't sleep without silent conditions." Speaking as someone who has been ill for the past two years, occasionally completely housebound, I dread loud noise because my nervous system just can't handle it anymore - it tips me into flight or fight which is unfortunate as my body simply can't handle the physical stress of the adrenaline etc and it makes me quite ill. I have worn ear plugs every night since becoming unwell not because I'm lacking in joy and suffer too much regime, though being housebound does have its limitations, but because my nervous system is on overdrive - I do apologise for being so inconsiderate. -
I tried to use Tesco for my first online grocery order - it was a really frustrating experience and I ended up with no delivery at all. Customer Services never bothered to reply to my subsequent complaint despite the fact I chased it 4/5 times. I gave up and decided never to use them again. I've used Sainsbury's a few times. They do one hour slots and when they were late once, by 15 mins or so, the driver gave me a ?10 voucher which was a nice touch. As for substitute items, it's a default setting. Just uncheck the box, you only have to do it once and it will apply to all your orders from then on.

Cute maybe but I don't much fancy the idea of human turds dotted around the place. I knew someone who didn't believe in nappies for her child. As a consequence, she was often cleaning poo off the soft furnishings - I avoided extending an invite until the potty training was sorted - eew.

This site is a broadband speedchecker http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ to see what speeds you are actually getting.

I was at an airport once, with a friend seeing her family off somewhere. While we were sitting in the caff, the mum changed the babies nappy and left the rolled up one on the table. I was pretty young at the time and too gobsmacked to say anything, but that was indeed a disgusting example of littering. Back to the present, whatever happened to the concept of public loos? Is there one in ED?

I switched from BT Business Broadband to Virgin a few months ago. I have the unlimited calls and unlimited download package, no TV. I've been impressed by its reliability - I used to have to keep rebooting the BT router - and I've not noticed any issues with the speed. I'm on the New Cross exchange which may make a difference. If I remember to do it this evening, I'll take a look to see what speeds I'm actually getting.

looking for good GP in east dulwich
The Minkey replied to kindaha's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There's another DMC in Chadwick Road - I wouldn't particularly recommend them. -
Or you could come at it from the other direction e.g. London Bridge to New Cross Gate, take the 343 from Jerningham Road opposite the station to Ivydale Road and either walk from there or hang around for the P12. I'd buy a foldable bicycle if it were a regular thing to cycle the last bit. OR Jubilee Line to Canada Water then the East London Line to New Cross Gate etc.

That kind of noise nuisance on a regular basis would piss me right off too.

You have my sympathies, my next door neighbours' kids go through phases of running round, banging doors and yelling at the tops of their voices from 9pm to past 1am. The younger kids are 2, 3 and 9 years old. It's a household where the kids are allowed to stay up for as long as the adults. If there are visitors, there are often several more kids running round. It took a fair bit of getting used to as it was so lovely and quiet here before. Yes, I'd agree - try and get back on a better footing with your neighbours just because it makes life easier. They sound a bit like my neighbours if they are happy for the kid to be up so late. You may not be able to change this - I wear earplugs every night to be able to sleep undisturbed. Wax plugs are best and very effective. It's small consolation now, but the child will probably fall into a more regular sleep routine as it gets older.

You might have just had bad luck getting through. They were certainly still in operation last Wednesday when I had to use them.

Is it my imagination, or have the birds bred later this year? They seem to have had an extra brood. Or maybe I wasn't very observant last year..

Is the 484 the worst bus service in London ?

Is the 484 the worst bus service in London ?
The Minkey replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
While still living 2 mins from the Tube in Brixton, I pondered long and hard before moving to an area where I would be forced to rely on buses because of the potential for erratic services. For the past 3 years, my local buses have been the 484 and the 343 and on the whole I've been pleasantly surprised, not least by the fact that 90% of the time drivers will wait for you to complete the sprint to the bus stop - a complete revelation after years of buses in Brixton whose drivers appeared to take a perverse pleasure in shutting the doors in your face. Occasionally, there are unusually long waits but these are in the minority. Granted, I've suffered longer mystery waits for the 484 but these are the exception to the rule, in my experience. And yes, it does get crazy packed at times but I've always thought this to be the result of traffic congestion further back on the route because there's usually one not far behind who's made good timing because they've had no passengers to pick up, so it's worth letting the packed one go by if time is not the issue. I know this because while I'm prepared to resign myself to being a sardine, my OH isn't so if we're travelling together, we end up waiting for the empty one. -
Accurate or not, it would still come back for such easy dinner. My only hope is it gets so fat, it becomes easy prey for the terrorista cat before it shares its discovery with the rest of its flock. On a brighter note I want to say, 'Wow, I've just seen a nuthatch on the hanging feeder!!', which goes a long way to compensating for an otherwise temporary dearth of other birds, apart from the feral pig of course.

I propose going straight to the root of the problem by getting rid of the tossers who feed the rats by dropping their food litter all over the place - problem sorted ;-)
