  1. Seemingly random displays of rage can be a sign of mental illness.
  2. There's going to be a royal wedding?

  5. It's not strictly speaking used in the manufacture of heroin, it's used to prepare heroin for injecting. Injecting the equivalent of lemon juice would surely hurt? Or perhaps it neutralises when cooked up with the heroin. Hmmm - one of life's mysteries I'm happy to leave in its box.
  6. I'd never seen a picture of a hazel dormouse until this morning. They look remarkably like a hamster with a tail. The french one I saw was just like this one: [pre]http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTuJ__Ll6l9acVr1kAuSfMmsdCSjAGhREl9mf9uSn-DN8kSWnqV[/pre]
  7. Ooh, I think someone who is able to voice criticism, where criticism is due, is likely a happier person than the person who sits stewing in disgruntlement.
  8. Best pick them as far from a busy road as possible.
  9. John K - I don't know about records of dormice, but my OH saw what he swore was a dormouse peeking out of a collapsed laburnum in a garden somewhere in Forest Hill several years ago. Pure anecdote, no evidence, I'm afraid. I wish I'd been there to see it as had the pleasure of rescuing one which had tumbled out of part of a barn wall which was being demolished many years ago in France. I handled it as briefly as possible as it was shaking with fright so I just put it in a safe dark place, and when I went to check on it after half an hour or so, it had gone. Hopefully, not into the belly of the resident whip snake.

  12. Noticed this yesterday - hip hop hoorah. Though I think it could have been reopened with a little more fanfare: A mini-carnival with dancing clowns would have done nicely. *Tarmac ramps still in situ*
  13. What works exactly have they been doing along Rye Lane? I thought the Thames Water replacement happened last year and it was removal of tram lines plus resurfacing that was taking place this year. Then again, Borough High St appears to be again subject to Thames Water roadworks, southbound buses on diversion via Southwark St. Has it even been 12 months since it was last reopened for business?
  14. "PRP this morning, the area by the Japanese garden had lots of trees with branches that had clearly been snapped off- large branches. Can only assume its people as cannot think of any wild animal having the strength. What is wrong with them?" Some anti-socials use lowish branches as a jaw strengthening exercise for their bull terriers. Could this be partly the problem?
  15. Ikea over Howdens any day. I had a white gloss Howdens kitchen installed in my current place @ 3 years ago. It was at the recommendation of the fitter but I regretted the choice from the delivery issues onwards. It's just not well thought out design. Simple things like the laminate shelf and carcass edges chip really easily because they don't have that neat little bevel Ikea uses, plus with Ikea you have far more choice with regard to positioning the height of the shelves. All the doors on my integrated appliances have tried to fall off at some stage or another due to inadequate fittings. Lastly, Howden's blanking plate for the sink turned out to be plastic with a faux metal coating so it didn't take long for the silveriness to wear off and leave things looking a bit pants. Ikea gets my vote. I'd never get another Howden's kitchen.
  16. Tarmac ramps still there btw, despite that section of the road being finished. Looks like delivery ramp for the furniture shop and another nearby shop. You'd think if there were plans to remove them, they would have been removed before all the road works equipment was moved away.
  17. To clarify, this was done several weeks ago, so before blossom time but the end result is shockingly bad all the same.
  18. It's not just ED, Kelvington Road, which runs between Brenchley Gdns and Ivydale/Cheltenham Rds, has a tree which has been mutilated. All its branches have been lopped short, whether ingrowing or outgrowing. The tree is now a grotesque: A misshapen thing with amputated limbs. Only twigs thinner than an inch or so were spared, from which a smattering of forlorn blossom tentatively blooms. Whoever was responsible has demonstrated a level of numptyism bordering on the deranged.
