  1. I was quite taken aback to find the Palmerston's 'chips' were actually fries. Having said that, they were good enough to give me something else. Was just surprised somewhere with a good food rep would be using those flavourless approximations of what a good chip should be.
  2. I was in the Dulwich Garden Centre late this afternoon. As I stood in the queue for the till, I noticed a lad turn up on a bike wheeling around outside. He caught my interest because he was dressed for cold weather with his hood pulled up and gloves.. I was watching him thinking how boiling he must be when a lad on foot joined him. His top was unzipped, hood down, pretty normal looking. They were in and out of view for a few minutes, gone by the time I finished up. Something or nothing, who knows, but it was a very curious outfit for such a hot day. Bloody hell, Theron, nasty price to pay for sticking up for yourself. I'm amazed you held on after the first punch let alone another three. Your balls are bigger than mine...
  3. It's possible to have a shared sewer. My house shares pipes with 3 other properties. My previous house also shared sewer pipes with adjoining properties. All the pipes ran along the backs of the houses then joined up and ran under my neighbours house to meet up with the public sewer pipes. If this sounds like your situation, then you need to find out who bears responsibility should the pipes fail, for example, which sections if any would you share financial responsibility for with your neighbours.
  4. Cheeky f***er, I'd have asked him for a contribution. Get a tarp to cover the skip when you aren't using it. People always seem to treat open skips as if they were for public use.
  5. Technically a single story extension can be constructed without planning permission up to 15% of the volume of the existing building providing it hasn't been extended since 1947.
  6. Is this in addition to the loss of the line running through Denmark Hill to London Bridge, Renata, or did I just imagine another southern line being axed recently?
  7. I don't like sport, I also happen to consider the fact ATOS are sponsoring the Paralympics to be obscene.
  8. Feed at your peril.
  9. Trip, trop..
  10. Damn, ?10 entry. Looks like I'll have to give the show a miss :-(
  11. Ah, THE Stephen Wright. I didn't know he lived in ED. Thanks for the link :-)
  12. "My mother told me it was an open camp and the POW's used to walk about in Rye Lane ?? They made no attempt to escape ans after the War many stayed and opened Cafes.. " In which case, they were probably internees as opposed to POWs.
  13. How old is a Year 6 child?
  14. David, it was in Nursery Rd, Brixton, to the back of M&S. I lived just round the corner from it in Shannon Grove. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=530909&y=175461&z=110&sv=nursery+road&st=6&tl=Map+of+Nursery+Road,+London,+SW9&searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf
  15. An old running track round the corner from where I used to live was converted into floodlit pitches which created quite a bit of noise disturbance - shouting, whistles etc.
  16. In the interests of fairness, I wish folk would clarify which DMC they are referring to. The one I use is on Chadwick Rd and I don't usually have a problem making appts, even double ones.
  17. I can't begin to imagine how worried you must all be. I've posted to Facebook.
  18. We're near One Tree Hill and the house backs on to the Aquarius so we get a lot of foxes. I think it might be the noise of the cubs playing. Earplugs really help.
  19. "The crows may have had unfortunate experiences with cats before. They are very bright birds and have long memories.." Yes, this occurred to me too. I've had to whistle the cats down from the crow tree several times. At first, the crows made things worse by hopping round scolding the cat just out of its reach. However, I'm sure they've associated me with the whistle and the cat's withdrawal as they quieten down when I appear making it much easier to get the cat to come down. Clever beasts.
  20. Are you near any tall trees? I've been watching a pair of crows building their nest at the top of a tree to the back of my house and they make a hell of a racket when one or other of my cats starts climbing their tree. If they are nesting, it might be an idea to keep your cat in for a bit until the young ones have fledged as it may well all calm down then.
  21. I have some rape plants in my garden, they've practically gone to seed, hardly any blossoms left but maybe they got an earlier start than the agricultural crops. I hadn't noticed they had any smell as such. My house has been smelling of cat spray, but that's most definitely tomcats spraying against the backdoor.
  22. Won't someone think of the parking?
  23. Lol, I'm with BrandNewGuy. It may be a once in a lifetime experience, but so are crabs.
  24. Once upon a time, it was just common courtesy not to burn rubbish on warm days/evenings when windows were likely to be open or washing out on the line. Nowadays people seem to care far less about what they do and how it might impact on those living near them. I suspect we'll see less Council intervention in anti-social behaviours due to the budget cuts as there's no one left to enforce them.
