  1. hi, my baby had reflux but ate like a horse to make up for it! sometimes he would bring up a whole feed (bit by bit over the 3 hours between feeds). we bottle fed and i think that helped as we knew how much he was getting and formula is quite sweet so he loved it. weaning is not as easy as HVs make out. i found it very slow going. so don't worry too much about weaning taking time. start with baby rice. we found that none of the milk thickeners worked (sma staydown, thick and easy), but gaviscon did (but couldn't use too much as gave baby diarrhoea). as long as your baby seems happy and looks healthy, don't worry too much about their numeric weight unless the doctors are worried. xxxxxx
  2. these days i'm happy not to have to go out in the evenings as i can't face a late night and being tired the next day and having to look after baby ko!!! a few weeks ago our friends were having some evening drinks. we thought one of us should at least show our face, but mr ko and i BOTH wanted to stay in and babysit and let the other one go out - we were both too tired to want to traipse into town and then have a hangover the next day! anyway i won and got to stay in with baby ko! how sad is that?! i've been to one forum mummies meet up and it was lovely, nice to meet people in the same boat. no one struck me as boring! i wouldn't ever swap my life for my pre-baby life. but it is repetitive some days and life has less spontaneity.
  3. we also keep a couple of favourite toys which he is only allowed when nappy changed or in the bath - those toys keeps the novelty factor and hence keep them distracted a little longer!!
  4. we tilt baby back to stop too much water getting in his eyes. also use palm of my hand to slick back the shampoo from his temples to stop that running into his eyes. its not easy when they don't like it!
  5. snowboarder Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- We used a local > builder/developer but I did most of dwgs myself > and managed the build etc. what does 'dwg' mean? thanks
  6. sounds great. i am away that week but should be back by the 12th so hopefully see you there. xx
  7. we and quite a few of our neighbours use VIP Bin Cleaning - 0800 558 448. i think its ?3 a clean, they come once a month. i think the first clean costs ?6, then ?3 afterwards. they offer different packages. really nice guys and its ?3 a month well spent!! you have to pay one year up front if you want one of the packages. they have been doing our bin for 2 years now. great as we are in a terraced house with no tap in the front garden. they get all the outside of the bin looking like new too and the inside smelling nice and clean (which means that one of our neighbours always tries to nick our bin now - so we've written our address inside it now!)
  8. hi. does the sikh gurdwara on shawbury road do anything to celebrate diwali? thanks
  9. my mum swears by fennel - we add it to tea (brewed in an open pan with tea bag!) helped with my indigestion during pregnancy. re infacol - baby had really bad wind for months and even with the infacol he still sometimes screamed as he couldn't get the burp to come up. my husband was better than me at winding him! i told the gp i was concerned i could be giving him too much infacol as i gave him two pipettes 6 times a day (ie before every feed). gp said not to worry and it was hard for them to overdose on infacol! however it did seem like a lot so i would doublecheck with your own gp. also you can get infacol on prescription as we used to get through a few bottles a week!
  10. poor you! my little one had very bad wind and we used infacol to help ease it. how many days did you use infacol for? i seem to remember reading that it takes a few days for the effect to build up?
  11. yes sounds like teething. can start very early and i've heard that this is often the most painful bit as the teeth start to come through the gums initially. but can take quite afew months for the teeth to break thru the surface! 3-4 months is quite normal for the teething pains to start from what i've seen with my little ones and other babies. gp told me to give calpol and it does help. gum numbing gels are good too.
  12. my gp told me that you need to remove the dry skin, otherwise it gets itchy. re head - apply olive oil the night before or about 3 hours before, then use a baby COMB (not brush) and comb thru hair which will lift the scales off. the gp advised to then wash the hair and apply aqueous cream afterwards. you should do this daily. doublebase cream (on prescription) is actually much better than aqueous cream, but doublebase is much more greasy (hence why it is better!), so often parents don't want to use doublebase. i basically just put up with baby's hair looking greasy as it was more important to deal with the cradle cap. aqueous cream is water based which is why it is less greasy (that's what gp told me). my little one was much better with this advice. hope your grandchild gets better soon xxx
  13. went to peckham pulse this week and spoke to 3 different people about membership/pay as you go options. three different reception staff gave me three completely different versions and prices, all contradicting one another. out of the three staff, the third one did try to be helpful but even she wasn't 100% clued up on the options. the first one was disinterested and the second person i spoke to on reception was just plain rude. the first time i wanted to talk to someone on reception, only one of the 3 people there was working. the other 2 members of staff were just chatting. the security guard had to tell them that people were waiting to be served!!!! quite honestly it left me feeling that a lot of council money is being wasted by having these good facilities, but making access to them hard by staff that are largely unhelpful and disinterested. i also find that no one answers the phone at peckham pulse. it seems to be a common complaint.
  14. whenever i get leaks, i put the baby up to the next size. my baby tends to leak poo from the back too! also see if you can position the nappy with a bit more of it at the back - easier to do with a bigger size. i don't have the nappy really tight, much better to try to position it to suit your baby's needs. forgot to say we use pampers. good luck!
  15. my little one is only 10 mths old and has already perfected the art of lying face down on the floor, hands over eyes and thumping his little legs up and down - oh dear!
  16. enjoy going out to the pub (ok only soft drinks during pregnancy!) and restaurants and enjoy them uninterrupted! enjoy lie ins. enjoy going shopping without a baby who gets bored everytime i stop to look at anything in the shop! but, look forward to ... amazing newborn days, lovely snuggly cuddles and a whole new little person to light up your lives!!!
  17. personally i think i would go for space. since having a baby we seem to use so much more space and have my mum staying over loads more which is a real help (no family nearby, so is nice when she can come over and give a hand). sometimes space can feel short with so many baby things and a noisy baby! i have friends in forest hill whom i regularly visit. takes less than 10 mins in car, or i bus it (176, 185 or 197 to barry rd upland rd stop - that's about 2 mins walk from northcross rd). if you plan to come to ED a lot, make sure you are close to a good bus route. i get the impression that there's loads of baby things going on in se23 and the horniman park is goooorgeous - horniman museum has a lot of kids activities going on and i think the honor oak pub (st germans/germains? rd)is popular with mums and kids. i agree with keef that mayow park is lovely (although small, but i think there's a kids playground?) a big garden isn't essential, just enough space for the little ones to run around and tire themselves out! i live in se22 by the way, but i have thought about moving to one of the surrounding areas, but stamp duty etc would make a move expensive so not worth moving until we have to. good luck x
  18. good luck! hope it all goes well xxx
  19. whenever i have had unusual crying (has happened twice), i have taken baby ko to the gp. don't care if they think i'm a neurotic mum, just so long as he is checked out and my mind is set at rest! try to make an appt with a female gp who has children herself! i have found such gps always talk about their own experiences, how they coped etc and they don't make you feel neurotic. good luck
  20. i was also going to say toy kitchen as most 2 yr olds i know love imitating mummy and daddy!
  21. thanks! will definitely get some for next time... x
  22. how old is you little one? would a cot bumper help reduce the thumping a bit? poor you. if it is teething pain, then calpol and bonjela should reduce it - do they make any difference? how long has it been going on for? has she got some teeth already? if she has, could this be molars coming thru? so hard when they can't tell us what is wrong. will she play with toys in her cot when she wakes?
  23. thank you for all the responses - much appreciated. moos - had a look on the internet and is the spray called sterimar spray? baby ko has a proper runny nose now which is better as at least the snot is coming out!
  24. thank you for all the tips - you are stars!!! the vomiting has got rid of the mucus in his throat and he has eventually stopped crying. got a nuk snot sucker from sainsburys, some saline drops plus some karvol to put on pillow. i will also try the steam suggestions and raising the bed tonight sounds a good idea. many thanks xxx
