Your advice: Best pieces of baby equipment & what was never used?
Ko replied to Jasmina's topic in The Family Room Discussion
really useful were baby bjorn sling, bouncing baby chair for when they are 2/3 mths old, muslin cloths. try to get a moses basket secind hand - very useful but only used for a few months. also baby sleeping bags ('grobags') are really useful when they are old enough (they have a minimum weight on them) to keep them warm at night. good luck xxx -
Please could someone tell me if they know of any afternoon playgroups? there are lots of things going on in the mornings, but we rarely get out until the afternoon due to the little one liking a long morning sleep! i know there's the peckham rye one o clock club, but just wondering if there are any other free/cheap groups where the little ones can just run around and play? many thanks xxxxx

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone know where i can purchase some of these locally? Also, i have some that are now too small for Baby Ko and they were non-slip. Does anyone know if the 1-2year old ones are all non-slip too? many thanks xxx

pretty sure i used piriton as well - my hayfever was awful during pregnancy.

yes we use a syringe and slowly put the medicine in the cheek area while we lie baby down. you can get them from the chemist for a pound or so.

Some reassurance that i'm not doing a bad job!!!
Ko replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
jenny, you sound a wonderfully loving mother to your little one. if breastfeeding doesn't work for you, please don't worry about it. i wasn't able to breastfeed, but my little one is just fine on formula. the most important thing is that you are happy and baby is happy and that you are enjoying each other xxx -
Tips please on how to start teeth brushing with 15 mth old?
Ko replied to Ko's topic in The Family Room Discussion
just back from a few days away. thanks for all these great tips - lots of things to try! hope one of them works - today baby ko held his toothbrush for a couple of seconds and then threw it on the floor and tried to get away! many thanks once again xxx -
don't feel bad, you are doing a wonderful job being a good mummy to him and being pregnant with no 2! it will take some time but you will get there and hopefully people will post with more helpful tips. what did the nursery suggest as they will have seen this before with other children? xxx

Tips please on how to start teeth brushing with 15 mth old?
Ko replied to Ko's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks clare - do you know anyway i could get these locally? i went into lloyds on ncx rd last week but they didn't have much in for baby teeth cleaning - ditto with peckham rye boots! -
poor you and poor bubs. i have been told by a friend that her little one latched on to her 'favourite' nursery nurse and loved it after a couple of weeks. did he show any signs of having any favourite carers during his settling in? all the new faces (carers plus children) may take a little while to get used to. does baby have a favourite soft toy he could take with him? its a difficult situation, i feel for you xxx in the (unlikely?) event of him not settling, a childminder could be a good option as suggested above.

baby ko has finally got not one but two teeth at the grand old age of 15 months. so we haven't had to worry about cleaning teeth before. however, now he is 15 months old and has clear ideas about what he likes and doesn't like and can struggle a lot when he wants to get away from us! how do we start? we have tried letting him watch us clean our teeth and play with his toothbrush. but he doesn't want to put it in his mouth yet. do we just hold him down and go for it? i think that will just put him off even more! he is very good at clamping his mouth shut when he doesn't want something. usually, eg with nail cutting, i just strap him in his chair, put the tv on and do it while he complains, but that is just every coupole of weeks or so. teeth cleaning twice a day is much more frequent - arghh!! any tips or advice would be very gratefully received. many thanks xxx

Backache in pregnancy, whine moan groan.
Ko replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
a back support belt is fab - really helped me in my pregnancy. also pilates is great for strengthening muscles and reducing back ache. yes lefting toddler doesn't help so i am still doing pilates now mine is 15mths old, otherwise the backache creeps back! do pilates at push studio who are absolutely lovely! -

ah the poor thing. some tips: bathe much less frequently and use something like oilatum in te bath - can get on prescription keep nails short to stop it getting worse thru scratching wear pure cotton - synthetics itch, as does wool moisterise loads and loads - best way to prevent it but still impossible to prevent. xxx

haven't hear of that one! (how much longer have you to to go now?)

donra21 - yes the baby cocoon for the bee works well. i used to take my boy out in his just to get him off to sleep and it did the trick so i guess he felt nice and cosy in it!

hi nunheadmum - just had a look back and it was Leapers at Rye Oak (sorry for any confusion!) - here is a link to the thread at that time: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,418449,433750#msg-433750 it seems that what happened there was to do with surestart and i can see the argument from both sides. i guess that many people now using the PR one o'clock club do not want to find its facilities effectively 'withdrawn' by the introduction of something like an application procedure etc. the main thing is that the council obviously have plans for changes and i'm asking for details of those plans to be shared so that there can be community involvement in what is happening.

Magical adventure garden in the community
Ko replied to kateland's topic in The Family Room Discussion
the adventure garden idea is fab. we would definitely use it. -
have a bugaboo bee which i love. don't think you are just paying for brand though - it really is a joy to push, smooth and comfortable for me too. i go out most days for long walks and my 15 month old boy loves falling asleep in it and has done since he was newborn. most days we get a couple of comments about how comfy he looks in it!!! i would echo what others say about trying to get one second hand in good condition if you don't want to fork out for a new one.
