  2. I shall be writing to them next week. It's ironic that they have applied for a variation on the license since this forum discussion. I should also point out that I'm pretty sure that the windows were not kept shut on Saturday night (let alone the shutters) nor the previous Saturday. Perhaps they should work on that part of their license first ....
  3. You're right, of course, I cannot dictate what DH do with their business. It was merely a suggestion .....
  4. Souc1a - I am glad I am not alone - I feel reassured. The more that write on this forum, the bigger the case, but like James says - a noise diary is important. I have had to resort to wearing ear plugs in order to get to sleep so sometimes I may have missed what time the parties go on until. My boyfriend was woken up the other night because of a party, but didn't know what time - it was beyond midnight. I think it might have been this weekend gone. Did you hear it too? Do you know what time it was?
  5. OK, I actually think DJKQ has really fought my case and been really helpful in providing an argument about breach of license. Can I make it clear though - IT IS NOT THE FOLK NIGHTS THAT HAVE DISTURBED ME! It is the dance/house/mc-ing parties that go on beyond midnight with a boom boom base line coupled with the loud drunkenness of those who wish to scream and shout whilst outside having a fag. Davide - does this come under your remit of responsibility? If so, then it would be great if you could ensure that the windows/shutters are closed at 10.30pm as stated in the license. That's all we really want. Peace and quiet after a certain time, not to stop all events. Also, perhaps the control of private party on a Friday night and another private party on a Saturday night can be changed slightly - perhaps only one night of the weekend be a private party with loud boom boom music. What I would really like is reassurance that the windows will be closed and music will stop after midnight as started in the agreement. How you police it, I don't know. I am not the only resident down here who's been disturbed. A resolution and a peaceful night's sleep is all I ask for. Please can everyone stop getting narky with everyone else. It's not helpful and doesn't resolve anything. DJKQ - thanks for your help and I don't think you were being rude - just pointing out the facts. Davide - thank you for your help too if you are able to resolve the issues. If the issues are not resolved then I shall be in contact with the relevant council officials to make a formal complaint. I think that'll make everyone's lives fairly awkward, won't it?
  6. Live music is fantastic - folk music in particular. We are not disturbed by your events - promise. We are disturbed the MC-ing and loud boom boom music that gets through to your bones and goes on into the early hours. Once you start to hear it, you really hear it and if it goes on beyond midnight, it really stops you from sleeping and wakes you up especially as there is no other noise around at that time of night. Please understand that I am not against DHFC's venue hire nor am I against live music in any way shape or form. In fact, we all need venues to work from and hold events at and I am totally pro the football club making money. Everyone has the right to do this. My complaint is only about music that goes on into the small hours with loud mc-ing and dance music. I don't want to hear the base through my bones when I sleep. That is all. I think sleep is a normal desire, don't you? And although it is not every week, it shouldn't be happening at all especially if they are breaching their license. Sue - I shall check out your Goose Gigs - I would love to come. I love live music and I don't want your events to stop.
  7. Thanks everyone - the sensible input has been really helpful. I will make a note next time we have an issue and deal with it accordingly in the meantime, I'll send an e-mail to Nick McCormack and see what he says. It's not the first time I've spoken to him so perhaps this time he'll take note.
  8. Actually, I have been disturbed by music well after 1am. Less so this summer, but last year, I had to get out of bed around 2.30am and tell them to turn the music down. I was not impressed. The following night there was another party. i had 2 nights without sleep and was ready to kill someone. Admittedly it's not been so bad this summer, but there have been a few nights when I've been kept awake. I only have 1 day off a week and sleep at the weekend is really needed. I really don't want the club to change venue hire but some consideration to music noise would be really appreciated.
  9. Thanks for the sensible suggestion. Industrial fans (or air con) sound like a great compromise. Actually, I don't know if the noise is from football fans or parties, but it's the music rather than people noise that carries across the pitch and it can be very loud. Of course, it is worse in the summer because the windows are open, but we also have a right to sleep with the windows open too. Perhaps the industrial fans could be the way forward.
  10. Hey everyone. Great to hear your views. Actually, I wasn't necessarily questioning yesterday's events. In fact, I like the fact that they have events on during the day and of course they should absolutely earn money for the club. I also like the sounds of the football throughout the winter. My gripe, I suppose, was more about the late night parties which I am also not opposed to, but would prefer it if they could arrange for the windows to be kept closed and for the noise to be kept down a little bit ... just so that I can sleep. I don't want the club to stop earning money. This was not my point.
  11. Is anyone else disturbed by Dulwich Hamlets parties and events? I'm not opposed to them hiring out their venue, but would like for them to have some sort of sound-proofing like most nightclubs and a cut-off time. Is there anyone else out there, who lives locally to the club, also affected?
  12. Hi everyone ... really great to have a chat about our experiences. Thanks for all the support and well wishes! I'm feeling so much stronger now - I've been walking down Melbourne Grove on Tuesday nights since then, but not walked back from my work - had a lift each time, just by chance. I think timing has so much to do with it - Mrs F - you are very right to point out not to make it any bigger than it is and to keep going. I haven't lost faith in anyone and still believe that most people are alright, honest and hardworking. Sh*t can happen anywhere, can't it?!
  13. I'd definitely be interested ... I'm always into learning more skills. If you don't mind looking, that would be great. Thank you.
  14. Actually, most people have said I should have given them the bag, but I'm a bit of a fighter and it is mine after all. Overall I feel OK about it all. I know the nightmares will go and I will become less jumpy. I'm feisty anyway and I think all you can do is have your wits about you .... I didn't that night. My guard was down. But, you know, in 15 years of living in London, that is the first time I have been mugged (and hopefully the last) .... and I've lived in some rough areas. Nice to have lots of support though ... thanks for all the nice messages and words of wisdom.
  15. to be honest, I'm not sure that personal alarms are great ideas. I'm not sure that I would have thought to grab it and set it off anyway! There really wasn't time. I was using a rubbish old cotton bag with virtually nothing in it. It would have just been extremely annoying had they got away with it. Funnily enough, my phone was in my pocket so I'm really glad that it didn't fall out when I fell. I won't be walking that way home in the evening and will spent 2 minutes more walking down lordship lane from now on where the light is better and there are more people around.
  16. I was walking from Blackwater Street towards East Dulwich Grove. They got me on the corner of Ashbourne Grove and Melbourne Grove - funnily enough, just by the fences and not outside the houses. As I always hold onto the belly of my bag when using a shoulder bag, when the mugger went to grab the straps I fell backwards into the road, hitting my head on the ground, but still clutching my bag. There were two of them. The police suggested that they could have been hiding behind a car waiting for me to get to that point, as I just hadn't clocked them. I'm quite feisty and usually very aware, but that night I was deep in thought about something and just hadn't noticed them walking towards me, but then again, they might not have done - I just don't know. I'm alright. Actually a bit shaken, wary at night and having nightmares. I just want other people to be safe hence my posting on the forum. The police have some people in mind, so let's see if I can identify them. I'm glad I fought back. It didn't occur to me to give them my bag, nor to kick out or to scream!
  17. I was mugged 2 weeks ago on Melbourne Grove (3rd November). It was at 8.20pm. They actually didn't get anything because I fought back and kept hold of my bag. I did report it to the police and will attempt to identify the mugger that did the dirty work. Be careful out there! I had felt so safe in ED for so long, but perhaps this is a sign of things changing. If I identify them, I will be taking this to court.
  18. I read in SE22 that there are rumours about a new sports shop opening.... can anyone confirm if this is true?
