So sad. The shop that used to be the cookware shop is still empty. I might be wrong but I seem to remember that was also when the landlord wanted more rent.

Googled the Minutes of the Dulwich Society. So far as I can see the Minutes do not say how many homeless people that those who attended the Meeting believe to be living around the Grove Tavern. The only reference seems to be this ? The Society held a public meeting at the Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club pavilion on Saturday 4 November. 40 people attended. Current concerns: Loss of pub and community benefits. The deteriorating condition of the building ? unanimous agreement that either the current tenant or the Dulwich Estate should maintain the site properly. The Council should deal with the homeless people who were now using the site. The potential for an increase in crime in the area with people camping in the garden. TfL?s lack of action in moving forward with its promise to improve the junction for pedestrians.?

I'd be interested to know > what rent is being paid for this empty building. > Does anyone know. The Dulwich Society newsletter for September says ?Grove Tavern Design Charrette: Now that the Half Moon Hotel and the Crown and Greyhound are open, only one pub on the Dulwich Estate remains closed, the Grove Tavern - on the corner of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common. It has been shut since 2012 following a fire. The tenant, Stonegate, has around 8 years left on its lease and is still paying rent, rumoured to be in the order of ?100,000 per annum and it is now pretty clear that they have no intention of reopening it. The Dulwich Estate did have some discussions with Southwark Planners but they could not agree a way forward and, although the site is identified as a development site in the new draft Southwark Plan, the planners have also said that they want the old pub to remain - impasse! An application to designate the pub as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) was rejected and the site is vacant with the building gradually deteriorating ? a real eyesore at one of the major entrances to Dulwich.? The Society has obtained some funding from Southwark Council to run a design charrette ? a workshop where local residents and other interested parties can discuss different options for the site ? should it remain as a pub or should it be redeveloped? Hopefully the event will be held in late September or early October, look out for more information in the eNewsletter or on the Society?s website.

Passed the Grove Tavern on the bus this afternoon but it looks deserted. Are Social Services on the case does anyone know? -
Security...don't leave your leaflets for all to see!!
Jennys replied to Jacqui5254's topic in The Lounge
Wheelie bins left blocking the pavement are also often a sign that people are away. I wish the binmen could put them back neatly but I suppose they don?t have time. I also agree about leaflets sticking out of letterboxes. -

Thank you very much Rendelharris, that is very useful. And very much nearer than Dulwich Village. -

Does anyone know a shop locally where you can send parcels by courier company? I have never found one in East Dulwich and so used to use the sweet shop in Dulwich Village. But that has recently closed down, I understand. -

It might be because there is also a Dulwich College Prep school located in Cranbrook, kent. I believe this was established as a war evacuation camp for Dulwich College Preparatory School here in South London.

Yes I know it isn?t about coaches, although there are quite a lot of parents? cars outside Alleyn?s as well as coaches. I also agree coaches are better and public transport is surely better still. I only posted the letter mainly because it amused me and also to show school students getting to school seems to be a bit of a problem elsewhere as well

It is clearly not just Dulwich where schoolchildren are causing driving and parking misery.

Alleyn?s School website does not mention anything about the railway but says ?The original building on Townley Road was the red brick building which overlooks Townley Road. The road was built especially for access to the school from Lordship Lane and Dulwich Village when the building was erected in 1887.? Perhaps, sadly, the school thinks they have moral rights to allow coaches to park there. If so they are totally misguided.

Great news.

Hope you will soon find your cat safe and well, Richard. I would like to point out though that sadly these are not ?new killings? but have been happening in a wide area, including Dulwich, for a long time. Cat owners are advised to keep animals locked indoors after dark.

Dog walkers in Dulwich Park this morning.
Jennys replied to contented sow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hope this makes you feel better: last week I walked through the park and noticed a woman on her mobile phone taking no notice of her dog that was trailing behind her. The dog found something disgusting in the horse track and rolled joyfully in it. I could see something unpleasant sticking to the dog?s back. The dog then ran along to join its owner who was still yacking on her phone and oblivious of what she would now need to deal with. -
Could the Dulwich Society help perhaps.

I have been fobbed off in the past with the reply from the school that these are coaches from visiting schools playing matches against Alleyns. But clearly they are coaches which transport Alleyns students to and from school.

It reads like the journalist who wrote it has never visited. But I am probably wrong there.

Could you make a same size model from cardboard boxes and see if you can manoeuvre it. Good luck.
