I see that the Southwark quietway stakeholder engagement map ( yes that really is the name) has cyclists travelling along Calton Avenue and across into Turney Road. Surely this is one of the routes which will almost certainly see an increase in traffic if the proposed no right turn from Townley Road comes into effect.

Accident on Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Grove
Jennys replied to sophie_e_down's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Rerouting the 37 along Townley Road would not only cause a huge bottleneck and be pretty dangerous but would also take the only bus service away from part of East Dulwich Grove. This is a road which will soon have at least one school and a health centre which people will need to access. So more people will drive their children to school than might be the case if there was a direct bus. -
The guy who used to run that shop owned that bit of pavement outside the shop in Lordship Lane I seem to think. Maybe this means the vehicle is technically off the road.

I would also like to wish the lady who has been in hospital a speedy and complete recovery. I know how boring and generally ghastly a long stay in hospital can be. -

I think you want the building site where prefabs used to be. Only one remains now. Are you sure it isn't the planning application posted by Laur? -

I am very shocked to read this was a hit and run accident. Was it caught on camera I wonder. Poor lady. My best wishes for her recovery. -
Surely a solution can be worked out by transport experts which, whilst preserving the right turn, protects pedestrians and cyclists. Banning the right turn just transfers the problem onto other local streets endangering pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Yet more public finds will have to be shelled out to solve the new problems.

When I phoned Southwark Council recently about the biggest mound of dog poo imaginable right next to our gate they did send someone to clear it away that same day. I would normally remove it myself but this was just too nasty...

No i don't want a CPZ, Townley Green. I personally do not need to park in the area around the junction. I fully recognise that school staff need to park. I recognise that students come from a wide area and that sadly being the case the coaches are very necessary. My point is that the cars and coaches parked near the schools make the roads even more dangerous for pedestrians and indeed for cyclists. My comments concern safety pure and simple.

Re numbers of staff at Jags and Alleyns. Jags "whole school travel plan" States that up to 250 staff are on site at any one time and that around 40% of them normally drive to work. I cannot find the figure for Alleyns on line but there is a list of teaching staff. I haven't counted them although it is long list. In addition to teaching staff there will be professional admin/support staff members, school site staff, catering staff etc. many of these people will need to drive to work and park on surrounding streets.

I would guess that Alleyns and Jags schools have several hundred teaching and support staff between them, many of whom will need to drive to work. Forty or fifty parking spaces on site will not go very far to meet their needs.Ideally they would indeed walk or cycle to work or use public transport but that would perhaps be difficult if they are carting textbooks, marking etc around.

Think the Scandinavian churches in rotherhithe have their combined Christmas fair this weekend. Assume lots of Finnish families will be there.

I also received this consultation document this morning. I too am concerned that banning a right turn from Townley road into east dulwich grove will cause increased chaos at the junction with townley road and lordship lane. This junction is already a bottleneck at the beginning and end of the school day with many large coaches attempting to turn there, and is also jammed up during the rush hour. Moreover crossing Lordship lane at the pedestrian crossing near Townley road/Heber road is already quite dangerous with cars speeding down the hill from the Forest Hill direction and buses at the bus stop blocking the sight lines. Children from several local schools cross the road at this point. The construction of new housing on both sides of lordship lane near this junction can only add to the traffic problems here. I obviously support improved safety for cyclists but would suggest a dedicated cycle path, separate from the road, could be considered. If there is room for tree planting there should be room for a cycle path. The East Dulwich Grove/Townley road junction was indeed replanned fairly recently and I am surprised it needs a rethink now. Perhaps Southwark should address the problem of coaches and cars bringing pupils to Jags and Alleyns
