  1. I am very interested in this thread as we have also been on the waiting list for nearly 2 years for a nursery place. My son is currently at Nellies which we love but as a teacher it makes much more financial sense for me to have him in just a term time nursery and I also love the setting of DUCKS. The question is when do more places become available as we thought we had a place this september but missed it so I am really hoping for one next year. I know that DC staff and siblings get priority which is why we got bumped down but is there a bigger intake in one year- am guessing when they are 4? thanks for starting the post.

  5. Hiya Sorry to hear what you are going through. I had terrible symphysis pubis disorder from 22 weeks in my first pregnancy and had it since 11 weeks this time around. It became so bad I was on crutches and then wheelchair bound but as a result have seen some top level consultants and always been told to see physios due to their length of training and also that you need to be careful having any manipulation when pregnant as your ligaments are more relaxed. Saying that I found nhs physios to never have enough time and so used private ones. Currently seeing Russell at dulwich Physio above DMC from recommendations on here and he is amazing. Hope you manage to get some relief.
  6. Great to see more and more people joining, bring on the 12th of march, although the way things are going for me, I may well have to have a c-sec a few weeks earlier but fingers crossed I dont. Love Green and Blue too, they do amazing hot chocs! Unfortunately I am not able to go to legs, bums and tums as my hips/pelvis are playing up too much. Very jealous of those of you getting to stay fit!
  7. Midivydale really hope you get well soon, rest up well. Jo thanks for the list, funny how many of us due on the same day! I am happy with anywhere in ED or wherever. I'll be driving so can give any other HH girls a lift, think that's Jenny and Rosie but if there's anyone else let me know. Looking forward to catching up. Jenny
  8. I was lucky to get a private/individual room when I had my son last April but I think I was considered 'high risk' as came in a wheelchair and hadnt walked for a month prior to my c-section. They and I had no idea what I would be like after delivery and my husband is quite a big chap and I think they wanted him around in case I still needed to be lifted. Infact as soon as the spinal block wore off, I was able to walk, if a little gingerly. The hospital was so full the first night- something like 52 mums and babies and only 4 midwives and the rest health care assistants. It was mental and all our medications were delayed so was good having husband to chase up my pain relief. I am due again next year and it's good to know that partners can stay over on the main wards although my husband is a snoring and I don't think I could put the other poor women through that! Just as an aside, I am hoping for a VBAC but if I have to have another C-section due to my hips/pelvis collapsing, my health insurance will pay for private but I am wondering if there is any point as I think private really pays off in the after care, i.e. getting your own room and if that isn't always the case, as sillywoman says, then maybe it's not worth it. Does anyone have any thoughts? thanks.
  9. Hi Clare All about Ski Scott Dunn. We went this year with them and they were awesome. One of the few ski companies that provide English qualified nannies. We had 7 kids and 8 adults so a potential nightmare but we had 3 nannies who came 8.30 till 5 every day and helped the older children with ski school. It was an amazing holiday. They also cooked all the kids food, cleared up, provided shed loads of toys, mountain buggies, cots, snacks and car seats. They are v expensive but if you book now out of school hols you can get a 20 percent discount. We will definitely be going with them again! Jenny
  10. Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I've been taking my 17 month old swimming in Herne Hill with Baby Swimming for the last year or so and he had got up to level 5 but now the teacher is on maternity leave so they are no longer offering the higher level classes. My husband had started to take him on a Saturday and we are looking for a similar type of class on a Saturday but struggling to find anything- I think the ones at Dulwich gym and Peckham Pulse are weekdays only as is the one with Aqua tots in Dulwich but maybe I have got this wrong. If there are no other equivalents, I am thinking we just take him to the Jelly Baby sessions and have fun until he is older and can start proper lessons but at what stage does it stop being 'baby swimming' and become actual lessons. Many thanks
  11. Oh also meant to say my work colleague runs Pregnancy Legs, Bums and Tums at JAGS sports club on a Sunday evening at 6.30. I am going to go this Sunday to see if my hips/pelvis can manage it and have heard rave reviews from friends in the past. Jenny
  12. Hiya Great to meet so many of you. Am about end of October but not 1st weekend in November but could always come to another one or maybe we could do one evening. Jenny
  13. Hey Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow and thanks for directing me to the right cafe! Jenny
  14. 11 good for us too. Is that the cafe in the park next to the one o'clock club?
  15. I'm also free on the 1st in the daytime and would love to meet up. Will probably have my toddler in tow so anywhere with a bit of space would be fab.
  16. Hi ladies, What a fab thread. I am expecting my second baby march 12th, already have a 16 month old boy. Also been really sick but feel like it may be easing, although SPD now kicking in so if it's not one thing it's something else! I would love to meet up too. Work part time so free on weds and thurs but perhaps an evening or weekend better as we all work different days?
  17. I've been meaning to post here all week but not had the chance but just to add that my son was another tongue-tied baby and also has this. In fact I only noticed it about 3 weeks ago when I was looking in his mouth at his teeth and noticed it. I guessed it might be linked to the tongue tie but this perhaps explains why, even after the op, he had so many issues breastfeeding. He has been fine with lumpy food so far and too young (11 months) for me to notice any speech issues. My best friend is a paediatrician and was seeing her boss today who happends to specialise in speech as well so she was going to question her and I will report back. My husbands main concern is that he wont be able to wear a gum shield for rugby......!
  18. Agree that was v similar to my elective c sec at kings. They only took my baby away when I had a bit of a haemorrhage but then lots of skin to skin etc. Also no bubble wrap though!
  19. http://www.pelvicpartnership.org.uk/
  20. Hi stb sorry to hear about your pain. I had severe SPD which they now call pelvic girdle pain. Am on my iPhone at the mo but will send you some good links from my computer later that can give you guidance. Kings actually referred me to St Thomas as they have an amazing SPD specialist there called Paula plus regular hydrotherapy sessions. There was a big wait though so I also saw a private physio at Six Physio but they are no longer in the area but had several reconmendations for Russel as the posts above. Off the top of my head I think the site is the pelvic network and offers loads of advice etc. The main thing to do now is rest as much as poss till you see a physio and they can reallign things. All the best
  21. I can totally relate to so many of these posts and the high level of confusion out there. I am a Biologist and so do have a good understanding of the science but at the same time have been swept up in all the mixed advice out there and what is 'the right thing to do'. One thing to point out, and a few other posters have done this, is that so many of these diseases are multifactoral which means that it is very difficult to blame the illness on one thing. The genetic profile of a person plays a huge part of what diseases they are susceptible to and then whether or not the environment they come into contact with will lead to them getting that disease. On my part I was worried about asthma and eczema as my brother, husband and brothers in law all suffer from them. I've gone into my breast feeding issues in the past so wont again in detail but gave my son only expressed breast milk for 12 weeks. the whole time I kept looking at an NHS poster that quoted the different illnesses that your child would be less likely to get if you breastfed for this length of time. In the end expressing caused me even more damage so I stopped but really beat myself up about it. My husband is a mathematician and looked at the statistics behind these timeframes and found them to be based on v. small sample studies and without taking account into all the other factors. Both asthma and eczema are hereditary on the male line and (without dumbing down the science too much) are caused by quite 'strong' or dominant genetic factors. My husband, brother and brothers in law were all exclusively breast fed for a year (with solids introduced at 4-6 months) and all still got asthma and eczema, in fact from 5 months they had it. So far my son has not, at 9 months but I bet if he had i would be blaming myself for giving him formula. On the coeliac front I have had to research this quite heavily too as my mother and uncle have it and I have been tested for it quite regularly. There is a lot of confusion out there- my HV said to wait for a year to give gluten, GP no idea. I am lucky that I have a GP and paediatrician in the family but even they were not sure. On speaking to the coeliac society, their view on the latest reseach was to introduce at 6 months and to monitor. They had research to show that delaying till a year could be more damaging- can try and dig out this piece if anyone interested. (but also felt more research was required). So what I am trying to say, whilst giving my family medical history(!) is to agree that there is so much conflicting advice out there but also to remember that so many other factors play a part in these diseases. Agree with so many of you in 'doing what feels right'. Sometimes a little knowledge is too much info and we end up feeling guilty for not following the correct advice. Had wanted to word this more clearly but my little boy is ill at the mo and my brain not feeling like it used to!
  22. Used it last week for the first time with my 8 month old and was v. impressed. I am not a member but been able to book 3 days in advance. Trying out the dulwich one tommorow but have also heard good things about there too.
  23. Hi Fuschia sorry to hear of your ongoing problems with the Tongue tie. My son was on just EBM from 5 weeks as the op didn't work well for us. I seem to remember him having 7 bottles in 24 hours of about 4-5 ounces each time in the early weeks and then more like 6-7 ounces at 10 weeks but just 6 bottles then. I was also concerned about overfeeding but health visitors assured me he would be sick if he ate too much, which on occasion he would. So as not to waste breastmilk, I used a larger storage bottle in the day and would decant out 3-4 ounces and then top up if he looked like he wanted more. I remember using the some equation that worked out quantities for formula and he was always on a few ounces more each day when it was breastmilk. Interestingly he did take less when I switched to formula. Hope that makes sense and helps, writing on my phone. Pm if you need more info and good luck with it.
  24. Hey Fuschia I ended up expressing and bottle feeding till the op. He came straight back to the breast after the op no probs. Realise much harder for you as other kids to look after so less time to express but did take the pressure off till the op. Best of luck
