  1. I've been to a game or two, maybe a few hundred people on a saturday afternoon I'd say...there are probably more in Sainsbury's next door I'd guess, seems a fairly civilised affair
  2. Thanks for posting this Peckham Rose, really helpful. I'll email them and get a form - do they actually listen/pay attention though? The last thing we need is more footpath widening, and I hope the cycle by pass they propose is better thought out than the disruptive, expensive and never used it seems efforts further up Forest Hill Road near the school. Great idea on the right hand filter for traffic though...I do wonder how much disruption this will cause though, given the Thames Water debacle and the various other works which seem to be part of the commute down to Peckham Rye station, a bit of space for a short journey wouldn't go amiss!
  3. I've lived near the co-op on Forest Hill for four years now and consitently have a whinge on here about it's empty shelves, (though half the time it feels like most of the food seems to get stacked on the floor, poor customer service, terrible perishables and over pricing of half the stuff...oh, and the fact that they use the pavement outside as the stock room and fill it with empty cages all day every day...it seems that this is the co-op way so don't hold out any hopes for the LL branch..."Good with Food"????? Trading standards should look into that claim!
  4. To paraphrase Bill Shankly, if it was happening in my back garden I'd close the curtains
  5. @ aspidistra...well they say cleanliness is next to godliness so you can't really complain!
  6. Any chance of getting an extra ticket machine (or Oyster card facility in the operator kiosks at Peckham Rye station? The machine has broken down (again) this morning so no Oyster option....
  7. The car option would be great save for the fact that Thames Water will soon have dug up every road in out and between East Dulwich and Peckham Rye. They have apparently promised to resurface Rye Lane but I fear that this is something of a disincentive since they have started to dig deeper and longer than the roadworks that were originally planned to end by end November... Still, at least the delay in getting to the station is kindly being taken care of by Southern trains who seem to be running every other train about 10 minutes late since the start of 2011...
  8. Interesting exchange of views here but at the end of the day if M&S/Waitrose/Unckle Tom Cobbley think there is a good enough return to be had, they will open one. If they don't they won't. Will we bleeding hearts/snobs/inverted snobs/proles of ED-narnia have much say in the matter?! Also worth echoing a comment made earlier - as a "red" I have developed a grudging respect for you James. If anyone does put in a planning app can you get them to fund a working lamp post or three in Peckham Rye park as part of the "quid pro quo"! For what its worth, I am in the Co-op out/anyone else in camp - if it was a horse they'd shoot the thing and build a giant glue wholesaler in its place. What a waste of space! And its little brother on Forest Hill Road!
  9. Mine too!
  10. I popped in late this afternoon and still not much of anything on the shelves. This in itself isn't unusual as this particular co-op don't seem to be able to discern what the shelves are intended for and often leave food on the floor waiting to be unpacked, but even this seemed in short supply...somehow they still managed to have a massive queue. A few weeks ago they were running out of spare change and were asking punters to help out (clearly unaware that there is post office all of 30 seconds walk away)... wish someone would close this place down and turn it over to a decent operator...
  11. All hail the Queen monitor of sarcasm, ignorance, cynicism, idiots and road surfacing. The rest of us don't really need an opinion while you're around - thanks!
  12. @ DJKilla Queen - I've no problem with being called a cynic, but I do take exception to the "idiot" label. If you have the time and inclination to contact the council, not least with the positive belief to take what they say as fact, then all power to you. The world needs more people like you. If, however, you get time between corresponding with the council and riding your high horse down Rye Lane, you might want to reign your neck in a little at your pithy name calling to a comment which is born simply from freezing my backside off and getting occasionally soaked while walking the half mile to and from station to bus stop twice a day every day for the last few months.
  13. Thames Water finishing their works and a complete resurface by the end of November? Really? What else? There more chance of that mythical Waitrose/M&S Foodhall popping up in place of the old Woolworths if you ask me. As I understand it, there is now legislation in place "the Streetworks Act" which charges companies who (not unreasonably now and then) have to dig up the carriageway to maintain their assets, and charges them even more if they over run...I wonder if we'll see any of the revenue from those charges put into the development of Rye lane...
  14. I moved into Colyton Road in April and rarely head down that end the road. I had no idea there was a sports centre there open to the public, a little marketing and promotion might not be a bad a idea.
  15. nothing almost threatening implied Scott, I've enjoyed good nights in the Bishop and a couple of dodgy dates in the Florence. Good to see that people are still investing in the ED and Peckham Rye, good luck with it. Any idea when they will be open for business?
  16. I heard it was the Wishing Well down Bellenden way that they'd got hold of...
  17. If anyone wants evidence that Co-op is expensive and sh*t then just head to the shop at the bottom of Dunstans Road; its rare that they have fully stocked shelves, if you buy any fruit and veg you better eat it on the way home as it will have turned into some mush by the time you open your front door! We recently had half the shop closed off as the ceiling had fallen in and the prices put it on a par with London Bridge M&S! There is generally stock strewn all over the floor and the staff are about as customer focused as a house brick! (Bar the Freddy Mercury look a like and the small bald guy who goes the extra mile) This pains me as a proud Mancunian but the sooner the Co-Op shapes up or ships out the better!
  18. So when the tallest building in Europe is about to open on his doorstep the Mayor is thinking about reducing the transport links into it! Arse/elbow anyone? I guess Boris will just rely on that old Tory strap line and tell everyone to "get on their bikes"! (Which I would be more than happy to do if I didn't think the thing will be nicked as soon as I've locked it up).
  19. Slightly off topic but does anyone know if you have to be a member to use this gym or can you pay as you go? Many thanks
  20. What an utter waste of money, especially the one half way up Underhill road. Its up there with the cobbling and widening of the junction of Nigel Road at the bottom of Peckham Rye for waste of public funds.
  21. Saturday night debate...big energy company questioning the future of our energy...any thoughts?
  22. Councillor Barber, I don't doubt that you believe these facts about the amount of salt, number of people and equipment that is available, but clearly the officials in council are not deploying these resources. What a joke Southwark Council have been shown to been tonight. I wouldn't mind if this was out of the blue or similar levels February this year but we have a half hour of sleet and the whole place comes to a grinding halt. Hundreds of people walking up Peckham Rye this evening, I've seen more salt in a bag of Golden Wonder. What on earth does it take to get the basic services right? If one Councillor can come up with a decent plan to sort out basic services then they will get my vote come the next election.
  23. Cynical? Moi? Songs of Innocence and Experience. Hopefully the driver did the decent thing. Irrespective of that, there maybe a purse-less young (or old or middle aged, I've clearly already generalised too much here tonight already) who is wondering where she (or perhaps he even) might have mislaid it, which was really the point of my post...
  24. Saw a chap on the 363 bus hand in a Luis Vuiton purse today. It was a Go Ahead London Central bus reg V128 LGC I think. Just posting if anyone is looking for it and the driver, ahem, "forgets" to hand it in...
