  1. My little boy has been going to Magic Moments for two years since he turned 18 months, after reading recommendations on the forum, they don't seem to advertise, and when we went back this Monday it was very quiet since so many children have moved on to reception year so I wanted to put the word out. It's such a warm environment for little ones, Lynda and Tessa are lovely, and the set up is ideal for stay at home mums or dads who need a break. They open four mornings a week, 10-12.15, you can do one or more days and it costs ?10. The nursery is at 2 Bew Court in the big estate off Lordship Lane, best time to pop in is before the doors close at 10.30am. I don't have the landline number but Lynda's mobile is 07973 360068.
  2. Hello, I've sent you a PM. Our German au pair arrived last week and would love to meet up with others in the area
  3. My friend's partner was invited to attend the birth of a complete stranger after finding the woman collapsed on the street and calling an ambulance for her. Apparently her husband wasn't going to make it in time. So he did!
  4. How about a Roman coin, or a bottle of whisky to put by until she's 21
  5. You can get Peltor kids' earmuffs on Amazon for about ?12. My baby finds them comfy and they should fit until he's seven
  6. I'd recommend a Sebo Felix and a Polti Pro, depending on how often you plan to steam clean. You can use the steamer to clean kitchen and bathrooms and cut down on the use of chemical cleaners around the new baby. http://www.sebo.co.uk/domestic-vacuum-cleaners/uprights/felix-pet/ http://www.poltiuk.co.uk/en/catalog/consumer/66/50003
  7. Hello, Well, I contacted the company I bought the pump from (Express Yourself Mums, so they should know their stuff) and told them that the tubing was too big for the connector so they sent me a replacement which is exactly the same as the one I have. So the answer appears to be: yes, you are supposed to ram it in. On the plus side, all that ramming seems to have damaged the plastic a bit so now it's easier to get in. Once you get over all that, the pump itself is really good. I don't understand the design logic at all. It's definitely not a matter of the tubing plugging firmly into each socket, as some people have described. Mine only goes halfway in, through force. My sister has a slightly older pump and its tube connectors are different to mine, and plug in normally. I didn't contact Medela itself, but hopefully I'll get around to it at some stage. Fuschia and hellosailor: sorry, I tried to reply to your PMs but your mailboxes are full!
  8. It's very strange, isn't it. It doesn't seem right that they have to be rammed in. The old medelas had two "adaptor" ends that fitted fine. The video below shows the medela swing tube as having different fittings at each end, one an adaptor type and the other a triangle type, which is why I think mine is faulty. Will try and contact them next week and let y'all know.
  9. Thank you for the offer Fuschia, but I can wait until Monday. I just wanted to get started while the mood was upon me, but there's no great rush
  10. Thank you, I hadn't thought of checking youtube. I found a video that showed the two ends up close and it looks like mine is faulty. Just hope I haven't broken it trying to ram it in!
  11. Hello, I was wondering if someone could help. I've just bought a Medela swing pump but can't seem to set it up and am wondering if it's just me being stupid or if it's faulty. The instructions say to insert the "adaptor end" of the tubing into the pump and the other end into the motor, but both ends of the tube I have are identical and do not fit the pump end. I did manage to ram it in for a second and it worked, but then it fell out. I could just wait until Monday when the shop reopens, but I'd really hoped to get started on pumping this weekend. Any advice appreciated
  12. I'm not sure you should be using aloe vera gel during pregnancy. I'd also be a bit dubious about tiger balm -- maybe you could check with your midwife before trying them. The list of essential oils and herbal remedies to avoid during pregnancy is surprisingly long. A pillow, on the other hand, won't do any harm
  13. Hello Sue, I'm up for meeting one morning this week if you're still organising. Thursday or Friday at the electrical coffee place best for me. Also wondering if any other spring baby forumites are in Forest Hill? I'm due on April 12, taking leave from the end of March and getting a bit nervous about the long months ahead home if not alone. Jennie, I'm going to yoga with Linda above the Health Matters shop on Wednesday mornings. The classes are small. I haven't been to other pregnancy yoga classes so can't compare, but I always come away feeling quite nice afterwards. It's very gentle exercise, relaxation and exercises to raise stamina in preparation for labour. Maybe it might be worth a visit when you do go on leave. Trishx
  14. Hello ladies, I'm also due mid-April with my first and would love to come along tonight too, providing I still have some puff by the end of the day! Would be brilliant to meet some local soon-to-be mums, Trish
