And the families with 3 cars in one household must be few and far between.

Fair points but that?s assuming the one area being consulted on in the ?East Dulwich parking study and healthier streets? consultation would all result in one same zone, not necessarily. Cllr James McAsh has previously stated it won?t necessarily be the whole zone implemented, but it?s all being consulted on and the roads where there is demand will be considered. Herne Hill is both Lambeth and Southwark btw. Yes it could end up being full-day but only if that?s what the majority want.
  3. Scare tactics and interesting first posts dulwichresident01. If a zone was to be implemented around Lordship Lane, it could end up being just a 2hr restriction like Herne Hill?s. Talking to a cafe owner there today she said it?s had no impact. Only 22% come to Lordship Lane by car, 90% of those are local so a big opportunity for many to switch to walking and potentially spend more ?s. Those that truly can?t could instead come outside of the restricted hours eg not 12-2pm or simply pay. Saw someone I know getting into her car on Lordship Lane recently, lives on Melbourne Grove and I?m sure there are many other locals who park up to get the shops quickly on the way back from a longer trip - it doesn?t mean they won?t continue to shop or go elsewhere, just that they plan ahead a bit more effectively to walk. The price of the current ?convenience? is illegally polluted air. Lots of change is needed when you read reports like this https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jan/09/toxic-fumes-children-health-air-pollution-emissions?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other. Our local schools are having to put up green screens, air filtration systems in classrooms and run no-idling action days to try and mitigate against the toxic air.
  4. Businesses need not fear parking restrictions - they currently exist along a lot of Lordship Lane where customers can park for free for upto 30 mins. Recent evidence shows shoppers who travel by more active methods (eg walk or cycle) actually spend more. ?The study found that people walking, cycling and using public transport spend the most in their local shops, spending 40 per cent more each month than car drivers.? https://road.cc/content/news/251992-more-shoppers-more-shops-tfl-stats-show-benefits-designing-streets-around In Southwark?s 2015 high street study on Lordship Lane 22% travelled by car (with the exception of the Walworth Rd the highest % across the borough) yet 90% considered themselves to be local. ?The picture is one of a local population using the centre because it is convenient and easy to access, but with rather more than expected choosing to use a car to get there and back.? With the illegal levels of air pollution in the area I?m pleased the council is taking action which will encourage people to consider walking instead of driving.
  5. Thanks for raising and pursuing pinkladybird. Whilst it might be tempting to have an open fire or another log on the wood burner at this time of year, unfortunately it?s significantly contributing to the poor air quality locally. ?Domestic wood burning is the largest single source of PM2.5. According to one analysis of government data, it produces more than twice as much as all road traffic. While concerns about diesel vehicles focus largely on the nitrogen dioxide they produce, the evidence tying particulates to death and disease is even more powerful.? https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2018/feb/22/wood-diesel-indoor-stoves-cities-pollution

  7. Think it's reduced it by just 2 spaces, 1 each side. I've been told that this is to allow a fire engine to be able to turn into the new entrance, so essential. I don't know, but assume the council doesn't have to consult for those kind of safety changes.
  8. I notice they?re on Twitter, a complaint there might draw it to the owners attention
  9. Discount? Each household can get max of 3 permits but only for cars registered to that property with DVLA. Only discounts I can see are for disabled badges, motorbikes and electric vehicles.
  10. Pretty sure this is a private road and the cars have always parked outside the properties the owners live in. The road has been significantly narrowed at the corner, used to be much wider and now the lorries are having issues. Seem to remember the plans showed space for disabled parking further up the road - no surprises they haven?t been able to squeeze this in.
  11. In case you've missed the lamppost poster, please see below link to consultation on the planning website. Location is the garden behind 68 East Dulwich Grove (corner of Melbourne Grove northern section). Consultation end 25th October. Worth noting the site already has permission granted for a smaller 2 bed property. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9578377
  12. Call Southwark?s noise team, they work til 2.30am and should be able to send someone https://www.southwark.gov.uk/noise-and-antisocial-behaviour/how-to-report-a-noise-problem
  13. I?ll ask James about the lorry control scheme on the councillor thread
  14. Brilliant. Thank you
  15. Please report to 101, any intel you can provide helps the Police do their job.
  16. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------ > And the muggings by people on mopeds? Don't think this was mentioned Sue, but I got the impression the Police would welcome challenge if you feel this is something that should be prioritised by the Goose Green neighbourhood team. From the meeting they explained their role as a neighbourhood team is long term problem solving/getting to underlying issues, patrolling and providing police visibility - although you can see from the list above it's much broader than this. Hopefully you can make the next meeting when we finalise the date. The more we can get members from the community attending these meetings the better. Edited to add: the Goose Green neighbourhood team consist of two Police Officers and one PCSO.
  17. Yes from what I see on local social media I think there could be an issue of crimes not being reported, people for whatever reason not wanting to use 101, or hesitant to use 999. Hopefully with more local neighbourhood policing, (like the event on Goose Green in August),the coffee morning drop-ins and these quarterly panel meetings it will help promote how best to report crime. If you're on Twitter please follow @MPSGooseGreen. They'll be holding weapons sweeps locally soon and would love to get the community involved. Reassuringly nothing has been on previous ones! And just to clarify...the boundary for the new Goose Green ward can be found on this link (also has crime stat for the area) https://www.met.police.uk/a/your-area/met/southwark/goose-green/
  18. Thanks to all who attended last night's neighbourhood panel meeting for Goose Green ward. It was great to hear everything our local neighbourhood policing team have been doing in recent months, as well as being an opportunity for locals to raise their concerns. Please see below update from the team: -PC Fodor has identified three separate burglary suspects, two have been arrested and charged with one sentenced to six months imprisonment -We have arrested and interviewed a male for pwits (possession with intent to supply controlled drugs) -Working with us, L&Q housing association have secured a court eviction order for a problem address on the ward where the above male resides -A prolific beggar on Lordship Lane has been issued a CPN (community protection notice) which he has subsequently breached. In the process of being summonsed to court. -We have held thirteen contact points across Goose Green to engage with the community -Held one engagement event on Goose Green with a Police dog and traffic motorbike unit. Approx 150 people turning up through the morning. -PCSO Kent has done some fantastic work linking up business?s on Lordship Lane and in the process of setting up a business watch / whatsapp group. -?Op Sceptre? regular weapons sweeps and targeted patrol to help keep this type of crime on Goose Green low. -Visiting all victims of burglary and their neighbours to offer target hardening advice. -Patrols across the Goose Green ward every shift. At the meeting we agreed the following ward panel priorities 1.Residential burglary prevention 2.Motor vehicle crime prevention 3.Raising awareness of the Goose Green ward panel and police neighbourhoods team I'll post again when the next meeting date is confirmed. In the meantime if you use Twitter, please follow @MPSGooseGreen for regular updates. Thanks
  19. James - I wonder if it's possible for you to look into how and whether the roads with issues from lorries could be made part of the London Lorry Control Scheme, or Southwark's own equivalent? I don't know too much about it but have in the past seen signs like in the link below on other 'rat-run' type roads such as Lyndhurst Grove and Wood Vale and think it could really help us in Goose Green ward. We have similar issues on the northern section of Melbourne Grove, with loud lorries crashing across the speed bumps in the early hours, or private rubbish trucks doing collections between 4-7am. https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-weight-restriction-traffic-signs-for-lorries-england-uk-42050843.html
  20. There seem to have been several threads on here lately regarding crime so I thought it a good idea to share some details about our local policing team. Our Goose Green ward has 3 police officers assigned to it, forming the 'Safer Neighbourhood Team'. They have weekly drop-in sessions (advertised on Twitter @MPSGooseGreen) but also hold quarterly panel meetings - intended to be an open discussion on concerns raised by the community. I've personally found it to be a great opportunity to hear and better understand the challenges they face and how we, as a community, can best support them. The next panel meeting is at 7pm Wednesday 10th October at the Dulwich Constitutional Club, 33 East Dulwich Grove SE22 8PW. Hope to see you there!
