The council make it very easy, simple application form and deliver the necessary barriers.

  3. Unfortunately I couldn?t attend the open day a few weeks ago, please could someone summarise what the plans are or provide a link if any detailed plans are now available? Any updates on timeline would also be appreciated. Thanks
  4. Notice Horizon have a poster up offering daily / weekly rates for parking at Sainsbury?s DKH.

  7. Did you contact the school? I?d be surprised if this was the case.
  8. Southwark Council report their own air quality monitoring results. For 2017 there are many more than the 44 sites on the Southwark News report breaching the limit. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/environment/air-quality/air-quality-data-monitoring-stations You have to download the spreadsheet. Not sure if any Champion Hill roads included here?
  9. I suspect Townley Road would form part of a Dulwich Village consultation zone, early discussions are underway. It was mentioned at the Dulwich Society open meeting in January that many residents and local businesses were having problems with commuter parking.
  10. Not sure how many of us locals use Nextdoor (it's available as app and online) but if you're interested in updates from our local policing teams it might be worth registering as Southwark Police are going to start using this platform soon (in addition to their Twitter feed I believe), to engage with more of the community. As well as providing updates here they'll also be able ask the community for help - eg. missing persons or post urgent alerts. https://blog.nextdoor.co.uk/2018/09/26/uk-police-forces-and-local-authorities-now-on-nextdoor

Guess you have to weigh up the convenience v?s the consequence ?...exposure depends on the exhaust of the vehicle in front, and the air pollution that drivers breathe in is often worse than that of a pedestrian. We are fooling ourselves if we think we can hide in our cars - and by hiding in our cars we are making the pollution problem worse.? 12. Obviously not everyone can, but a lot could - 1 in 4 car journeys are under a mile. If you're sat in a car in traffic you can be breathing in exhaust fumes upto 10 times as much as outside the car.

Walking/cycling will get you there quicker, we go to the Village daily using these methods and regularly beat the traffic along East Dulwich Grove. The air pollution and congestion in the Village from parents driving to the independent schools is appalling so there's little sympathy from me that this is making your journey inconvenient - I hope it encourages many to shift to active / public transport - but of course it will take awhile to settle. @rendelharris - I appreciate your posts, please keep going!
  14. A reminder that the meeting is tomorrow evening.
  15. Southwark Living Streets (working with London Play & Southwark Council) are trying to find parents from 10 streets in East Dulwich that would like to close their road temporarily sometime this Summer to hold a Play Street. Play Streets are a brilliant way of getting the community together and kids out playing, having fun. Really easy to organise with the council (especially as Southwark Living Streets will provide assistance). See attached flyer for more details - there's a meeting for anyone interested to find out more, Monday 25th Feb 7.45-9pm at the Goose Green Centre (next to St John's Church). I'm aware of a few around the area that do this regularly, it would be great to get some more established.

  17. Suggest knocking on your neighbours? doors to spread the word, and try to give as many the link to the online consultation
  18. http://content.tfl.gov.uk/walking-cycling-economic-benefits-summary-pack.pdf I wonder if the LL businesses have considered the points raised here? A lot of positives if customers walk/cycle v drive.

See below quote from Cllr James McAsh from his councillor thread - 2nd Sept 18 ?The consultation will identify what appetite there is for controlled parking in different areas. The consultation area is quite big but the results will not be all-or-nothing. In other words, if controlled parking is popular in some areas but not in others then the former can have controlled parking and the latter not.?

Yes he?d qualify if needs his vehicle to run his business (eg delivery van), doesn?t have anything to do with which borough he lives in. If just to commute here then no, but there are lots of public transport options that run past his shop. Or the station v close too! Don?t be taken in by some LL businesses campaigning it will damage the highstreet, again only 22% travel by car and of those 90% are local. The consultation actually opens up the current 30 mins restricted bays to be stayed in longer (and the first 30 mins remains free!) so shoppers wouldn?t have to rush off. I suspect some vocal business owners overriding concerns are really their own currently convenient parking arrangements if truth be told.

Valid concerns, great points to include in the consultation - maybe request paid only bays near this business. Looking at the plans these spaces are at the very end of the road, not likely to be prime resident spots. In relation to spaces being blocked by parkers phoning to pay for the two hours, I?ve raised this concern to Southwark and was reassured by their response - ?we have found that there are no problems with the systematic abuse of the Pay by Phone system to park within the HH controlled parking zone, nor in the P zone (North Dulwich and Denmark Hill).? This is consistent with what a Dulwich Village councillor said at a recent meeting discussing a CPZ in Dulwich Village (both residents & businesses complain about commuters blocking spaces there). She said they had looked at the data and saw no evidence of it happening.
  22. Deadline extended one week to 7 Feb due to postal delays
  23. This is inaccurate I?m afraid - the consultation includes options for respondents to choose. The options are all day (eg 8.30am-6.30pm), two hours during the day (eg 11am-1pm), part day (eg 10am-2pm) or other (please specify). Worth noting nearby CPZs are two hours long. Parking would be free outside of the controlled hours and the nearest st parking outside of the zone would be 5 mins walk on Goodrich Road after crossing Barry Rd. I can see shared use parking bays within a short walk of no.277 however, on Jenning Road and Thompson Rd, where users get the first half hour free and can extend for ?2.75 an hour if needing to park within the operating hours of the zone. I would suggest feeding back your concerns re patient mobility, perhaps the council would put paid bays closer/more of them.

Well said, couldn?t agree more. Unfortunately we?re all caught up with our busy busy lives trying to cram in as much as possible and the car is currently an easy first choice for those who aren?t aware of the impacts of air pollution. Research released at the end of 2018 shows that for children, living in an area with NO2 above 40.7ugm3 is equivalent to a reduction in lung volume of 5%. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(18)30202-0/fulltext Much worse levels have been recorded than this in East Dulwich! If a CPZ makes drivers think twice about using their cars for short journeys and reduces the amount of cars circling trying find the last remaining space that?s worth paying ?125 (?2.40 equiv per week) for our children to breath less toxic air.

Dulwich Village are starting early discussions re CPZ so I?m guessing it makes sense for Townley Rd to be included within that one. East Dulwich consultation mainly follows the Goose Green ward boundary I think.
