There is a certain joy in owning and driving a classic convertable, it comes from three things 1. The feeling of freedom as the wind gently ruffles your hair and keeps you cool on a hot day (sadly reveresed when stuck in traffic on same hot day and discovering that old cars don't have AC unless the AC is part of their name as in Cobra) 2. The enjoyment of keeping an old car alive and in use on a fairly regular basis 3. (i have to admit) the pose factor as people in modern jelly moulds look on in envy as you 'purr' past them with the hood down whilst they at best have AC on (poluting the world) or at worse have only their windows open a crack Love it so much that I have owned the same classic sports car for over 20 years now and have even stripped her down and rebuilt her once to add to the pleasure of driving her. Got to say that I also love modern convertables providing they were designed as such and not just an option in the range and I too, like LadyGooner, get mad when I see people with their hood up on a lovely sunny day (My friends all have memories of me in my 20's turning up late October on a freezing but sunny day with the hood down and 20 plus layers of clothes on to keep the chill off)

Being a chair on one of the Police Ward Panels (amongst my other hats) can I throw my twopeneth into the discussion on this one. This morning at Peckham station there was one of a series of operations called Operation Blunt by the police aimed at stopping fare evasion. The Reason the police are working with the revenue inspectors and BTP on this operation is two fold. One. Criminals tend to not want to pay to travel to the areas that they are going to commit crime in, therefore by arresting or stopping fare evaders from entering an area (say Peckham or Denmark Hill) then there is a marked decrease in street robbery, general crime and vandalism in the area that day as a result. Two. Criminals tend to use the same weapon for multiple activities, and if they are caught fare evading then the police have a legal reason to search them for drugs and weapons, thus being able to solve other crimes when they find knives or guns on someone, or even better they can stop another crime occuring with that weapon. I used to wonder why so many police to stop fare evasion and the simple fact of the matter is that they aren't worried about the money (even though it is a crime) they are more worried about the sort of person coming into the area who doesn't want to pay for a ticket. I understand that there will be various operations to reduce Crime in Southwark over the next few months, especially with the lead up to Christmas and I for one applaud the police for this kind of operation.

Ah Those were the days when men were men and women were just sex objects to be leared at (I saw the sweeney once so it's not my point of view before I get any comments.) and men being men of the 70's - they didn't have facials, use moisturiser and smoked like a copper :-S which made their skin look so much older then it was Either that or makeup and wardrobe did an amazing job in those days to make young men look old.

WOW East Dulwich must really be getting famous, I have received numerous emails about "ED PROBLEMS" and I am assuming that it must be refering to this website and the problems and issues that it raises..... Far too busy reading the posts on here (and working) to open them to see what problems they are talking about...:-$ What is the most "Intriguing" email title currently being received in East Dulwich ?

Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Fascists Interesting response - take it that you and Jah Lush are smokers then.... I don't make the rules or inforce them but I do appreciate being able to come home from a night out and not smell like an old ashtray As for the driver smoking on the bus, not a good thing as it is used by young children and it just isn't right to make them breath second hand smoke.
-
I think you will find that they are breaking the law if they smoke on the bus as it is part of the Smoke Free England legislation Legally the bus is a public place and as such if you send photos to TfL and the bus garage now have a legal duty to ensurte that the vehicle is kept smokefree If you want to complain to someone else then the following information is from http://www.smokefreeengland.org.uk Smokefree Compliance Line Who do I call if I see someone smoking? If you believe someone is breaking the law by smoking in a smokefree premises or vehicle, we suggest you let a member of staff know as soon as possible so the incident can be dealt with quickly. Members of the public may alternatively call the smokefree compliance line on 0800 587 166 7 to report possible breaches of the law. Your call will be answered by a call centre operator, who will then forward the information to the relevant local councils to follow-up as appropriate. A call to the smokefree compliance line should be approximately 3 minutes long. Information will be emailed to local authorities on a daily basis.

Hi GigGirl Can you explain something to me (and the rest of ED) that is confusing to say the least Ticket Price of ?32.50 Booking Fee of ?3.25 per ticket Transaction fee of ?2.00 per order What is the transaction fee, isn't this what (in the old days) was part of the booking fee ? Who gets the booking fee and the transaction fee (surely not the venue/artist) ? Why does it cost ?3.25 to book a ticket over the internet and if you book multiple tickets it still works out at ?3.25 even though there is still the same amount of processing for 1 ticket as there is for 10 ? I would really love to know the answers to these questions as it seems that there is no explination (from anyone) what all the seperate fees mean !! (PS Not having a go at you or the system - I just would like to understand it!!)

Hi Louisa What car is it ? and where did you break down ? a Head gasket replacement, whilst labour intensive isn't normally more expensive then a 3 year old car is worth... try calling garages near where it is at the moment and getting a quote from them.. you can always courier the keys to them rather then traveling up again in person then go and collect the car when it is ready. Also ring around in this area to get quotes for the head gasket to be replaced... if not to expensive then maybe you can get a freindly local to tow you back from where the car is now (if it isn't still in Derby I guess)

Late entry into the running here Just been to the Montpelier in Choumert Road tonight (after an enjoyable Nunhead and Peckham Rye Community Council meeting!!!) and got to say this place may be a good choice in the pulling stakes at the weekend for both sexes Nicely laid out place, good choice of wine, beer and food (even had my Diet coke served in the bottle - alas no soggy paper straw like when we was kids) and the mostly comprising of friendly female staff that are bound to attract men in for the night thus satisfying HeidiHi's desires (mental not physical I have to add) whilst in the pub Looking forward to seeing how this place pans out at weekends and to see other peoples comments on if is a good place to pull or not (okay so it is a little far out to be classed as ED but....) :)-D

I am suggesting nothing... still based in the vote (did I forget to register again? Did Boris made it as Mayor then ?) will we be seeing you dressed as Windy Miller and Michael as Nigella Marple down at the bishop anytime soon (not that I would pay to see)
-
Please Heidi and Michael - That last set of responses was a bit like reading a personal email... :-$ Can I sugggest just getting a room... preferably next door to the Costume shop and one of you can dress up as Miss Nigella Marple and the other as Wentworth Windy Miller.... ;-) (actually I am most disturbed now thinking about the costumes .... especially the Windy Miller one !!) :'(

It may not reach everyone but if people start to advertise their houses on here and maybe pay a small amount (?to be agreed) upon sale to the admin then the listings can be promoted through google and other websites as pay per click thus resulting in two things 1. People coming to the site to see properties for sale 2. More people reading the threads to see what ED is all about a good thing in my opinion (now I just need to go back and clean up some of my comments !!)

Sounds to me like there are a lot of single people out in ED and maybe (just maybe) someone should organise a night out for them all so that they can all meet, exchange phone numbers and not call each other the following day (or is that a normal forum drink then !!)
-
No... but it does kind of work for him too... now I wonder if he is also waiting for the needle exchange to open as well !!

Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think people who go out with the specific > intention of pulling can look a bit desperate and > that puts people off. Agreed, so take my advice, wear your smelliest clothes and dress like a slob, don't shave for a week (ladies this means you) and forget what draw your deodrant is in, don't wash/shower or clean your teeth for a month... this technique never fails to wow the opposite sex who normally drop in a dead faint at your feet as a result... ;-) As for the best places to pull... everywhere is a good place providing you make good eye contact and flirt a little in my opinion (speaking as a man, if any woman flirts for more then 1 second with most of us then our interst is aroused* instinct takes over and Bob's your cross dressing auntie !!) *Note I said interest not anything else ... so no smut please
