As I > say I'm just curious. > > Interesting reading so far :) A good pair of questions and I will see if I can answer them for you 1. Age related : it is mainly down to the age of some of the people in question and also anyone under 30 won't remember Trisha Yates, Sarah Jane or Mary (either one I fear) 2. Why just men, no reason but based on the interest of this so far I think I will start a seperate one for the ladies soon (oh god I sound like Al Murrey now) ... however there is no reason why women can't add their comments to this discussion, and when I do the one for the ladies, I am sure some men will also comment too. Answering Keef's question about Sarah Jane- I think she is actually in her 50's and not 40's as she was a woman when I was a besotted young boy (not telling who or what I was besotted with mind you) In general, looks like Ros has a good deal of interest thus far, and yes, Betty vs. Wilma is an interesting option, so for the sake of argument I will allow that... but Daphne... no way as she was always hanging around with that MC Fred (who had both her and Velma barking up his trouser legs but seemed to play them both off against each other... what a nasty piece he was...

Oaky after much thought I have come up with a survey for all of the men on the forum who are over 30 (and the age is key to the choices, but I suspect that younger men may also want to vote on this) Simple question, given the choices below, who would you most like take out in a date if they were a real life person (or alive today) and also include your reason why ? a) Grace (from will and grace) b) Ros (from Frasier) c) Wilma (from the Flintstones) d) Rose Tyler (from Dr Who) e) Sarah Jane (Also from Dr Who - old school days) f) Trisha Yates (ahh the old days of Grange Hill) g) Mary (as in virgin) h) Mary (as in something about) No other choices allowed (although I bet someone decides different) My personal choice (as I have started this thread) isn't Wilma (too dominating if you ask me) and has to be (I guess) Ros from Frasier (something about her voice sends shivers down my spine, exactly the same effect I get when Wilma rubs sandpaper on the soles of my feet when she wears that tight dominatrix leopard skin outfit..... ::o)

I had this dilema a few years ago, and did something completely different and out of the norm. I booked a weeks course at Eagle Heights (Eynesford, Kent) to learn all about birds of prey, how to look after them, what to do when they break feathers and most important how to fly them and train them (bait on string either dragged or whirled around depending on what bird you are training) Was an interesting 5 days, and I am not sure if they still do the course that I attended but if they do I would recommend it as it is a) Fascinating b) a real education Got to say would love to take it up as a hobby, and if I do it may well help reduce dog mess or the number of people on Peckham Rye who don't pooper scoop

There is planning permission to develop a small enclave of houses and flats at the back of 38 Barry road, which mayexplain the cement lorries and maybe partly the reason why the vans are on the streets, but it doesn't make it any easier for the residents I have to say.
-
They appear at 8:00am and get driven back into their yard at 5:30pm, so for all intense purposes it looks like they are using residental streets as an extra storage area during the day !! besides Snorky you have just failed to post your comment in the prescribed way (I have also written this on the side of the nearest van...)

Oh the joys of working from home this week... I get to see all that is going on locally... Question, why has Dulwich Van Hire started parking their vans on the streets in and around their offices. Over the past few days I have seen an increase of white vans sporting the DVH logo with 2 on Saturday morning in my road, 4 yeasterday and now 6 parked up in two seperate groups today. Have they not got a depot to go to ? is there something we can do as residents to free up these premium parking spaces without resulting to a CPZ ? this is getting as annoying as the estate agents cars are for residents near LL!!!! Suggestions please posted in the dirt on the side of your nearest white van ?

Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?
LuvPeckham replied to Siduhe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
thanks Torben for the update, however as I own a 36 year old sports car, the concept of adding a heptic throttle just does not work, the design of the car (and may other classics) can not be altered to limit the revs of the engine without some major changes in the engine bay, fitment of a rev limiter or some form of electronic management system. Equally with modern day driving conditions, some classic cars can not support any more electronic additions as their batteries and electrical systems were not designed to take the loads modern day driving puts on them (slow speeds don't allow the batteries to charge fully sometimes resulting in stalling at lights or when stopping, which can be cured by increasing the idle revs but this just adds to the carbon footprint) Also the damn speed bumps keep on grinding the underside of the old girl as she was designed long before speed humps. As such they are a constant pain in my (and her) bottom !!! There has to be a better way to limit speeds on roads, working on design rather then humps or technology. Would be interested to see why councils seem to think humps are the only solution when they cause more problems then they solve. -
Maybe they are a general issue to all politicans to protect them from being stabbed in the back ?

Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?
LuvPeckham replied to Siduhe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live just off the proposed 20MPH zone (and also got a letter), I am already in a 20MPH zone, with speed humps right outside my front door. Result, everyone seems to have upgraded to a 4*4(1) to get over the speed humps at exactly the same speed as before with no enforcemetn by police, council or any other body. Equally when a lorry (of any size) goes past the resulting 'Thump' and vibration can often disturb my beauty Sleep(2) I am in favour of reducing speeds in congested streets, but as pointed out by others Speed humps are not the best way in my personal opinion, equally the zone will need to be enforced and I really can't see council officials doing that, which will stretch our already over burdened SNT and other sections of our local Police force.(3) What is the correct answer, not sure but to misquote The Verve "The Speed humps don't work, they just make it worse" so maybe the consultation needs to go back saying "yes" to the concept but "No" to the execution without a better method. I am fascinated by LozzyLoz's good idea of GPS speed limiters on vehicles, which would be fine for anything made with electronic engine management systems but what about older (and sometime classic) cars that can't be fitted with the technology... would that encourage all the rat runners to buy old cars ? Equally wouldn't it give the government, The Mayor and local councils another way of tracking our movements ? (1) Okay so an exageration - not every car is a 4*4 but they damn well hit the humps like they are (2) I need lots of beauty sleep to enable me to go out without that paper bag on my head... (3) Maybe we should link this to a campaign to grow the size of ED Nick to include a special "20mph" enforcement team ? -
Safety information for our Communities
LuvPeckham replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good advice Peckham Rose, however the local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) advises that they are not a 24 by 7 service and the correct procedure to follow if you spot something suspicious is to always call 999 and if the SNT?s are on duty then they may well be tasked to come out and see what the situation is. The SNT?s are not a response team and as such the use of 999 is the safest route to guaranteeing an answer to the call. Also as a point of clarification, the SNT teams are not linked to the wardens and as such the number you gave out will only contact the SNT if they are on duty at the time. Hope this helps . -

Sigh I miss Snow at Christmas, can everyone please stop using electricity, gas, cars and public transport (and anything else that may contribute to London being warm) between now and next Christmas so that we get snow on Christmas day Where has all the christmas magic gone ?? No more Morecombe and Wise specials, Not even one showing of The Wizard of Oz and shock and horror the only snow I have seen was on Dr Who (did they really kill Kylie off - if so I have 2 now defunct tickets for her in the summer) - also don't remember even seeing White Christmas (dear old Bing) this year... I miss the old fashioned White Christmas, just like the ones I used to know.... -
Hey I am disapointed with this thread Opened it up thinking it was containing new information on the TV series "Life on Mars" and what do I find a bunch of morbid people talking about their funerals and what to do with their ashes.... most disapointed and just before Christmas too..... (actually if anyone has a good idea for ashes then let me know as my father has been under the wardrobe for nearly 5 years now and we still don't know what to do with him....::o )

Is anyone as confused as I am concerning the new series of Spooks on the Jolly old Beeb ? Why are MI5 (internal security) flying all over the world to stop the Iran plot ? Isn't that MI6's role (International Security) in fact, why has MI6 not been mentioned in this series yet ? the last few seasons they were all over MI5 and now they seem to have vanished (spookely so) Has this series lost it's cutting edge ? or have the writers tried something different that just doesn't have the same tension as the previous seasons ? What do you think ED ?

in case readers of this forum don't know, there is currently a plannign application in to replace Banfields Wood Yard (Barry Road) with six three storey buildings http://planningonline.southwarksites.com/AcolNetCGI.exe?ACTION=UNWRAP&RIPSESSION=%7B%5B%2A%211B3B37163D3D352B2218373C7977747C796B6A71681C081E01121F00791C2E213B766000142F262B3C7660001429241E23323C2B2D20261C2A343B36302B33621A3D3B34312B152F3D3437310D0A7C7C7F6A63767479647C0B6367727777%21%2A%5D%7D It would be a shame to loose this useful amenity in East Dulwich and I hope that local people are reveiwing the plannign application

Is your property on on the market with Foxtons Dulwich? (Lounged)

char1ie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They came over to value my house the other day. > 2.5% = ?24,000. For what exactly? From my observations - the 2.5% more then likely pays for them to all sit in the office all day waiting for clients... Every time I walk past there appears to be a mass of them on their computers and no actual customers... now it could (only could I add) be that I walk past at the wrong times of day (this is akin to BR's wrong kind of snow I fear) -
SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > on the whole "Extra Cold" point - pubs and brewers > have been pushing this for ages (for lagers as > well as Guinness) but is it just me or do I not > detect much difference. There is no difference in the actual product sold to you, normal and extra cold come (normally) from the same cask/barrel The only difference is that the Extra Cold stuff is double refrigerated on the way through the pipes, hence the title. Personally on a really hot summers day (much like today !!) I prefer Extra Cold Guinness as it stays cold right down to the bottom of the glass. (slow drinker)

All Bar One is looking for ED home/Franklins organics in LL (Lounged)

That maybe so but we (the Peckham Town Centre people and the Peckham Pubwatch people) would welcome them into SE15 with open arms. Send them my way if they are looking for a space in a town centre near here. -
downsouth Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What a great idea. Let's all campaign to make LL > an alcohol free zone. I have to smile at this posting, and also put some information on the table concening what may be the cause of Brown Paper bags and drinking. Southwark, apart from the Dulwich wards who voted agaisnt the idea, was made an alcohol control zone earlier this year, which means that normal consumption of alcohol (i.e. Picnics, Outside a public house or at festivals and events) will be allowed in the borough, however if a person is seen drinking who has, is or may be about to cause an Anti-Social Behaviour offence, then police officers and some council employees have the right to remove their drink and dispose of it (normally down the nearest drain). I have heard reports from various sources that the street drinking population are now resorting to 'hiding' the alcohol, either in brown paper bags or by pouring it into another container (extra strength Tennants Pepsi-Cola for example)so that they are not seen drinking and therefore have their drink removed from them and disposed of. The idea of Making Lordship Lane part of the scheme was rejected at Community Council (along with the rest of Dulwich) and as such it will be interesting to see if the street drinking population now make East Dulwich their prefered destination. Hope that helps to shed some light on the brown paper bags

What is the least rewarding/most boring job you've had
LuvPeckham replied to atila the gooner's topic in The Lounge
Aparently (and so I have been told by friends at stables) the worst job in the world (and this is not made up) has to go to: Horse Willy Washer :-S (the foreskin can get infected and cause the death of the animal after studding has taken place) I have to say, he/she is someone who's hand I wouldn't like to shake at a dinner party... ::o -
Councillors Support (Peckham) Station Initiative - But will they?

It's the same small lot. > Maurice, it is funny that you say that there are very few in Peckham who care enough to get involved, as a representitive of the trading community from peckham we do get involved with trying to improve the town centre and facilities for everyone. unlike others, we are also interested in debate and welcome peoples opinions (good or bad) on the town centre, without opinions, forums and other forms of feedback we won't know what people like, want and equally don't want. With regard to the station, in principle (and I have to say in principle as it will have ramifications for traders) we welcome the concept of opening up the station forecourt to make it more attractive for visitors, and hopefully it will be partially finded by Ken's 100 squares for London, Southwark Council and other stakeholders in the town centre (who knows maybe partly funded by the tram complimentry measures) We also have a forum on our website (under utilised at the moment and hopefully we can ask people to comment on it as well as here so that we can hear what they are thinking about Peckham Town Centre) As a final (and it amuses me) comment Our much belined friend in the posts above (lone voice) supports opening up the station forecourt, which will result in businesses in front of the station being relocated, yet uses the argument that by putting a tram depot in Peckham town centre businesses will be lost or forced to relocate as a result.... now if that isn't having your cake and eating it I don't know what is.... -
Hey Sonja - don't forget when looking up that in some convertables that you can also see the dirt under the wheel arches of buses and lorries... now that is something I don't always recomend ::o
