    Oxtail soup

Not wanting to make this into a cookery forum but does anyone know where to get Knorr Oxtail soup cubes? used to be able to get them but haven't seen them for many years! This relates to a yummy recipe for a PIE!! Recipe doesn't work without this ingredient!
  6. H I think the point maybe that if appliances are removed from service at any given time only one appliance will be able to go to an incident thereby jeopardising the life of public and crew. A house fire would normally have two appliances reporting. You obviously do not believe this or what a firefighter is telling you, thats up to you. I certinly would not want to put it to the test and hope that the removal of these applliances is not permanent.
  7. I take your point on that! Obviously we aren't privvy to the negotiations that go on and only hear the negatives from both sides. I am sure that this will be resolved and hopefully soon. But I do not think that the remarks and treatment that Mr. Coleman is metering out is helpful to the situation. His complete disreguard is poisoning. Boris hasn't helped matters much either!! Do I hear a more sympathetic tone in your voice DJKQ? I hope so! No one wants a satisfactory resolve in this than the ff's and their families! Can I send you a "I support Firefighters" wristband?? >:D
  8. Exactly right DJKQ, problem is when they are needed they will not be there, 7 days out of 10 they may not be needed but what about the other three days when they are? Someone will pay the price. Yesterday there was a bad incident in Poplar, fire broke out in a block of flats, 10 appliances from 6 different stations, that then leaves short cover in other areas. This happens often but with fewer appliances it will happen more and more. FF's are not opposed to shift changes, they are realisitic and know that work patterns change, the oposition is because they know, and this has been born out, that these sort of cuts will endanger lives. I feel it is not a matter of if but a matter of when!
  9. Pilgrim is right about the standbys. The cover has been reduced on all shifts, mainly because of the removal of the 27 appliances. Some stations that had two appliances now only have one, that means if they are called to an incident, night or day, and it need two appliances then they have to wait for an appliance from another station, this may cause delays depending on how many appliances are in use at that time. If the station had the correct amount of appliances then this wouldn't happen. The reason for the standbys is because there are not enough ff's to cover all shifts in all stations. I think this is correct, I am sure Brum will let us know if I have anything wrong?
  10. H I haven't lost any argument, I am attacking Mr Coleman because he is attacking the firefighters by removing 27 appliances it is in fact a 16% reduction in fire cover. SO if these appliances are removed permanently then 500+ ff's that crew these appliances will lose their jobs which is roughly 10.3% of the workforce. You may ask whether we need these appliances back? I for one really do not want to find out. This reduction will increase the call out time drastically. The strikes were about section 188 but the dispute on the shifts changes were because the ff's new that these were all about cuts in fire cover.

  13. I dont want to start another riot but think this is relevent and confirms what FF's have been saying! http://torytroll.blogspot.com/2010/11/brian-coleman-says-brigade-has-over.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/news/2010/11/08/bereaved-wife-s-rage-at-fire-boss-blunder-in-minute-s-silence-115875-22700817/ This shows the sort of man he is!

    Millwall

Ha Ha I should have explained. A dear friend has passed away and she loved Millwall, her family would llike to find a copy of the song, It would have been the original words stating "we are from the Old Kent Road" She was 92 so it would have been an old old version! I myself have no idea being a Gooner so I bow to your superior knowledge! SO keep it clean peeps!

    Millwall

Does anyone know the original words to the Millwall song? If so where to get a copy?
  19. Well my dear EDites, I suppose this is more or less the end of this topic........ or is it? We will see. I thank you all for taking up this post and was amazed at some of the comments, but as we are all different is stands to reason that the opinions would go the same way. I agree with Iain on most of this. I am gutted that Coleman and Dobson will try and turn this to their advantage when it could all have been avoided with a bit of common sense and good will! See you all after arbitration?
  20. I know DKH is no fireworks but are sparklers for the kids OK?
  21. Nobody takes anything for granted! and I object to your comment that I am not objective. If I think something is wrong I will state it, even if it is against my son. I think the strike for bonfire night is a publicity nightmare! But I support his right to do it. As you say most people are thankful for a job, but most people do not put their lives at risk when they go to work and if they do then they should be afforded some respect and at least the curtesy to be allowed to fight for their jobs.
  22. I have read them MM, both sets of LFB and the FBU. I obviously think that the FBU paper makes sense, you obviously the LFB so we must agree to differ. I am emmotionally involved in this dispute, I have seen the distress that my Son has gone through after a particularly difficult incident, that he goes through when he misses out on the last 5 Christmas's since his son has been born, but he does it because he is dedicated and passionate about his job. He has trained hard and does not object to new working patterns he objects to being sacked because he questions them. He is no different from any other firefighter in this dispute. They all have harrowing stories that the have seen and been involved in. So until you are in their shoes and deal with what they deal with stop spouting about, money, second jobs, sleeping. Its not about those things.
  23. Thank you Brum! Sense prevails, I just wish more would actually speak to Firefighters and get the picture instead of reading the clap trap in the tabloids! I am sure some write on here just to be confrontational. But thats what this forum is for I suppose. Lets hope this is resolved soon.
  24. Ill say it again for those of you who cant grasp it! These strikes are because of the threat to sack. NOT because of changing shifts. NOT because of money pensions or "perks". Money will stay the same. Pensions will stay the same, "perks" whatever they are, will stay the same. The ffs are striking because they believe (and it has been proven on a document leaked from the lfb), that the 12/12 shifts will result in night closures of certain stations. This is FACT. Believe it or not this is the reason for the strikes. Why dont you go to your local fire station and ask them. Instead of believeing everything you hear from the press just ask the people involved.
