  1. We've been down sporadically lately, but, it does go back up quickly for us - and we are on it ALL the time in this house...
  2. How about an anchor restaurant instead? Like attracting an amazing renowned chef to locate here? That would be in keeping with the foodie independent character of the area...
  3. I don't think a waitrose or m&s would eliminate any of the good little shops...most of them fill distinctive niches. I shop at all of them and...Ocado. Ocado would suffer.
  4. One week of wages I've done as well... But only for the best - we've had several...
  5. Otto

  7. Thief caught! Apparently they have been wanting to get him for a while - notorious car thief! Currently locked up and had to give another statement this afternoon to support keeping him locked up...I live neAR melborne grove...
  8. car is knackered though. key no longer works and scratched and cracked...
  9. I do not know what ANPR is, but, basically, the police sent out a description, the license plate was recognized going through the rotherhite tunnel, and, an undercover cop chased him as he fled the car...and then they drove the car back to me. rather amazing.
  10. yes - snowing in ed - reports from other places that got hit first indicate it will continue, and, might be moderately heavy - eg. disruptive to getting home...
  11. yes. I walked out to throw away some trash, looked up, and, watched them drive away. the christmas miracle is - it was recovered in tower hamlets and is back 3 and 1/2 hours later!!! Brilliant job by the police - they were AWESOME.
  12. I've never recovered mine, but, keep your eyes on gumtree...
  13. I think there is a chess club upstairs at the Crown and Greyhound. I must add, I've heard they are VERY serious and VERY good...ask round the pub for details...
  14. Dulwich hamlet junior school closed, Dulwich college Prep open...Prep now closed...
  15. Dcps texted at 130and said they were staying open and were running clubs until the usual times but if you felt you would like to collect early...
  16. Dulwich Hamlet said no consideration of closing as all children are within walking distance...
  17. Just to say - I moved to Ed before it became popular. When we bought our place, it was near enough to the station and ll but not close enough to worry about parking. There were always plenty of spots though difficult on a Sunday due to the church. An occasional weekend evening it would crowd up if a party was at the constitution club. The point repeated here about accepting the luxury of being within walking distance to the station with having parking issues is something I did not have to consider because there was plenty of parking. I am an avid cyclist and rarely use the car but do need it on occasion, and, not the kind of occasions where car club would be helpful (bad weather school runs or sick children school runs or carrying large things home). I do hate cars, and, car dependency. Instead of a cpz or additional bike parking, what about a mini-Boris scheme -- having a few racks of bikes dotted about the further reaches of ed and a big one by the station? If not Boris bikes, they could be their own scheme - Ed bikes. And foxtons could sponsor it as punishment for all those foul little cars...
  18. Alternatively, if more people could be encouraged to cycle to the station - more secure bike lockers, etc that would be even better!
  19. The herne hill 12-2 restriction would work wonders. Is there a cost to residents for this? I'd likely be up for it either way. We were surveyed a number of years ago on this issue when parking was less of an issue. Perhaps it is time for a new survey...
  20. I agree with the parking problem near the station - We usually cycle, but, if I use the car during the weekday it is generally a half-hour hunt. We bought a house near the station and bypassed a bigger house further into Ed for the convenience of not being car dependent. Ah well. In herne hill they have limited hours that prevent people from leaving cars all day - is that something that residents pay for?
  21. Hurrah for clearing snow - yes - as an ex-New Englander it is something I've always done. The advantage to people doing it themselves is it can often be addressed at the time it is easiest to move it - just after it falls, and, before it is packed down with foot traffic. Everyone would voluntarily help the elderly with clearance, and, enterprising young children would often make a bit of pocket money from other houses who chose to hire someone...and, nostalgically, there was a warm bit of neighborhood camaraderie in the morning after a snowfall...
  22. co2 bar tap suspected leak...all fine.
  23. A frog in my back garden this am!
  24. And my neighbours hubcaps were just stolen...they have a VW....the cursed car of ED....
