Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm going to give Wongo's route a try. It doesn't help that I'm not entirely confident driving around London, but I think it's time I tested out a different route! Wongo - do you follow this route even when coming back into London? It's difficult to get the timing right when coming back into London :-S

Thanks Penguin68! That's basically the way I go once I hit the motorway. Do you go the same way as me to get to the M4? I'm wondering whether going through Clapham and over Battersea bridge would be quicker?

Does anyone know a good way to get up north from ED that doesn't include going through the center of London? I go up to Manchester a lot and I'm getting fed up of sitting in traffic for an hour before I can even reach the motorway, so fed up in fact that I'm considering moving to the other side of London. I really really don't want to leave ED and I know there are a fair few northerners in the area so I was wondering if anyone has a better route? My usual way is takes me through Camberwell > Kennington > Vauxhaul Bridge > Embankment > Earls Court etc. to the M4. I know the M1 is probably quicker, but I can't face slogging it through Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner. Any help would be brilliant! Thanks!

It was quite a morning for accidents. We got held up at London Bridge which was closed. It looked particularly nasty with a churned up motorbike lying on the road and the Air Ambulance landing! I'm not sure what it's like now, but we managed to get across the bridge on the East side path, if anyone gets stuck later?

From Southwark: "I can confirmed that the resurfacing required a road closure and the night job was necessitated by the demand of London Transport to minimise traffic disruption. The Area Technician did put out Traffic order on the lamp columns adjoining the area to be resurfaced a week before works commenced on site. But unfortunately no advance notification letter was distributed to the residents due to an oversight." So thanks to London Transport for putting traffic before residents and thanks to Southwark council for not bothering to tell anybody!!

Don't go because it's too out of the way and there are nicer pubs in ED. Does the pub feel inviting from the outside? (Briefly explain) No, run down and shabby Does the pub feel inviting inside? (Briefly explain) No. Too run down, quiet and empty. What changes would make you more likely to use the pub? Probably none. I am not a local. They're better off asking the locals than trying to turn it into a gastro pub that doesn't benefit from the ED location.

The only thing locks are good for is being able to claim on your insurance when your bike gets nicked. You insurer will tell which Sold Secure standard to buy.
