  1. We have been parents at Goose Green School since 2014 and couldn't be happier. The leadership has changed since the last ofsted report so encourage your sister to go and visit if she is interested. The a head teacher, Simon, is usually happy to show people around if they have missed the official school tours.
  2. 6.20pm KO on Monday if anyone wants to dust off their keeper gloves?!
  3. That's great to hear, Martina. See you there! Do introduce yourself so we can chat further.
  4. Our children have attended Goose Green since 2014 and we couldn't be happier. We are really involved in the school community and, by lucky coincidence, I will be helping host the prospective parent teas after the school tour this coming Tuesday at 9am. I couldn't recommend coming on the tour enough - it's the perfect opportunity to meet Simon the Head and chat with current parents. Only then will you get a true feel for the school. Hopefully see you there!
  5. Still looking if there's any keepers out there. 7pm KO this coming Monday.
  6. We play in a Monday night league up at JAGS but have just lost our keeper, so looking for a replacement. If you fancy a regular game in a fairly competitive league, let me know. We're a bunch of early - mid 30 year olds who like to win but also don't take it too seriously. Cheers Simon

  8. Goose Green Primary School now has air purifiers in every classroom. It is so far the only school in Southwark to have done this and has done so with funding from Southwark Council and additional support from Marylebone Services and Suzanne James Catering. Whilst this is not the long-term solution to London's air pollution crisis, Goose Green School recognises the urgency of the issue for young lungs and is putting mitigation measures in place as well as long-term education/policy/behavioural change. See here for more information on the school's air quality measures in general: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/school-information/air-quality-initiatives And this is the recent parent announcement about the air purifiers: https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/viewer?url=/files/school-information/air-quality-initiatives/APU%20parent%20announcement.pdf
  9. Our children go to Goose Green and are really happy there. They are in years 1 and 3 and have both been there since nursery. The school, like most, hasn't been without its ups and downs but the new Headteacher (Simon Wattam) is fantastic and the school's results have shot up since he's been on board. The school joined Communitas Education Trust last year and is now in a small, nurturing trust together with John Donne, an outstanding school in Peckham. Mr Wattam moved from John Donne to Goose Green upon formation of the trust. The school has always been a place where our children feel happy and safe and they have both thrived. We have never encountered any form of bullying. The sense of community is fantastic and the school has an active PTA and numerous great events, including our infamous annual carnival on the green. Unlike many schools, we still have dedicated music and art teachers and the school has a fantastic array of opportunities in this area. Finally, in you're interested in this sort of thing, check out what the school has been up to with its air quality intiatives, including our pioneering "green screen" - https://www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org/school-information/air-quality-initiatives Do pop along to one of the open days. The next one is on the 9th October.
  10. Does anyone know Anna Patterson? I have found something of hers.
  11. Hi there Thanks for your responses. The expense lies in the fact that these are already 2.2m high mature ivy plants, which have been pre-grown in a nursery and will simply be fitted in place. The 87m long fence we need to screen is directly where the children play so we struggle to grow any new saplings (believe me, we've tried) because of flying footballs etc from the playing children. Also, hedgerow saplings etc take years to grow and are very delicate initially. Parents are more than happy to support a project they know the children will benefit from immediately. A pre-grown ivy screen can make as much as a 40% reduction in nitrogen dioxide and 60% in particulate matter as soon as it is installed (e.g the day after fitting, rather than waiting for years for a sapling hedge to mature) and the benefits increase as it thickens. Goose Green has been amazing at green initiatives over the years and these are all making a difference. We wholeheartedly agree that the root cause needs to be addressed and not just the issue. Interestingly, this initiative in itself seems to be enough to get the conversation flowing between families of the school (green routes to school, less driving, neighbourhood greening, joining class actions and lobbying groups for diesel drivers, for example). We are also working with the school and, via the school council, the children/families to discuss why such an initiative is necessary in the first place and what can be done about the root cause. We feel that this conversation/action is all important and we are calling it "Putting the 'Green' into Goose Green". However, in the shorter term, considering the benefit to the current and future children of the school, their families and other local families, we feel that this screen would be a very worthwhile achievement.
  12. ... And teaching children why it is bad so that they have a different attitude going forward.
  13. London's air is not in a good way: https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/shorthand/clean_air/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=MoL_boostedpost2&utm_campaign=GLA_Tcharge&utm_content=Babybottle Here's what we are doing to do to help our kids' school: https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/goosegreen-primary/green-screen-project We have letters of support from some of the most influential people in the area and are being supported by some local businesses but we have not yet hit our target. This project is for all of East Dulwich and we think we'll encourage a wave of such green infrastructure projects as well as, crucially, encourage conversation around what can be done about the root cause. Please get involved if you can. Even a fiver in the pot means a lot to us. If you are a local business interested in sponsorship (advertising opportunity on Grove Vale), please get in touch by PM. Many thanks
  14. We play in a Monday night league up at JAGS but are shortly going to be losing our keeper. We're therefore looking for a replacement. If you fancy a regular game in a fairly competitive league, let me know. We're a bunch of early - mid 30 year olds who like to win but also don't take it too seriously. Cheers Simon
  15. Hi. She lives at number 47. He's not on the forum but he's asked that you pop her back in that direction if you've taken her in please. She's very tame but always comes home usually. Thanks
  16. We're looking for a couple of new players to join our team which plays in a league on Monday nights up at JAGS. We're all in our early-mid 30?s and fairly fit. We like to have a good laugh but at the same time play at a descent level and win as many games as possible. Send me a message if you're interested. Cheers Simon

  19. Found today in hindmans road. No value but might mean something to someone. Please text 07886 978135.
  20. Tried to get my son an appointment first thing this morning. Experienced the usual issues in even getting into the telephone queuing system. When our call was finally answered, we were told that there were no physical appointments or even slots for a triage call back, so essentially, try again tomorrow. This isn't acceptable and the remedial plan is obviously not working. Have emailed NHS England to complain.
  21. Thank you, Moderator. And yes, I agree with the sensible people on this. Let's just call it a day on this thread & stick with internal communication set up by the school, parents or PTA. See you all soon!
  22. Thank you to all of the current parents of the school who have answered my thread and made useful comments. Thank you also for making us prospective parents feel welcome in the school community. To anyone who is on here just to slate a brand new school that they have nothing to do with themselves, your views (whilst you are of course entitled to give them if you really feel you need to) are not helpful. This is because: a) you have nothing to do with the school and so are relying on hearsay and/or your own political views; and b) funnily enough, the parents of pupils who have been offered a place in September do not have much other choice in the matter as East Dulwich is a busy place with lots of kids. We therefore are not shopping around, picking and choosing a school that is perfect in every way. Generally, we are doing what most others around us are doing and sending our children to our local school. If this is such a terrible thing which you feel you need to try and put us off, I'd suggest it is you that has a problem, not the school. Frankly, I think it is a bit weird scouring the forum looking for stuff to make unhelpful negative comments on. I'd have thought people would have better things to do with their time. Like the other people on here, I of course want to hear the negative stuff IF it comes first hand from current or past parents. Otherwise, I'd rather hear how parents are working with the new head to make a great new school. Goodness, who'd have thought such a simple question would lead to such debate!
  23. Thank you to everyone who has posted on here so far - I really appreciate your feedback. We have indeed been offered a place at the Harris Primary and are (as many others are) happy with a few reservations. Our son was at Goose Green nursery so I guess we are concerned about the transition and upheaval. However, given how welcoming and friendly the current parents have already shown themselves to be on this thread, I don't feel that any of us are going to have problems settling into the new community. I am hugely in favour of a get-together in the park. Thank you for making us all feel so welcome.
