  1. Does anyone know what time the water play opens in the morning? Have googled to no avail. Thanks. http://lambethnews.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/fantastic-new-childrens-water-park-opens-in-brockwell-park/
  2. The lights being out is a big danger from a safety pov too. Many of the path users and parents & kids on the way home from school. Due to the bends it's hard to pick anyone out until you're on top of them - I had to slow to a snails pace the other night. Really cyclists shouldn't use the path at night unless they are prepared to go a lot slower - which is easier said than done when one's running scared due to the black-out. Agreed Sumner Road is a good alternative, but be careful if you go straight ahead at the end (as opposed to turning left towards the library), the following area http://goo.gl/maps/epFQI at night has a lot of parked up (occupied) cars and can be a bit edgy. Glad you're okay Jacqui, safe cycling everyone.
  3. whoops - posted twice - can't see how to delete this.
  4. Our wee one lost (or rather tossed) his much loved die-cast Tonka Truck (about 8 cms yellow/blue) somewhere on Peckham Rye between the clockhouse and the cross roads near the Tesco. Please let me know if you found it. Many thanks. A

As far as I could see (was also cycling, but a lot further up the road) he came off near a slow moving or stationary bus, but I don't think that caused the accident. It looked like he either collided with the bin lorry flanking the bus, or possibly a person stepped out in front of him. I heard the noise before looking so missed the split second of the collision.
  6. My son managed to pull one of his shoes off this evening between Bawdale Road and Peckham Rye common. If anyone has found it please could you PM me? Many thanks
  7. @woodland - I cycle from Tottenham Court to Peckham Rye so probably take a similar route. Assuming you ride via Waterloo I can recommend via Kennington / Oval: or skirt the edge of Burgess Park: The Kennington route is all wide roads with buslanes or cycle paths, feels very safe from a traffic pov and an "after dark" pov. The Burgess park route has a few more backstreets and takes longer to learn, but is slightly shorter and less traffic fumes. I included the Barclays cycle route Elephant diversion, personally I ride the roundabout, don't think it's as bad as it looks - but wouldn't want to recommend it to someone who is new to commuting.
  8. @katanita - thanks for posting the map link - can't believe I've been cycling a similar route for 8 years without knowing about the canal path. I shall try it tomorrow morning. If anyone is interested in measuring the route they take exactly eg breakdown of distance / pace / calories / climb / descent I highly recommend the ?runtastic? app (all phone types). Using the app definitely improved my speed over the last few weeks. The feeling that someone is keeping an eye on my time gives extra motivation. It?s also interesting to see which roads appear flat but have a bit of a sneaky gradient!
