  1. Has anyone living around the Bellenden area (Choumert, Bellenden, Danby etc) noticed that there's been twice weekly bin collections on some weeks - Thursday and Saturday - which seems particularly unnecessary in these cash-strapped times?
  2. I use it reasonably regularly at night and have never encountered anyone there. It's better now they cut back some of the bushes at the Ivanhoe end, which means you can see all the way down. You get a nice view across to Canary Wharf from the bridge too.
  3. As is so often the case, all the money in the world can't buy you taste - as the interior in that example shows.
  4. The primary schools around Bellenden end of Peckham seem fine, with reasonable reports about DKH, Bellenden etc (or at least I will find out soon with one on the way). Secondary schools are an issue throughout the area, ED included. I will have to think long and hard about that one in ten years time.
  5. When we were househunting around 18 months ago, you could get a 3 bedder in ED for around 450-500k but they were fairly small, with few having more than backyard sized gardens - or required too much work for our budget. For the same price bracket we eventually settled on one of the streets off Bellenden, which got us a lovely Victorian terrace with three decent sized double bedrooms and a decent sized garden (the big advantage of Peckham over ED) which needed a bit (but not too much) of improvement. We're still only 5-10 mins from the bottom of Lordship Lane - but also have the benefit of Peckham Rye's better train connections / impending East London line. Also - now have the benefit of new pubs, delis, etc etc in the Bellenden area which is an added bonus on the doorstep. Looked at several houses in both Nunhead and Honor Oad. Nunhead victorian terraces tended to be bigger still and have decent gardens - but the longer walk to shopping streets / community hubs was a deal breaker there. Honor Oak had the advantage of a nice little street / centre with cafes etc, but felt more removed from the centre of London - which I accept could be what some people are looking for, but as we were moving from Kennington was probably a step farther than we wanted. The price advantage is also reduced now the East London line is up and running.
  6. Why not 999? If they're genuinely joyriding then that is deserving of a 999 call.
  7. Sounds like it's all blasting off in the Ondine / Marsden / Oglander area - no doubt because they are the most affluent looking properties near to the main transport terminus - and the main roads! When I was a young'un, our family home - a six bedroom victorian semi, in a northern seaside town near to a train station - our place used to be burgled at least a couple of times a year. The point I'm trying to make here is that wealthy looking houses rubbing up against areas with high footfall - especially main roads and rail stations - will always attract the robbers

    Manchester

Yeah - Northern Quarter is where it's at
  9. Shame the Peckham / DMH link is delayed and surprised there hasn't been more fuss about that because it was going to be a key link to East London for the games.
  10. I bought mine from Wickes, which my builder installed. Can't recommend them enough - really good quality, and great fittings on them. Definitely worth a look - much better than equivalents I saw in other DIY / timber places.
  11. Not many of the London Bridge trains are running but the half hourly Sevenoaks to Victoria (stopping at Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill) is running fine and on time. I've used it to go into town and back today.
  12. it's nose to tail in both directions on Grove Vale and the road's like an ice rink. Some atrocious driving - some people just don't know how to compensate for the snow and are still driving bumper to bumper and flying around corners; wheelspinning in first gear etc.
  13. I'm not saying call 999 and they'll send round a black maria with the sirens wailing; but if you do report it to the incident line they should note it down. If others have done likewise then it is more likely to prompt increased patrols / or at least looking out for it.
  14. noticed a lot of split bin bags around recently. If you've had yours done, should report it to the police so at least they can keep more of an eye on the area.
  15. Whereabouts on Bellenden - didn't see anything on the main stretch this morning?
  16. I had an instance just like this. Got a PCN for driving through the bus lane at the top of Rye Lane the week I moved to the area. The PCN went to my old address, as I hadn't yet got round to changing V5 address. First I knew about it was when my other half came home to find the neighbours fending off someone trying to lift my car onto the back of a truck. Turns out these people were baliffs as they'd continued to send PCNs and then baliffs' demands to my old address - after my redirect had run out. Had to pay them about ?550 in total to stop them taking it away - if they had have done it would have been a large amount more per day. Tried to phone to recoup but Southwark Parking said that it had been passed onto Baliffs, and Baliffs said that it was Southwark's fault. Both said should have changed V5 quicker. Gave up in the end! No great advice there, but it's a common situation
  17. Drug deals go on everywhere - from Chelsea, Mayfair and Hampstead, through to Mile End, Harlesden and even East Dulwich. Shock.
  18. Pleased to say that I ignored the front door bell when it rang. Nothing against those who participate, but all a bit too similar to legalised begging, American style, for my liking...
  19. I heard it was going to be a second Iceland
  20. I've heard that there's an Octopus trapped inside and Royal Mail are waiting for a specialist pest control unit to arrive.
  21. I was certainly going to look into it - perhaps a good opportunity of a month's holiday and being out of London when it's packed out. The East London Line extension from Peckham Rye hopefully should be up and running giving a good route that way to East London.
  22. I agree with ImpetuousVrouw. Unfortunately this sort of thing happens occasionally and always has done. Kids hanging around in groups often target people to try and look cool in front of their mates. In Newcastle where I grew up, it was a sort of badge of honour for kids to 'chin a Mister'.
  23. Oh dear. White stuff is bad enough, but Jack Wills surely a step too far. Overpriced preppy wear for uneducated sloaney types who like rugger shirts with collars turned up and Oakley sunglasses on top of their head
  24. It'd be a shame if they remove the old shop frontage - hope that can be incorporated in whatever is being developed.
