Dear Shirley As a concerned tax paying member of East Dulwich, could you please ask members of your constabulary inform me what is the best flavour frappucino on this month? The only reason i ask is i don't have time to go there and try them myself, and your officers seem to be getting through a generous amount of the over priced ice and milk combos, so was hoping you might have some insider info. PS how is the murder investigation in Barry Rd going? Thoughts? -

What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)

Maybe when you or one of your family are shot in the head, it might mean something then? Until that time there is a little trait called empathy you might want to take a large pinch and sniff of. Oh wait. I forgot, because you and your family aren't black, or gang members, it wouldn't happen to you right?? :-S -

Bit of both. Seriously, if they are on "break" then great...i am not a cop and don't knwo what a police break comprises of, but if anyone can illuminate me before i head over there tomorrow looking for trouble and mouthing off about taxes going up in warm milky frothe and cinnamon, i would appreciate it as i don't want to see the business end of a policeman's truncheon again if i can help it. -

Don't even try and turn this into a police bashing thread. I love the cops. I'm just wondering how on earth so many of them seem to be in Starbucks everyday. If they want a break, no problem, is that's what they are doing? Thats what im trying to understand here! Jesus -

Dulwich Fairy you obviously have very good sources as no one knows whether or not this was a black guy shooting this kid. Or are you just assuming it must have been a black guy doing the shooting? -

LOL but seriously - has anyone seen this? I thought initially "ok they are off duty, it's their own time, no problem" but the more i think about it, the more i think "if they are off duty, shouldn't the police vehicles be back with the morning squad?" Something is rotten in Denmark (Hill) and i intend to get to the bottom of it -

WTF is going on? This has been going on for months. Every morning i walk buy and see between 1 and 5 police cars/vans parked up with between 2 and 12 officers sipping lattes in Starbucks in Sainsburys on DKH. If they are off duty, shouldn't they be down the nick with the police vehicles handing them over to the morning shift? I'm getting sorely tempted to bowl in and ask them if this is how my taxes are being spent, when they aren't being used to bail out banks that f**ked up the economy. Anyone else seen this? -

I wouldn't call them lightweights, but it's like, "do you actually know where you live?" It's common sense to me, i guess others don't see that past their frothy latte and sunday brunches at Blue Mountain? -
Yes i agree it's a shame if Ann Summers decides to set up shop in LL. What we REALLY need is a full blown XXX shop, like Harmony (something tasteful, but still does bukkake videos). If anyone from the Harmony chain is reading this, how about a little consultation and feasibility study work?

What i don't get is why so many people on this thread are questioning why and how this sort of thing can happen here. We live in London. We live in SE London. Just because we have a Foxtons, Cafe Nero, popular "village" butchers and fishmongers, and 30 something mothers pushing kids round in Bugaboos does not make this part of London immune to, well, London. Anyone wondering how this can happen here is naive, probably hasn't lived here for long, and probably isn't from London born and bred. Frankly, considering where we live, i'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. Condolences to this kid and his family, if any of them are reading this. -
Well blow me two sheets sideways, and there was me just proclaiming ED had lost it's "edginess"!

Is Burgess Park and Europes largest Latin American carnival on the radar of most East Dulwichians radars?

This could be headsay so take it with a pinch of salt but i heard it was a late 30's Hoxwich yumster who smashed the place up with her Bugaboo because they weren't stocking Bluray copies of Desperately Seeking Susan yet.

Well if the owner doesn't have other business interests/a huge wad of cash sat burning a hole in some offshore account, it really does make the fires of curiousity burn even deeper. That place can't be clearing more than several hundred pounds on a night, which is way more than the cost of keeping it open would be. It boggles the mind.

Ok, this is pure speculation, so anyone thinking about sueing for libel, please direct your attention to my highly paid, sharp dressing and imaginary lawyer. Is the Vale some sort of underworld, money laundering venture? The reason i ask is because i have only been in a handful of times, but pass it frequently and it always seems the same...it exudes a 1980's Costa Del Sol neon nightclub enticement, is never more than at 4% capacity, is staffed with plenty of people, is huge and has obviously had loads of dough thrown at it, has large security men on the door, and is generally a complete mystery both in terms of how it manages to survive, and who ventures in there on a regular basis. My only conclusion is that is a front for some huge underworld connected crime family or local weed house/coke factory boss, who uses it to clean his drug/other nefarious activities money. What do you guys think? It's a complete mystery how that place not only manages to survive, but also seemingly goes under large scale renovation and attracts even less people than it did before the work was done to spruce it up. PS for that guy wanting to know why ED doesn't have a gay night spot - try the Vale, it was full of men by about 12.30pm, which was about 30mins after we got there. All the girls seem to treat the place like they were stuck in a revolving door.

Who, besides Jah Lush, is up for having a few Havana club and cokes with me then?

How did you know? -
Hello one and all!!!! Tonight (being Friday) i'm going out for a few beverages with a few friends in the THE LANE, the street we all know and love. If anyone wants to come and say hello and talk about ED, feel free to tap me on the shoulder. I will be dressed in a Selfridges designer tshirt - not sure which one i'll be wearing yet but it will most likely be a brash neon colour, with a large pointless French word printed across the chest, and look incredibly cheap yet have cost more than most 3rd world workers make in a year. My jeans will look like they were made by a blind one armed alcoholic on acid, but actually have been styled by a young almost-unhead-of-but-heard-of-enough-to-be-commanding-silly-money-on-the-cusp-of-blowing-up-but-still-keeping-it-real Japanese clothes designer prodigy, aged 11 but operating at least to a 17 year old designer level, where each thread was individually hand stitched by pygmyies for good luck. There will be rips around the arse cheek area which exposes some flesh - it's a Hoxton thing meets Dulwich, something we refer to as the "Hoxwich Hangout", it's going to be huge. I will be wearing glasses where the sides have stupidly oversized frames, that look like they have been made from a faux wood/oak material but inactuality they HAVE been mottled from real oak trees which were planted by the indigenous people of Norway and imported as part of a sustainable eco-friendly Fair Trade "no more plastic frames" movement that i started in my spare time, working out of home on my Mac which i bought because it won the "Best Computer for Young Urban Designers" award. I haven't fully decided, but i probably have either a shaved head and 2-3 days of stubble growth with a overly long multi colour striped scarf and cashmere sweater draped Ivy League style over the shoulders, or, dreadlocks and a Jamaican flag colour string vest. As the combo of white people and dreadlocks is going to be the next big thing to hit the area, especially after White Stuff opens up, i thought i might "rock the dreads" and get in there before anyone else. I will also be smoking hemp cigarettes...and i don't mean marijuana because i don't do any drug that costs less than ?40 a gram, i actually mean the cigarette papers that have been imported from French Guyana and they have been made from pressed hemp as it's more sustainable than using paper, apparently. Anyway, although i figure you won't be able to spot me from the other locals, if you do happen to think you see me standing around chatting (i tend to talk quite loudly, so look for the noise as well as the outfit), just "holla at me" and we can have a "swift half" which is apparently South London street twang for "a beer". Look forward to seeing some of you later, ta ta!!!!!!

hahaha 2 left? You have got to be kidding me. I live round the corner from DKH and it is EMPTY. According to the DKH sales site it says every unit is currently available which would tally with the lack of people i see in that monstrosity every day. There is one flat that has some chairs on the balcony and one Ikea bought pot plant stood outside. It looks dead. I wouldn;t be at all surprised if "meimeiloh" was an EA or connected to the development in some way. DKH has a fundamental problem - it is built around one of the worst estates in the area - if anyone is from SE5 you should know the "Dog Kennel Hill" gang that lives around the estates surrounding that area. Pick up the South London Press and you will see them mentioned from time to time. Those "children" you mention are running some serious gang activity. Not all of them, naturally, but there is a well known and defined gang problem in that area. I have had to call the police several times for muggings and beat downs, as well as seen roving gangs of older teenagers to 20 somethings - and when i say gangs i mean in excess of 10-12 people. Trust me, you know there is a problem when police are pulling over Hummers late at night in an area like that, and the hood bird as we commonly refer to the police helicopter buzzes over the estate regularly. As an aside, i have lived in that area, right near DKH for more than 4 years.
