Does your water pressure drop between 7am-9am?

eucalyptus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do you have children of school age using the other > bathroom in the house, perchance? No, we don't have children (i.e. 2 of us in our house), our neighbours on one side have children and on the other don't (couple) on ground/first floor maisonette and one in basement flat. from 7am ish, the water pressure drops so water literally drips out of the shower and sometimes the toilet doesn't fill sufficiently. However during school holidays the water pressure is the same as per 6.30am or evening. But obviously during school holidays not only are children not getting up to go to school but some parents/one parent will also stay at home to look after children so that can reduce number of people using the water considerably. I think it is related to the collective number of people in the local area using the water at the same time; not the number of people in each house -
we had a dead rat in our garden approx 2 weeks ago. I was told it was large but it wasn't the size of a cat. I couldn't even go near it. If I found a dead rat in my drain I would have to find someone (probably pay someone) to remove it..I know my hubbie wouldn't do it!

Hi all Please let me know if you are experiencing this problem? I live on Dunstans road and have been waking up at 6.30am in order to have a decent shower as the pressure drops considerably after 7am during weekdays. During school holidays the water pressure is fine and I can wake up one hour later (which is the time I would like to get up everyday). I eventually called Thames Water and after approximately 5 visits from varying engineers nothing was done, much to my frustration. My neighbour also has the same problem and looking at a few past threads, other people have been affected. My neighbour also told me that there is large underground reservoir closeby and during peak usage Thames water can't pump the water up the hill to our houses! seriously! Looking online it is between brenchley gardens/Mamora/Kelvington area....so close.. Anyway it would be really helpful to know which roads are affected to have an idea of how widescale the problem is. I am keen to sort this out. We experience constant disruption (at least once a month) between Dunstans road, Court lane and LL whenever the roads are dug up by water, gas and whoever else wants to dig it up. I have never done anything like this before and I will do some research into the process but I think I will need to arrange a petition and also get support from James Barber or Tessa Jowell Thanks

Looking to move to SE22...suitable for a shift worker?
bil replied to castleofillusion's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Its fab here...you can get everything you need without leaving East Dulwich if you so desire... If you are going to live near dulwich park on lordship lane then the bus 12 is perfect for you (as mentioned previously). It is a very frequent bus service, for outbound journey you need to walk to Barry road but inbound the bus will literally drop you outside your flat. The journey is not particulaly scenic and I often get frustrated at the lack of speed during Walworth road section. There are a number of buses which take you to Denmark hill or East dulwich station and onwards into central London. Furthermore you can also get the excellent East London Line/overground from forest hill (zone 3)for weekend spitalfields/islington etc visits- loads of great markets, shops, restaurants in those areas The only downside is that the station is not within walking distance and getting to places like Herne hill (gorgeus brockwell park) and Brixton (nearest M&S) is a bit of a mission unless you drive or have a bike/scooter.. If you are single and prefer the social scene you may want to consider living closer to the shops etc i.e. nearer to goose green/the lower end of lorship lane. Good luck -
lol, I have often wondered why there are lollipop men/ladies at traffic light pedestrian crossings. Most of the time they seem to take people across the road when the green man is lit. I see quite a few on my way to work but I they are duplicating the work of the electronic traffic light pedestrian crossing. Do that many people go through red lights and if they do does having a lollipop man actually stop this? No doubt with public sector cuts the numbers will be trimmed to what is necessary. I reckon only needs to be one at the junction of LL and townley road.

Waitrose or M&S TYPE supermarket - do we want one on LL?
bil replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would love to have an M&S simply food closer by, even if it was in a petrol station. We tend to drive to brixton or lewisham ( I have never been to the Walworth road branch)when they have the "?10 meal for two" offers. If there was one in ED there would need to be a little car park e.g. like tesco express near peckham rye. There are so few Waitrose branches in is South east London. Only in Beckenham and Canary wharf, I believe. why is that? anyway i would welcome either but pref M&S. -
i went to lagos in 2007. I didn't like it and i have so many friends there. It was very chaotic, dirty and noisy. The traffic was horrendous. The roads had so many potholes. Food was expensive (on Victoria Island) and not particularly good quality. There are some nice bars and clubs though. If you stay in a hotel, expect to pay more but don't expect exceptional quality. Electricity supply varies so it isn't unusual to have a power cut. Apparently the roads have improved since 2007. take lots of jungle formula, don't forget anti-malarials. Try to get someone to drive you around- hire a driver (not much in the way of public transport) and stick with people you know. It can be very dangerous especially at night. Go to Accra, Ghana instead if you can; much cleaner, friendly people and generally nicer.

every time i have taken the bus 37 from ED grove- i have had to wait min 20 mins, my life is too short! I agree that walking or cycling would be faster.i drove to brixton tonight; there is parking closeby after 5.30pm. i went to buy a pressie in M&S (brixton is the closest one to here) and the food hall was heaving with people buying evening grub. It is so hilly around ED/herne hill and the village; so when (eventually) i do start cycling, my thighs will be lean and fabulous! i have yet to explore brixton but looks like it offers more than peckham for cheap food etc. I shall check out indoor market one day...i assume it is nothing like ED warehouse or brick-lane indoor market

Hi all I have just spent the best part of 30 minutes trying to work out how to get to brixton and or stockwell in one easy bus ride or with as few stops as possible (which adds additional time to the journey). It would take me under 10 minutes to drive to brixton and a little more to get to stockwell. But it will take just over 1 hr by public transport with the number of changes! what a joke! i live near library end and honestly the transport options to anywhere else apart from central london are awful. Even to get to central by bus it takes nearly 1 hr. I have worked out bus P13 to west dulwich and then train to brixton and then tube 1 stop to brixton or bus from brixton to stockwell. Even so the P13 isn't very frequent. There is no direct public journey to herne hill or north dulwich (unless you are fortunate to live in proper/lower ED) despite them being so close by (but still 30mins to walk to, if i walk very fast). West dulwich is in zone 3 anyway which increases costs further. I hope they bring the cycle hire scheme to the deep dark depths of zone 2 East dulwich, brixton, herne hill etc. winge winge... i am going to drive and pay to park....huh!

The East London line is easily obtainable from ED. There are lots of buses to Forest hill and then the journey to the city is fast from there. Telegraph hill is lovely (the SE14 part) i.e. larger houses near the park and hilly fields area in SE4 is also great. There are a few delis, bars and restaurants in Brockley but ED has so much more to offer and I guess that is reflected in the house prices despite ED having relatively poor transport links. On the other side of telegraph hill is New cross road which is not such a pretty sight. I hope your commute gets easier

Can you try to set up a CCTV type cam or neighbourhood stakeout to catch the culprit?

Judge Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The idea was to slow traffic down as they enter > court lane from lordship lane (from the south) - > the remodelling is pretty effective at doing this. Some of the changes were deemed necessary for safety and I am glad that they have been effective. I still don't understand why the north side of the pavement was widened. It is a really very generous walkway now; could probably take 10 or more buggies or wheelchairs. The pavement is quite narrow on the east side of LL (between barry road and Mount Adon)and often requires darting into single file, the west side is better but I don't know why this pavement needed to encroach into the road with subsequent queuing to get out of court lane if you want to turn left down to ED. anyway it is done now... whilst i am at it...the new speed bumps on red post hill are so wide and hard...I can't take this anymore! i started to take the bus to work but my journey is 30 minutes longer and costs more that running my car so I have abandoned this. maybe i should dust off the bike for my commute and pray for safe journeys.

They must make 100s of pounds a day...so many people seem to have been affected. The other thing is that genuine cases (which are rare) are likely to suffer. When i was younger, on two (very separate) occasions i ran out of cash and found myself stuck needing 1 or 2 pounds to get home- i remember one time i was in victoria station and needed to get home to east london. Fortunately someone was kind enough to trust me on both occasions. thanks to good old plastic, i never need worry again.

what have they done! Court lane was closed for maybe 6-8 weeks and reopened a few weeks ago. The pavement on the north side of court lane, at the junction of lordship lane, has been drastically widened i.e. the road has been narrowed. so now if you want to turn left, you have to queue behind all the cars that want to turn right! Lordship lane is busy so the queue can get quite long to get onto LL. Before these changes i could turn left nice and quickly. Ahhhhh is there an abundance of pedestrians who need to wait on this extra pavement to cross the road to the park. whenever i have walked to the park (which is quite often) I did not feel that there was a lack of pavement. was this a necessary spend? the roads in so many areas of ED have pot holes and court lane has been redone approximately 3 times in the last 6 months! Rant over!....for now

went on the London overground train from New Cross today. I was impressed with the train layout. Large carriages with plenty of standing room and still a good number of seating. Nice smooth and fast journey. Looking forward to 23rd may when it comes down to forest hill and ?2011 peckham rye. apparently the carriages are air conditioned which is a bonus. also the carriages are open and linked so you can walk from one end to the other which should avoid overcrowding in one carriage.

Does anyone know if court lane is open again? if it isn't does anyone know when it will? thanks

Bawdy-nan wrote: I think he might have been wondering if you were too young to remember the tories in government ............................................................................................. I do remember the last tory government but didn't really understand what was going on at the time. However, i am a "dividend" of a conservative government financial investment. My parents, both low income working class, applied for a assisted places for both my brother and I. This funded a private school education. Additionally my school awarded me bursaries which helped with costs and allowed me to have additional interests such as learning to play the piano and flute. I was even more fortunate to have teachers willing to go the extra mile and have small group tutorials for A-level preparation for pupils that needed extra help.So i gained the grades to study at medical school. I am now a Dr (contributing tax etc). I had a number of jobs whilst i was at med school and my parents weren't able to offer financial support so i have been paying off debts accumulated whilst studying for many years but it has been worth it. In todays world, I wouldn't have been able to afford to study in med school now (due to fees). Although I would like to think i would have found a way. I am so lucky (and thankful) to have had those opportunities (that so many people with our household income didn't have) because it is almost 99.9% sure that i wouldn't be where i am today if it wasn't for this funding. i wouldn't have aspired to study at university-because where i came from (the schools were awful), that wasn't what people did. No one else in my local area (that i knew) gained good A'levels, went university, entered any profession, with little prospect of earning much. Assisted places were abolished by labour and free university education was abolished by labour obviously with a view to giving every individual the same but fair opportunity for good education including entry to university..except that hasn't happened and now everyone is restricted to schooling in their local area which varies in quality and opportunity... i THINK more people are worse off than before. To be honest i don't know what the solution is. now you know all about me! soon & one day i hope to contribute to give someone the opportunity i had (through creation of bursary /charitable donation) until then will keep on working.

looking at the constituency maps it looks like the most desirable places to live in London (Fulham, Hampstead, barnet, beckenham, bromley, Richmond park-can only dream!) are conservative constituencies. Yes nice large houses and apartments but also great state schools, well kept green spaces, leisure facilities etc...I would be interested to know whether the unemployed and socially disadvantaged in these conservative constituencies fare better or worse (or the same) than equivalent people in labour (the socialists) constituencies in terms of equitable access to healthcare, benefits, decent housing, access to good schools. In this area the access isn't equitable and wealthier generally have access to better services.it may be the same in those constituencies but i was just wondering whether it was so..... although i guess that there are a greater proportion of wealthy people in these conservative constituencies than in islington, dulwich, greenwich, camberwell etc how will we ever know what is possible in dulwich/w norwood if we stick with labour forever! is it the people that make the area or the council ? i hope ED stays under lib dem (please don't let labour take over and destroy us)

i thought the process was quite basic with plenty of room for error. I walked into the polling station, without a polling card, gave my address and name without any ID -which i wasn't expecting (could have easily given my next door neighbours or the details of the 2 people who used to live at my address for whom we also have polling cards). The lady read my number out loud, which another lady wrote down twice, nearly making a mistake each time (bless)-plenty of room for error. one of my voting slips didn't fit completely into the box either (it was probably nearly full). I agree that in the 21st century we should hope to have some form of secure computerised voting option. i usually post my vote but moved here recently and didn't set it up, so this is the first time i have been to a polling station. I went as soon as i returned from work at 8pm but if i had had to queue for 30 mins to 1 hr (after working an 11 hr day) I would have gone mad!

Did anyone get the "polling card" from labour. All you need to do is take the completed card to the polling station All the boxes for the 3 labour councillors and labour MP are all ticked. For a moment I thought it was genuine. I also liked the lib dem letter; handwritten (and then photocopied) letter on blue stationery was a nice change.
