Good point

I waited 20 minutes for the 185 last Thursday ,it was completely full (during rush hour) as were the two buses behind it (176 x2). I got on the fourth bus which wasn't the 185 I wanted but didn't want to chance it. The commuter bus service is heaving with the strain. The same problem exists in Camberwell, with people unable to get on to 2 or 3 buses which are full. We really need adequate alternatives i.e. train, tube. The buses are slow and don't get me started about passing through Camberwell on the way home to ED, where often the bus is stopped because someone decides not to pay. I'm glad that you see the bus as a good travel option, I wish I had your patience. To me it is slow and quite an unpleasant experience. I can't wait until the day I never have to use the bus again (I live in hope; please let it be soon!)
  3. During school term we always experience low pressure between 7-8.30am :-(
  4. so near...yet so far..I was hoping that M&S would be on its way to ED..Thanks for the info.
  5. would be more useful to have the bakerloo line extended to peckham, camberwell green (or even denmark hill!)
  6. My journey to work has already increased by 1 hour (I drive across blackheath to join the A2)..Today i drove into central London and it was a nightmare. Maybe they have re-phased the lights as a fear-inducing mechanism... I must say that it has worked.
  7. This problem isn't all down to residents. The collection/refuse services appear to take little care when they come round. In recent times I have adopted extra boxes, broken lids, missing lids, other peoples bins and lost mine. At one point I called southwark at least once a month to get replacements or request removal. I've stopped bothering as I have more important problems to deal with...overall it's a waste of time and tax-payers money.

  10. If this person is not obstructing a driveway or is not parking in a restricted area e.g disabled bay, red zone etc surely they should be able to do so without this "harassment"- verbal or written. How can anyone leave such a note? Owning a property or residing in a property on a particular road does not give you priority over the public land. I would be irritated if I couldn't park within close proximity to my home; so i wouldn't live close to a station or hospital unless i had access to off street parking. All the people who say "use a bus!" can say it until you are "blue" in the face but the reality is that the bus is crap and people will choose a car as an easier (and cheaper) option. The public transport available in this area is overcrowded, infrequent & slow. Using public transport to visit patients at home can be a nightmare! time that could be spend working is spent waiting or sitting in traffic and there are few routes which are direct. The return journey to see one patient in parts of SE London could take 40-60 minutes. Walking with a trolley to carry equipment is often impractical but sometimes necessary and still time inefficient. Hospitals should have their own cars or a car pool for staff use during the day which are parked on site. So Kings take responsibility for this. They should also encourage staff to share car journeys.
  11. There must be a shortage of GPs. Until earlier this year it was really easy to pre-book an appointment 1 week in advance. In the last month I haven't been able to get one.
  12. my experience is that the service has really deteriorated in the last few months..
  13. I on the other hand have become obsessed by mine. So much so that I now turn my kitchen lights on when absolutely necessary e.g. when I am cooking or washing up(4x halogen bulbs) or use the light from the next room to allow me to see! I can do quite a bit in the dark!
  14. We had a similar experience over Christmas. completely agree with Penguin68 and tarafitness.
  15. ?125 per annum is too much for the residents; I feel sorry for those (that will be) affected. Especially for option A (2 hours per day). Is this a set southwark fee? ?10-30 per annum for residents is more than enough.
  16. call southwark council- select recycling option and they will arrange for some more to be delivered.020 7525 5000. I think you could also request on-line via the website.
  17. Thank you Paulc. I very much like the idea of a GP service and a new primary school onsite. The SELDOC already run from the site and it could be run as a GP led health centre, similar to Lister 8am-8pm with seldoc continuing overnight. It could be a community centre with units leased for social enterprises such as bromley by bow centre http://www.bbbc.org.uk/pages/health-wellbeing.html & http://www.bbbc.org.uk/pages/enterprise.html. I am not sure of the population stats for southwark so would the retirement village be private homes sold on the open market to all retirees or house existing southwark residents only? how many residents would it house? Is the 200 for retired and families combined? There is a great need for retirement homes in the UK. Especially well designed, modern and luxurious homes. Some people may be downsizing and may have lots of disposable income to spend and boost our local economy. The amenities also need to be available e.g. post office , hairdressers, leisure space- good restaurants etc. LL has some of the amenities required and is walking distance and it sounds like there will be amenities on-site too which is essential (a second post office would definintely be needed- LL one is always too busy). The nursery is a good idea. I think attracting some sort of soft play/indoors childrens play amenity could also bring in revenue. would there be any affordable housing for young professionals that want to live and work in London?
  18. I had Steve and Kate over again yesterday. He laid some vinyl tiles on our kitchen floor and did a few other bits and pieces. I am very pleased with the job he did on the floor; very neatly laid and thoughtfully done. They also assembled an ikea bookcase and fixed it to the wall super-quickly too. Steve 07990 904 375
  19. Do we know where the commuters who are parking in these areas live? are they coming from other parts of SE London in zone 2 or zone 3 such as C-palace, sydenham etc or are they local e.g. near dulwich library (still ED but a good distance from the station). there are still a few other stations in zone 2 that are not in CPZ's From dulwich library the buses can be congested and the wait can be 15-30 minutes at times. Factor in the 10-15 ride to ED station or 15-20 mins to denmark hill. Total journey min 20-30 mins to ED station- the time it would take to walk. To drive, park and walk 10 minutes! I would imagine that would take 10-15 mins- car wouldn't even have time to heat up. Its no surprise people drive and park. suggestion??- CPZ from 7-9am mon-fri- only residents and zipcars can park- then southwark help set up a website with zipcar to encourage people to share zip car journeys to the station (very loose idea) .....or just improve the frequency or capacity of bus services across SE London could government encourage employers to support flexible working hours & working from home etc.. i.e. the bigger picture
  20. Reading this (well some of it, the 32 pages will take too long) makes me a little sad. The CPZ's are just putting a plaster on the wound and the underlying issue will continue and affect the neighbouring areas in domino effect. It amazes me that we live in zone 2 London and use our cars so frequently because our alternatives are not suitable. Why do "we" drive to the station and what can be done to reduce it? (CPZ's don't really reduce it, just move it elsewhere). I have friends who live in central and north London who don't have a car or use them infrequently e.g. visiting family because the transport is frequent and for the most part effective. We have a reasonable bus network but it takes 1 hour to get into London by bus (probably half of that journey is static on walworth road). In the real world of Southwark there isn't enough money to address the public transport issues that might really sort out congestion around herne hill, ED, camberwell, Denmark hill, peckham rye, ladywell, lewisham, deptford etc..but some fresh ideas are needed... p.s. reason I said "we" is that I use trains/stations infrequently (thankfully). I drive to work - which is faster and cheaper than taking the train but I also drive when I go out in the evening and go to the shops occasionally.
  21. Thank you Sue for the tip. We are getting our loft insulated for free and are getting a reduced rate for a loft hatch and ladder installation. I have been meaning to sort this out for some time now and this has saved me a good sum of money. Thanks again.
  22. We went to the top of Dawsons hill last night to see in the New Year. We thought we would be the only ones there but there was a grand turnout with sparklers, drinks and general excitement. There was even a family who had set up a little picnic. Anyway the views were incredible with the London eye fireworks being the centrepiece and lots of other firework displays across the rest of the skyline. It's so difficult to describe and give it justice. Just wanted to let you know for next year and the future. our original plans fell through last minute but it was so worth it. Happy New Year :)-D
  23. I've always like that house on the corner opposite the Mag; it has so much character...I hope that nobody was hurt or seriously injured (if the driver was ok what about the people inside the property?)
  24. It is unacceptable that we pay ?45 pcm to Thames water can't have a warm decent shower before we go to work (unless we get up before 7am or go to work after 9am) I complained to the water council today but they were not particularly helpful. I insisted that they log my complaint and give me a reference but they have asked me to write a formal complaint to Thames Water If any of you would like to make a complaint to Thames Water please e-mail [email protected] I have sent my complaint and asked for someone to check my water pressure in the morning. I agree with Oily in that if we make a collective effort, hopefully Thames water will take this seriously. Cheers
  25. Hi, I would also like to recommend Steve (d.g.services) for garden work. He painted our fence, cleared the garden and Ivy at the front of the house. He worked with a colleague Kate and they completed the work within the day and their quote was very reasonable. I will definitely be using them again in the near future. Have a good weekend(tu)
