  1. Southwark cyclists don't speak on behalf of all cyclists. I cycle through the Bellenden one way system every morning and evening, it feels alot busier and less safe since Camberwell Grove was closed. It's subjective, but I feel motorists have become more impatient and Give Way markings less likely to be observed at Chadwick Road and Lyndhurst Grove, perhaps because vehicles have been forced down small residential roads and become frustrated? Even when Camberwell Grove was open to traffic I never felt unsafe cycling along it. I responded that it should be opened, but not sure if my opinion will be noted as I live in SE22 not the immediate vicinity.
  2. I park my bike in my front yard, but have invested in a wall/floor anchor and locks that are "sold secure" gold standard. This link gives a few locks to choose from http://thebestbikelock.com/best-bike-lock/sold-secure-gold-bike-locks/ . I use Abus Granit wall anchor http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/locks/product/review-abus-wba100-ground-anchor-09-35287/ and Abus Granit U lock plus a chain through the front wheel and frame as I've had unsecured wheels stolen in the past. I also cover the bike with a bog standard cycle cover from Evans. It can all add up to nearly ?200 for good quality locks and anchors, but I like my bike and want to keep it, so thought it worth investing.
  3. We get a flock of goldfinches visit to feast on the seeds in our teasels in the back garden. We were going to pull them up, but will keep them from now on. Also been nice to see long tail tits and a grey wagtail in Peckham Rye Park recently.
  4. Yup, my Seat's on there.
  5. My car was broken into on Fellbrigg Road last week. I can only assume they were looking for a sat nav as I'd left the sticky suction cup thing on the windscreen. Glove and other compartments were left open, but luckily I keep nothing in the car. All my CDs were left in my door pockets which probably means I have bad taste in music! Lesson to self, take sticky sat nav thing off the window.
  6. The picture looks like a buzzard. Peregrine's have dark markings on either cheek.
  7. Having used this junction a fair few times over the last few weeks as a cyclist and motorist... The traffic on Townley Road forming two lanes waiting to turn into East Dulwich Grove is impinging on the cycle lane making it harder to get to the Townley Road ASL. The left turn is horrendous in a car and appalling for coaches, who regularly broach the East Dulwich Grove cycling ASL. God help any cyclist caught on the inside on Townley if they haven't made it to the ASL.
  8. I use East Dulwich Grove daily as a cyclist, motorcyclist or car driver. The stretch between Melbourne Grove and Townley Road has never been as unsafe as it is currently. Although it may feel safer to cross at Townley Road junction (I haven't noticed this), there are multiple issues occurring downstream. - The zebra crossing near the hospital now has a constant jam of traffic heading towards Townley Road. This makes traffic driving towards Lordship Lane unable to see pedestrians crossing. Similarly pdestrians using the crossing may not appreciate that there will be fast moving traffic coming in the opposite direction who may not have seen them. Particularly dangerous for schoolchildren. - Cyclists are filtering on the inside of the traffic, even with lorries and the large coaches used to bus in school children. Extremely hazardous in light of large vehicle blind-spots. - Cyclists and motorcyclists are also filtering on the outside of the queue, potentially into oncoming traffic appearing from a blind bend. - Cars are performing u-turns to escape the jam. Not good when combined with cyclists and motorcyclists filtering. - Cars are disgorging their passengers by opening car doors while stationary in the road, again at risk to cyclists and motorcyclists. - Motorists become frustrated when held in a jam for long periods. Frustrated motorists are more likley to make rash decisions or race lights. I can't imagine how the change can be seen as anything other than disastrous.
  9. Service was very patchy at Herne Hill this morning with announcers encouraging passengers to use South Eastern routes. People's frustration wasn't helped by the cordon of revenue protection officers on duty at the platform entrances. Bad timing.
  10. Happy to be more specific. I'm on Fellbrigg Rd. Snowy - thanks for the kind offer. I don't have much of a clue about wheel sizes, and I would normally look at the old wheels to check the size, but they've been nicked. Hopefully wheels are fairly interchangeable, my bike's an old Specialized hybrid. If you drop me a pm I'll happily pick them up.
  11. I had the wheels stolen from my bike which was locked behind my front wall last night between midnight and 7am. The bike can't be seen from the street, so someone must have come into the garden to find it. Looks like there's a sweep of front gardens going on at the moment, with the recent horticultural thefts reported. I deliberately bought a crappy second hand bike so that it wouldn't be attractive to thieves, but looks like it wasn't crappy enough. I've now got to spend time and money getting the wheels replaced. Very depressing.
  12. A friend's box plant in very large pot was stolen from their front garden in Whateley Rd this weekend too. Definitely chain your pots down.
  13. I was very grateful to find the Bike Nation guys down there on Saturday despite the foul weather. They carried out some much needed repairs to 2 bikes I'd been putting off for weeks. I don't think bikes are liable to blow away though. Maybe different if running a food or clothing stall.
  14. If you can make it to Tenterden there is a steam railway that takes you to the wonderful Bodiam Castle. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g503919-d261283-r144556136-Kent_East_Sussex_Railway-Tenterden_Kent_England.html
  15. I thought the opening ceremony was a triumph; felt quite emotional throughout. Not usually a fan of Mr Bean, but loved the Chariots of Fire segment. The Bond sequence even made me feel fond of The Queen which is unusual for me. I was hoping that they'd do something other than the obvious celebrity/sports personality for the the torch lighting, so was chuffed to see up and coming youths do the honours rather than Stephen Redgrave. The torch itself was a masterpiece. Can't wait until next week to visit the olympic park. Only got tickets to handball, which I don't even know the rules for, but at least they'll get me into the park. Huzzah indeed.
  16. slow?
  17. This was discussed on BBC Radio London this morning. I naively had quite an open mind on Southwark Coumcil's intentions until I heard their representative interviewed. They clearly want some kind of CPZ and seem determined to spin the consultation figures to justify it.
  18. Looks like someone has tried to steal the lead flashing off the bay window at the front of my neighbours' house on Fellbrigg Road. It's been left hanging off, so maybe they were disturbed. No idea how you're meant to prevent this type of theft apart from keeping eyes and ears open?
  19. I watched "Scenes From a Teenage Killing" last night and found it incredibly moving. One key point I took from the programe is how wildly inaccurate press reports rapidly become peoples' perception of the truth, hence not always sound basis on which to base opinions. Condolences go out to the family of Daniel.
  20. Pair of Red or Dead glasses found near car park in Dulwich Park on Sun 16th Jan. Would like to re-unite with original owner. Reposting as original thread moved to Classifieds section.
  21. Just driven through Grove Vale. Traffic at a standstill up Dog Kennel Hill. Avoid.
  22. Kingsdale are allowing pupils home from 2:10pm if authorised by parents. No news on tomorrow yet.
  23. The display just off Burbage Road is usually good fun. Details here.
  24. My son and a group of other kingsdale pupils catch the P13 from outside Co-op on lordship lane. They're a friendly bunch, so I'm sure he'll soon get to know other pupils on his travels if he does choose to go via public transport.
  25. Just had a copy of the OFSTED report for Kingsdale through the post. They got Outstanding. Great result for a local state school.
