What brilliant things does your nursery do?
MichelleT replied to Gooders79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Trips out, people to come and talk to the kids (fire brigade etc). -
Anyone know if Kew Gardens is buggy friendly?
MichelleT replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you go in the smaller gates you can take a scooter in. We did, anyway. -
My son had a tongue tie, which wasn't diagnosed til 10 weeks and not sorted for another month, by which time breast feeding just wasn't going to happen. I commented in hospital, when he was having difficulty latching on, that it might be worth checking for TT. I was ignored. I had pretty bad PND and was very upset by what I saw and felt as my failure to breastfeed. So much heartache could be spared for women beating themselves up over these issues if tongue tie checks were automatic.

How to get baby home from hospital?
MichelleT replied to OverTheRainbows's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Took my baby home in a cab in a sling. Kings were a bit weird about it initially, until I pointed out that I could always walk. Then they said it was up to me. -
German Sing and Storytime for Pre-schoolers
MichelleT replied to shintas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just went on the site Shinta but couldn't see where the new sessions will be taking place. My DS had a German nanny and can speak some German so this would be of interest to us, but it sort of depends where the classes will be. He is three, is he too old? -

What to do for the whole day?
MichelleT replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Cheap alternative to the Sanctuary. http://www.spa-london.org/ironmonger-row-baths/ I went with my mum before the refurbishment, it was a bit scruffy, but now looks very sleek. You can use the hammam and plunge pool then lie on a day bed and read a book and even have a little nap, all for ?25 for three hours. If you go to a woman-only session its lovely, totally relaxing. -
Space hoppers - waste of space?
MichelleT replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I loved mine. We used to use them as ponies. I remember setting up jumps in the garden and having show jumping contests. They can always be deflated if not used. -
Dear forumites, My DS will be 4 in July next year, which I feel is a bit young to start school full time in September, so am thinking of sending him part time and keeping him at nursery part time, and gradually increasing the school and reducing the nursery hours. Has anyone else done this? Would love to hear from you?! Thanks, M

Eczema cream that actually works?
MichelleT replied to HollieES's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pure potions skin salvation and pure shea butter both worked on baby T's itchy head. -
Young T, 3, has now been in his own 'big boy bed' for a week. I've been sleeping on the floor in the room, as its a mid-sleeper and I wanted to make sure he didn't try to climb out in the night. Now wondering how to ease my way out of his room and back into mine - any tips?

What meal will your toddler / pre-schooler reliably eat?
MichelleT replied to sarahew's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We do rely on pasta and sausages, but he gets more of a variety of food at nursery and apparently eats everything there! We were also big fans of BLW and he used to eat everything but now at 3 claims not to like anything. Though as that includes juice, strawberries, and the air he bresthes, I ignore him. Other things that usually work are scrambled eggs, salmon, noodles and rice. He recently started eating salad because we called it grass... My Child Won't Eat is a really good book for making you feel better about picky eaters - happy to lend my copy if anyone wants to read it. -
Toddlers - why the Stalin impression?
MichelleT replied to reren's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think its funny. But yes, of course its about control. Imagine being a toddler, literally unable to decide anything for yourself, and constantly told what to do, what to eat, where to sit. They have to take some power back! http://www.whattoexpect.com/toddler/behavior/bossiness.aspx -
I know the minute he chooses to sleep in his bed I will miss him. One step closer to adulthood! Its tiring, but I love waking up first and reading and watching him stir and sit up and say 'hello mummy'. And being able to cuddle him and comfort him at night. I was working full time until recently so I cherished the night time connection.

Young T is still sleeping with me at nearly 3. We used to sidecar his toddler bed, but he likes to sleep pressed up against me, or touching me with his feet. I've decided to let him choose when he's ready to go into his own room - and found this article very encouraging http://sarahockwell-smith.com/2012/11/04/what-rod-our-experience-of-bedsharing-to-age-4/

First plane journey: tips wanted!
MichelleT replied to hernehillisabel's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you are flying with someone else, let them go ahead and board and find seats and get settled. Stay in the departure lounge for as long as possible! Buy some cheap toys and every hour or so produce a new one as a surprise. Load up IPhone or Ipad with favourite tv shows - you can download shows from BBC Iplayer and watch for up to a month - kids apps or bring a dvd player. Snacks and food that you know they will eat. Buy kids headsets if you think you will need as most children don't like the plane ones, though they are fun to play with. Bring a complete change of clothes for the baby and perhaps some spare things for you as well, in case of spillages. And have look forward to your holiday! -
Bugaboo Bee Plus won't fold - any ideas?
MichelleT replied to Lula's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have a spare chassis - a different problem with the handle bar. Would be happy to sell for a tenner for parts if anyone wants, I basically bullied John Lewis into bullying bugaboo into replacing it, as the handle bar lock stopped working. They did so even though it was out of warranty. -

toddler classes-waste of money or worth the cost?
MichelleT replied to knem's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My little boy did really enjoy gymboree, but it was bloody expensive! He never really joined in but loved the climbing and is still very confident, has no fear of heights. -
