  1. Thought this from Sydenham forum's Tim L was pretty good. I read something the other day that said the main reason people left online communities was not because of conflicts, provocative posters, off-topic discussions, spam or technology trouble. It was because they* were no longer interesting. Oh, and whilst I found myself agreeing with Eagle on that particular thread, those with differing views put them across in such a way that meant I wanted to read what they had to say and see things from their perspective. Perhaps rethink my own stance. *not them, their online community. (Yet on EDF they may leave, but often return..)
  2. Blinkeyblonck - I think any stall offering pancakes with a variety of fillings would go down well. Especially if it was placed next to the lovely coffee stall too. Quick (and inexpensive) to produce, and they feel like a treat when someone else makes them for you. In fact, I'm tempted to set up my own stall now :) Best of luck.
  3. Actually, I quite like maxxi's idea about the food stalls all being closely grouped together. Especially as all of the stalls are individual and usually local enterprises. Would like to give a shout to pieintheskyz - zandra who runs it is a breath of fresh air, great to chat with and has lovely home-made, locally sourced produce. More variety and less of the twee-ness(!) may help the market survive.
  4. "Good afternoon" "Could I interest anyone in an e-petition or failing that, we have a very nice line in 'I blame the bankers' t-shirts?" Back on topic though, didn't Horsebox sum it up nicely about sixty five or so posts ago?
  5. Brilliant anecdote about your grandfather. Thought there'd be some comments enquiring what his beef was with said butcher. But no, nothing. Not a sausage.

  7. Is it bad that I find this statement funny every time I attempt to post a butcher-related quip on this thread? And do these crazy people wear wrap-around goggles and sport numerous metal badges on the lapels of their denim waistcoats?
  8. Wheelchair or not, I'd like to see him try to jump the queue at Wm Rose. On a Saturday.
  9. Danted?
  10. Tracey Emin coming out of Londis on Thu eve. But MUCH more annoying to have walked past certain forumites sitting across the road at the Palmerston that very evening ;) (Should've gone to specsavers...)

  12. LadyDeliah, I think your idea is good. Its nice to read something positive and from someone who can offer practical help. I think Peterstorm has hit the nail on the head about getting those that really need help to attend. I think that will be one challenge; getting them to stay will be another. Something like volunteering to help children - and adults - with basic literacy and numeracy would be valuable. This has the added advantage that those teaching and being taught can see progress, which in turn keeps them engaged and gives them very important skills for life. You're spot on about people needing an intellectual outlet, especially for those that the current system is not reaching. Maybe start a new thread for aspiring volunteers and all the ideas etc to help take your project forward?
  13. Did anyone else spot the question to Rick about the 'key factor in terms of quality', immediately following an interest in why Rick made an unnecessary reference to skin colour? I can understand the first part but the question following it? Nope.
  14. Ok Alan. The game's up. Did we make it as far as 73 yet?
  15. There was no interest, believe me, until people started being unnecessarily rude to the response from what is, after all, a local business and someone's livelihood. If I did work there, you'd hate it even more - I think Rolf Harris is great for karaoke :)

No need for facetious remarks, Frankito. I just happened to read this thread yesterday and unfortunately got caught up in responding to (in my opinion, unkind) remarks made by granadaland/Matt after the FHT posted on here. I know that far worse comments about local businesses have been made on here. I think I already said, oooh way back on page 1, that this one didn't seem to be intended to be deliberately malicious in any way and that the FHt likely didn't have knowledge of your usually good humoured posts.
  17. I don't think anyone suggested that either. Not even Pete.
  18. Don't tell me. Karaoke tonight?
  19. Thirded then please. Nope, I didn't say you misrepresented them either. I'm sure you've probably noticed that the way things go on here sometimes a bit of light-hearted moaning and a negative thread title sometimes attracts unwarranted comments against local businesses too, that's all. Edited - reply to Frank.

  21. Frankito, fair enough and I guess the forum has become the place for people to vent their frustrations when things wind them up. I'm also guessing that it'd be good old Admin who takes the flack from angry local businesses about any misrepresentation on here tho. I don't think that everyone realises that some posts are from bots either judging from the way they respond to them, here is a case in point. Now is it too late to second dearest Meds' nomination? He's probably got a rule book about that somewhere too!
  22. Frankito - out of interest, what if the FHT hadn't spotted this thread in the local forum, in the lounge too? They'd never have got your feedback on the noise issue. What do those residents who have yet to discover the forum do? (much like yourself until fairly recently) You seemed surprised that the thread had resurged anyway (thanks to richardbach's comments i would assume as they were the ones that prompted the remarks about riots and 80s music). Uplandsneighbour - I deliberately used the Actress as an example as pretty much any new threads concerning there have been swiftly locked and people told to post under another existing thread (positively titled heading). Or so it seems.
