  1. Try the website and related book The Highly Sensitive Child. It helped us to recognise our son better.
  2. No idea. But I do know David Walliams is doing a reading of his books at the Southbank Innocence festival this year. You should get your son a ticket!
  3. Yes. I meant books of the type I like, set in America. The family thread is often kinder than the others re specifics so I was lax. Will do better next time. Thanks Keston Kid. 4. Ok, have read Peter Swanson - The Kind worth killing as recommended by bellenden belle. It's good. So if you are looking for something akin to the first books I mention, it fits. Lots of lovely recommendations on here but I'm not sure if they are people's fave books or books similar to the sort I like. Regardless it's nice to have a thread about the books we enjoy. Any more recommendations for books like gone e kind worth killing etc much appreciated.
  5. With the unpacking part. Won't they just unpack into say, dIrty kitchen cupboards? How do you get the place clean before the movers come?
  6. Well bb I agree with your summation of girl on a train so I think your recommendation will suit. Thanks!
  7. Failing to find inspiration. Just read Girl in the Read Coat, that was ok. Liked Girl on the Train. Loved Gone Girl. Actually prefer books set in Amaerica, a bit of escapism. Anyone read anything excellent and not too intellectual or depressing recently?
  8. Dad has been subject to a childhood compounding gender stereotypes. So I understand his view. But it's wrong. He should want more for his kid. A colour is a colour. The minute we start linking colours to types of people and differences in their personalities is the minute we open up possibilities to other colour biases.
  9. It really depends on his and your interests. Viator is a fab site for good ideas. Carriage ride in Central Park etc. If he's into movies then maybe, for example a Ghostbusters DVD and promise to visit the fire station. If he likes music, then are there any American bands he likes with links to New York City? Lunch at Empire State? Lunch at Grand Central station? Comedy store, it's a different prospect to those in London. Tickets to ice skating in Central Park. Tickets to the Radio City Xmas Spectacular is an institution there. Tickets to to shows like Jerry springer. Phaidon do good guide books that are cooler and more bespoke than some. Urbandaddy.com is a good local site for ideas.
  10. I promised my 3 yr old an adventure this afternoon but my plans are rained off. Any ideas of something festive or interesting to do at short notice?
  11. the Gruffallo is on at the strand. This website is fab for ideas: http://thehopscotchnewsletter.com/
  12. I just wanted to say Happy Xmas to everyone on here. This thread has been a great entertainment and resource for me. Sometimes forums can be judgy and snipey but this thread seems to rise above and feels like a real community. Happy Xmas everyone, best wishes and good feelings to all. X
  13. If the trees are more expensive, why not buy a cheaper tree from somewhere else and donate some money to charity?
  14. Lol. Quite right. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > yeknomyeknom Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > It's Honour Oak Provender, not Potager. > > > It's Honor Oak, not Honour Oak :)) > > Sorry, couldn't resist .....
  15. It's Honour Oak Provender, not Potager. Tony will have a Provender and a Potager no less.
  16. What is it about Fairlawn do you think? It doesn't look too spectacular from the street with its wonky playground and run down play area. Clearly it is doing a fantastic job. What sets it apart from the rest?
  17. Bump as I too am interested. Where do you do Jolie ronde out of interest?
  18. Wow, Fairlawn is a real standout.
  19. Try M&S online. Organise their gifts by price. Lots of stocking fillers and decent quality.
  20. Not a play group but the cinema does toddler time at 11 on Monday.
  21. Bear grylls adventure books are a tenner for a boxset on book people.
  22. My neighbour doesn't expect a gift. I suspect if she knew I was looking for one for her she would be mortified.
  23. Added some shipmans, bargain.
