Thanks all for the responses. Nobody's been to Madeira? I guess not. I'm looking at flights now. And staring out of the window at the bloody rain! This country is a nightmare weather-wise! Charlie

I thought of starting a campaign to vandalise Foxton's minis. Using a unique method for each car - a la their own individual decoration. Charlie

Hugh Janus used to work in Budgens. Charlie

Expecting a FISH and chips shop to do a veggie option is very east dulwich. Maybe they should do a battered nut roast or deep fried breaded rocket and goats cheese. Or maybe they should just stick to selling fish and chips. Charlie

Trouble is Cannes is 12 degrees in December where the Canaries are 21 degrees. I have a house in Kalamata in Greece (which just survived a near burning in the forest fires) and it gets near to freezing in December and January. And Florida is lovely but there's no airmiles availability at short notice, so southern Europe's where it's at. Charlie

Olleys is the best fish and chip shop in the UK. Salmon and wippies (that's chips as in jockey's whips) does it for me. In fact, as I'm off work and sick (I need to stop going on about it I think) I may pop over there right now. Charlie

I'm ill at home with the man flu. I have some airmiles. December doesn't seem so far away. It's time to book a holiday for some December sun. Any opinions? Madeira? Portugeuse. Rugged. Hot. Tenerife/Gran Canaria/Lanzarote. Spanish. Hot. Tourist infested. Any thoughts? Charlie

Thanks Sean, been busy organising a conference in KL. Lots of longs days. Day off sick today though - throat virus man cold thingy. And as it's pissing down I am lounging at home. If you don't get hold of the Corner on DVD let me know and I'll burn you a DVD here. For PC viewing only but it looks great on my Dell laptop. I'm actually excited about watching a mini-series. My life is much quieter than it used to be. Charlie

On the subject of the Wire I am just downloading The Corner, an HBO mini-series by David Simon (Wire creator). It looks fantastic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz7WhTywUz4 Check it out. I'll write a quick review once I've watched it. Charlie

Love it! But it's a dying breed. I play at the red pub in Farringdon but there's nothing local. Charlie

It's totally out of character with > the area and out of character with anywhere that > isn't 1988. I like Foxton's shop fronts. Instead of loads of crappy postcards with pictures of houses on they have gone for glass, fridges and space. It's a nice look. I don't see how having low moral values is bad for an estate agent. Foxton's can get me ?30k more for my house than any other estate agent. If somebody is prepared to pay that then I might as well go with Foxtons. I can turn a blind eye to a little bit of underhanded dealing. Richard Littlejohn is a twat but if he offered me ?30k extra for my house I'd embrace him and enjoy his company til the deal was done. The housing boom is here. Foxtons are a symptom of it rather than the cause. And as usual what's bad for people not on the property ladder is good for those people that already have a foothold. Can't you just take it out of the cash machines in Europe. Far cheaper and easier. Charlie

I must have missed this. What happened? Charlie

The offer is good for houses sold before end December I think. I don't see what is so bad about Foxtons. It's a place that sells houses. They don't have high moral values and have been known to invent offers to increase rival offers. But then they get you more for your house. Their shop fronts look cool. For someone who thinks that estate agents are evil parasites, Foxtons is just another estate agent. Charlie -

The dishcloth sales boys are a definite fraud. It's the oldest trick in the book. The ID's bollocks and the cloths are way over priced. Con. Call the police. Charlie

Extras is very very funny. And makes you cringe even more than the office. But hilarious in places. And his journey from jobbing extra to creator of pleb tv comedy to national hate figure is a very clever story. It is smart and funny. Charlie

On the subject of recycling, I know it's easy to think that because you stick your coke can, your wine bottle and your newspaper into a blue box outside your house that you are being green. But have you ever investigated what "recycling" actually means? Do you know about the heat and chemicals used to melt your broken wine bottle and reform it into another wine bottle? Do you have a clue about how the paint is stripped from the coke can and what sort of heat is used to melt the can down? Have you thought about the chemicals that are used to bleach newspaper and about the quality of the resulting pulp? Oooh, get me sounding so controversial. But recycling is not necessarily good, or worth doing. Or even green. And sometimes the damage of the recycling process negates the value of the recycling. Just a thought. Charlie

So the general consensus is that the mother and father did it? Or they had an accident, and faked the disappearance? What annoys me is how much press attention they seem to have cultivated. I know appeals for witnesses who may have seen the child are necessary but daily press conferences? Private jets? Audiences with the pope? Appearances on talk shows? And then they have the gall to suggest that they want the press to back off and give them some space. Charlie

Ricky Gervais is a comic genius. Extras is fantastic. I remember him on the 11 o clock show. He was horrible and very funny. I agree that his comic persona is very close to his own. But he is funny. And offensive can be funny. Jose, I've sent you a PM. Charlie

Actually I am a rubbish surfer. I think we mey be going somewhere like that. A load of people that work in a bank going to some themepark thing on a Tuesday night. Should be a laugh. Singapore I like but the last few times I've been there I haven't really gone much further than than KM5 beach bar and the four floors of whores (Orchard Towers). Too busy working to go to the zoo. Another reason to get a big Ford Luton and do it yourself. Doing it yourself is a nightmare but at least it's a nightmare that you control. Charlie

Apparently if you get aerial shots of south east London you can pick out long strips where missing victorian housing indicates where the bombs fell in lines. And yes, the obvious signs now are the fifties and sixties houses sitting in the middle of victorian terraces. Charlie

I'm OK at table tennis and fancy playing a bit more. JAGS has a table or two but I'm not a member. My neighbour has a table in his kitchen but the game is often hampered by a large pillar in one corner. Does anybody have a table and fancy a game? Is there a local club? What are my options? Charlie
