But if you > already use your car only occasionally... I don't > think the argument stands up. xxxxxxxx Fair point, my logic deserted me :-$
  2. There's at least one other thread on the forum about this somewhere. I thought it was supposed to be a "safe house" but who knows.
  3. But Ocado are a grocery delivery service, aren't they, not a shop??
  4. Thanks charliecharlie, I think I will try this first before I go down the noxious chemical route, I'm just concerned about the grubs which are already eating my things, but guess I just have to live with that, not sure what the life cycle is :-$
  5. We've probably crossed paths in there without realising! They don't have frozen broad beans though and the Co-Op do. Hurrah!

Edited to say: Please don't misunderstand me re Iceland, I shop there a lot, it's very good value. But obviously at those prices it's not usually going to be top quality produce if that's what you are after.
  7. That's one small branch which sounds like it's very poorly managed. I could give you examples of Co-ops which are absolutely excellent and well managed, eg several in Oxford which are the only ones I have recent experience of.
  8. Thanks - I don't relish being stuck on a festival site with all my stuff and no way to get home :)) Yes, may still be cheaper, I'll need to do some calculations.
  9. Suppose I was going to a festival. Is it possible to drive the car up there, leave it in the nearest town for someone else to use, then hire it again to drive back? If not, it makes it quite expensive if it's sitting around for four or five days. Re the carsharing, I was seriously considering buying a camper van to share, but none of my family were interested :-S I might investigate a non-family sharing route, but I would be concerned about legal implications and someone doing a runner with the van :-$ Has anyone ever tried a carshare among say six people? Did it work?

If you want offers on things like bog rolls and hot chocolate you go to places like Somerfield/the Co-op. If you think the Co-op is "awful" fair enough, but what do you mean? The Lordship Lane Co-Op (which hasn't actually opened yet), some other Co-Op you know of, the organisation in general, their ethical stance? The quality of their food? The price of their food? The service? Some other reason? Edited to say: And I'm amazed you think Sainsbury's is better value, I've more or less stopped shopping there. Even their cut flowers, which used to last longer than those I bought elsewhere locally, have deteriorated in quality lately. And I agree Iceland is great for things like three for a fiver spare ribs, but if you think that's good meat, words fail me! It's certainly cheap, I grant you!
  11. sophiesofa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue, did the leaflet have an offer as part of it? > I've been thinking of joining up so just want to > check that there isn't an offer on at the mo. > Thanks xxxxxx Can't see an offer, prices given are a fiver an hour (well, ?4.95 :)) ) for a Polo, or ?50 for 24 hours, then it rises via a Golf and 7-seater to ?8.95 an hour for a van, ?80 a day. 30 miles free petrol a day for city driving, unlimited on longer trips, not quite sure what free petrol means, presume you still have to put petrol in but there's no mileage charge? Surely petrol isn't included in the cost? I haven't checked it all out yet. More info at www.streetcar.com There's a parking spot at the end of my road, and I've noticed another one in the next road, so I am quite tempted to try it. I don't know how long in advance you can book for hols etc.. Need to do some arithmetic around costs, but you don't pay tax, insurance or congestion charge and there's 24/7 customer service. My only concern would be those times when you don't really need to drive somewhere but it's much more convenient, and you have your own car sitting outside and just have to get into it!
  12. They were giving out leaflets on Lordship Lane at the weekend. I think it's a great idea, and I'm certainly going to look into the pros and cons of giving up my car. If you can afford to run a car without thinking twice about it, of course, it's probably not very appealing - unless you care about climate change.
  13. The Co-op is great. Ethical, good value, care about their customers. Decent products. Were into Fair Trade for all the right reasons, long before the other supermarkets jumped on the bandwagon because they thought they would lose customers if they didn't. I think this is a really good thing for East Dulwich. We can't all afford M&S and Waitrose, and I'm pretty sure the Co-Op will be a lot better than Somerfield was. Though Somerfield had already begun to improve considerably of late, with Co-op brands appearing on the shelves.
  14. I'm sure I read on the forum a while ago that someone had bought this site?

  16. I bought my granddaughter a slinky but the stairs of her house are too wide for it to slink down, it was very disappointing :-S

  18. Some of Norma Waterson's singing last night - absolutely heart to heart. Best thing I've heard for ages.
  19. And I am listening to FlapJackDavey's choice of music - OK so far apart from one weird track five minutes ago when I was forced to go to the kitchen to get more alcohol. Jon Boden at the moment in his Remnant Kings incarnation. :)-D

  22. If you have any connection with the EDT, you will know why I am unhappy with the EDT. I run www.thegooseisout.com. The EDT asked us to run gigs there, which we did very successfully, then kicked us out with no warning after a few months, leaving us to find a new venue for a gig we had already sold out for. Don't want to rake up old stuff, but you did ask.

  24. Yeh well they allowed sixty seconds at the end of the programme to discuss it, so not much time for anything other than a kneejerk reaction, but I agree with you in general.
