  1. Does anybody on here know lavender27 in real life and could make contact? Lavender a post like that is going to worry a lot of people, if you are able can you post again?
  2. Your link goes to a page that says I can't view it unless I'm in your organisation!

Very nice, but not what I'm after with my roast beef, demode as roasties may be :)

Well, you never had to read the thread or post on it in the first place :)) Got out of bed the wrong side this morning, did you? :))

Jah, it's specifically the roast potatoes I started the thread about. And one of the places on your list is the place I had the crap ones! ETA: Chefs change, so I'm interested in how things are at the moment. At some of those places I've had excellent roasts in the past and let's say less excellent ones recently, quite apart from the roast spuds ......
  8. Sadly, I am highly unlikely to be in either Catford or Penge on a Sunday lunchtime, either ..... Any other recommendations in SE22 or SE15?
  9. intexas, I am not able to collect these leaves now (confined to house) so if you want them, please PM me for address.

    Cassis query!

These blackcurrants were picked in the summer of 2015 and the cassis was started shortly afterwards, so they were in the vodka for more than a year before straining and bottling :) ETA: Sadly my harvest this year was very poor as something got through an unnoticed gap in the netting :(
  12. That makes sense except you'd think, knowing the likely demand, they would get the spuds in the oven earlier. This was 1pm. But I am not a chef, so what would I know! Still. some places seem to manage it somehow?
  13. Crossed posts, RendelHarris, and I agree with you.

Who is "apologising" for the thieves? apb says s/he doesn't think two years is a sufficiently long sentence for stealing a mobile. I think it is probably too long, personally. What is likely to happen is that those thieves will come out of prison both resentful and probably having learned a load more criminal skills, so they can move on from nicking mobiles to burglary and worse. Plus our prisons are overcrowded as it is, and apparently woefully understaffed. Bleeding heart? No, just looking at things rationally. ETA: And obviously I'm sorry for the victims, but I believe the police would advise not to try to get your stuff back. My sister had her hand knifed when holding onto her bag while being mugged, and it could have been a whole lot worse. Plus, whilst the "eye for an eye" approach to justice may be understandable when you or someone you are close to is the victim, thankfully it is not how a civilised justice system works. ETA: And if it's "bleeding heart" to think that we should be looking at why and how individuals become thieves in the first place, and addressing that, rather than branding them all as evil, then so be it, I have a bleeding heart. Which is not to say I don't think they should be punished in some way as well, obviously.
  15. If they don't collect them, I'll take them off your hands.

I'm so sorry, when you originally posted on here I thought the tinnitus reference had something to do with my post! I didn't realise it was something you had rational rage at, hence my bemusement. Apologies, I know tinnitus is a horrible thing to have.

  18. apbremer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So they caught two of them. Both back on the > streets within 2 years. That'll really scare > others. Pathetically soft sentences. I wouldn't steal mobiles if I thought I might get two years inside, would you? I'm not diminishing (wrong word but can't think of the right one) the crime, but it's hardly murder.
  19. I don't necessarily want "good", (ETA: Though I see I did say "good" above!) I just want something that is browned (and by being in an oven, not by being brushed with some weird colouring) and crispy, or even just crispy in parts. Even something that has been deep fried to turn it crispy would be preferable (to me, anyway) to a pale white thing which is scarcely more than boiled :( Thanks for the suggestions, people.
  20. I had an absolutely delicious Sunday roast yesterday. Good portion of tender beef cooked medium rare as ordered, nice gravy, properly cooked veg, etc, EXCEPT the "roast" potatoes were rubbish - scarcely past the parboiled stage and almost completely white, with no crispy bits at all. The last time I had a roast out (at a different place) , the same thing happened, but in that case I sort of expected it - in this case I didn't (and certainly not for nearly sixteen quid :( ) As the meal was mostly very good, including a very delicious pudding, I don't want to name the place. Can anybody recommend anywhere locally where the Sunday roast has consistently good roast potatoes? And preferably where you don't have to book, as usually it's a spur of the moment thing? And yes I did mention it to the waitress, but I've no idea whether it was fed back to the chef (who must surely have known???) I wonder whether it was because it was relatively early (around 1pm) and if we'd been later the potatoes would have been in the oven longer??
  21. Maybe the best people to advise would be those who have actually managed to stay together for years?
  22. How are we supposed to play Pokemon Go !!!!
  23. Well said rendelharris.
