Sue replied to northdulmum's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Is the child OK? It must have been quite frightening. -

It's not a real competition, is it. It's television. Sorry to say I do still watch it, though this may be the last time. It's a tired old formula which they've tweaked a bit over the years but not tweaked enough to rekindle interest. As for X Factor, I have never seen it apart from on Gogglebox. Apart from not wanting to listen to crap music, the sight of Simon Cowell's smug face just turns my stomach :( ETA: Mind you, I'm beginning to feel the same about that woman on The Apprentice. Karen Brady?

On a more positive note than having your stomach removed after drinking a cocktail, I'd like to say how wonderful it is to have both Poundland and Lidl in Peckham. Obviously you have to weed out the rubbish, but I've bought stuff in both places which were absolute bargains. And I bought some great thermal tights in Primark last week, too, three pairs for a fiver :)

Independent cafes with sofas in Dulwich/ Peckham
Sue replied to elliem30's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Flying Pig has a sofa. No idea what their coffee is like though! -
KK you aren't usually such a misery! How do you know why people do things? Maybe it's because they like to have a good time and an excuse to celebrate with their friends and family at the darkest time of the year? My google suggestion was related to your comment about religion, and nothing to do with spending money :)

You can also use Pataks curry paste. Various kinds, and quick and easy. Making an Indian meal from scratch with several different dishes can take a very long time, at least when I do it! Poppadums take a minute in the microwave. Rice, raita, chutney etc all easy. So why eat out? Because it's a nice experience??

KK greenery at this time of year is about the Solstice and the return of light and growth. It's got nothing to do with religious superstition. A bit like Easter eggs. ETA: The Christians hijacked existing festivals and superimposed their own beliefs onto them, so Christmas and Easter were previously celebrating something completely different. Google it :)

Thanks we've sorted it, thanks to Facebook. Someone is kindly lending us one. Phew!!!!!

There are other kinds of Cotoneaster though which have smaller berries? Eg Cotoneaster horizontealis (I think it is) ETA: horizontalis

We quite often have a roast at home, though not usually at lunchtime. But sometimes it's nice to go out and have a walk in the woods or the park and then a meal and a pint and let someone else cook and wash up :) Would be a dull old world if we were all the same, eh Foxy?!

I have a new laptop and most annoyingly it doesn't have a port which is compatible with the Ivy House projector. Although it would have been with the Old Nun's Head projector (which I had to buy an adapter for for my old laptop, grrrrr). I need an HDMI to VGA adapter. Maplins say they only have one kind, and it is ?50!!!! I can get one from Amazon but not sure it would be the right one or would come in time. Does anybody by any remote chance have one I could borrow and try out by Thursday at the latest? It's the last time I can try it out before Sunday, which is when I need it for, as the Ivy House is busy after that. Keeping fingers crossed someone can help! ETA: It has to be compatible with Windows 10. I think. I don't understand these things :(

Two identical first posts? Hmmm.

Raw carrots are really hard. I can't see how you could ball them without cooking them a bit first!

Many people think nothing of spending that sort of money on a Christmas tree, which also only lasts a few weeks (unless it's pot grown and has roots) so I can't see the difference really. And then you have to shell out more money on decorating the tree! Go for it and enjoy it, I'd say. It will bring pleasure to passers by too if it is as beautiful as you say :)

I thought that, but I've never seen a Rowan bush (only trees) and their berries are usually orange. I don't think they are poisonous though, in fact I think you can make jelly from them. Will look it up! Here you go: http://britishfood.about.com/od/recipeindex/r/rowanjelly.htm This recipe does describe Rowan berries as red. Has pics at the end too so you don't poison yourself! But many other trees/bushes have red berries. If the berries are very small, Cotoneaster springs to mind.
