And in the fifties/sixties it was the threat of nuclear war. And then in the forties there were air raids. Of course this is bad, and please don't think I'm diminishing the impact on those affected, but we are lucky we've had quite long periods when there hasn't been something to be terrified of. Soon it will all be irrelevant anyway. Climate change gathers apace, and the US president (God help us) wants to undo all the steps that have been/were to have been taken to try to prevent it. Sorry for my pessimism. ETA: Is it just me who thinks it is odd that you carry your ID papers with you when you go on a killing mission?
  2. The framing shop opposite the Plough is also very helpful, if that's more convenient for you.

Crikey, Burbage, don't bring such common sense into this thread :)) Some posters won't be able to cope with it :))

Happy Christmas to you too :))
  5. Vote with your feet. I don't use Sainsbury's any more unless I absolutely have to. Had very poor customer service regarding a delivery, and have taken my online custom elsewhere and most of my offline as well.

Good for you. I'm usually too chicken to do that.
  8. This thread seems to have slipped down the list ..... I ordered some stuff from Lakeland at half past six last night. I got free overnight delivery and it arrived about 2pm this afternoon (hence the sudden joy, as they said between 12 and 4). It all cost me under three quid because I had various vouchers. I am admiring my lovely green Joseph Joseph non-slip chopping board with integrated knife sharpener, Joseph Joseph Handi-Zest zester/nutmet grater with integrated blade wiper, and lovely green Lakeland pan protectors as I type. (The Value Twelve Cup Bun Tray not so much - but then, it's not green .....)

I think some people are just crap and selfish drivers in any situation, and there seem to be more of them these days. It beggars belief how many people seem to think it's absolutely fine to hold up queues of traffic in both directions whilst they do a U turn or three point turn on a main road, because they can't be bothered to go the short distance to the next side road and turn round there (or go round the block). And red lights might as well not exist for some drivers.

Is it too late to get the wording of the survey amended to make this clearer? I had to leave it to come back to later, though like JW above I answered that question as best I could while saying I didn't understand it!

I'm sure you are really well known to the council as somebody who might object. I'm sure for every consultation they spend hours researching who not to send letters to in case they might object. Lord give me strength, for the second time this morning :))
  13. Pure greed? What a ridiculous post. Club of regular forumites justifying selfishness? Lord give me strength. I've given you the benefit of doubt in the past, Louisa, but it's belatedly very clear to me now that you are a WUM.

Ir may be over fifty years since I did O Level Latin, but that doesn't sound right to me :))

Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You can fill in the on-line survey here - > https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment > -leisure/north-cross-road-market-extension/consult > ation/intro/ Thanks for that. They'll have a load of qualitative data to try to analyse, won't they? I don't understand what this means, can anybody enlighten me? " We are considering releasing five existing parking bays on Fridays, on Northcross Road. Do you think this is a good idea? " What does "releasing" mean? That they are going to allow parking in the bays on Fridays when they previously didn't, or that they are not going to allow parking in the bays on Fridays when they previously did?
  19. Not in London, but this might be of use if you don't already know of it? https://brightonpermaculture.org.uk/ Also https://www.permaculture.org.uk/ And https://www.permaculture.co.uk/
  20. malumbu Wrote: > > What happened to the nice Ghanaian lady who used > to have a stall in Northcross Road doing salads? I have no idea whether she is from Ghana or not, but there is still a lovely lady on a stall in North Cross Road doing delicious salads (and excellent wraps, and other stuff). She is next to the Blackbird Bakery stall. Is that who you mean?

I think they must have cut down their staff. Obviously they don't need so many people now so much banking is done online, but I think they may have gone too far. I do almost all my banking online, but sometimes it is necessary to phone. At least the calls are free ..... HSBC closing in Lordship Lane has been an absolute pain as now if I have stuff to pay in I have to queue at the Post Office :(

  24. I got a letter yesterday. I live in a road off NCR, but not one which would be closed off. The same road as DulwichFox, in fact :) I support the proposed changes even if there are more cars parked in my road. I really like living so close to the Saturday market. The letter says that it is proposed to make about 20 more stalls (in addition to the existing 30). There will be a greater variety of businesses, a focal point for community groups and charities, and creative activities and performances. I think all this sounds great! JW, the letters were just addressed to "The Resident" at each address, so is it possible that somebody else has opened the letter to your address? ETA: "The closing date for receiving views from anyone who lives, works (at) or visits the market is Tuesday 31 January 2017".
  25. The 40 goes from London Bridge to East Dulwich. With the trains in such a mess, I usually get the bus these days. It may take a bit longer once you're on it, but it's better than wondering whether or not you are actually going to be able to get an advertised train .......
