perhaps i'm not posh enough to post on this subject, but i think the bakers opposite mootoo (you know, the one with the blue fascia) does lovely bread. It's always fresh, it lasts two or three days (and if i haven't eaten it by then the ducks in peckham rye love it) and they also do a mean hog roast weekdays! It may not be ?3 a loaf but it sets off my william rose bacon perfectly!

Maybe we should all go down and take a look at the place before we condemn it.

it seems east dulwich doesn't want to embrace peckham - there does seem to be some nimby-ism going on. I think it's good to know what educational / creational resources are out there, in case we can use them at some point. so I have signed. Also, southwark council is most probably only selling it to make more housing in an already over populated and under serviced area. so i say, well done furryjumpergirl for bringing it to our attention.

Hi all Just wanted to let everyone know that the lovely pharmacist who worked in the chemist on Northcross road has now moved to tannas chemist on Lordship Lane (next to Greetings Card shop nr Somerfield). I have no idea who has taken over at North X, but I always found this pharmacist really kind and helpful - he even administered eye drops for me because i was too squeamish. hx

Flower deliveries (outside John Allen flower shop)
nancysmum replied to scotslass's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
maybe the solution would be to move the zebra crossing slightly further up lordship lane? you take your life in your hands anyway when you try to cross there, lorry or not. some drivers obviously think that coming off the roundabount should be done as fast as possible. Also, i have always got my flowers from JA. he is a lovely man amd the people who work in there are really friendly too. okay, not as 'designer' as the one on northcross road, or as pricy as bonnies, but it is a good shop. as for the english flower industry, i didn't think we had the climate for one! hx -
perhaps they are going to repaint it? or replace with a contemporary East Dulwich scene - eg: a breastfeeding mum with a tripple buggy, a chap with a rogue frappacappucino, maybe a foxtons mini being graffitied (we can only hope!)... it would be nice to have the mural back

Hi there I went there today and it was closed...does anyone know when it is open? Or any good alternatives locally? Many thanks. Hx

my partner is great at lateral thinking and has given me an explanation to this with is - to me, very plausable. he thinks that someone who lives near you was probably shopping and dropped the tights. then someone else saw them outside your house, thought they were most prob yours and put them through the letter box!

funnily enough peckham gatecrasher i do have italian connections! and if you have no luck with the donkey you could always substitute with a lactating mother in east dulwich?!

Hi all We are having our carol service on sunday 16th December at 3pm. anyone one wants to come along is more than welcome. it's about 3/4 hour long with readings and carols. I'm also trying to see if we can rustle up some mince pies and mulled wine for afterwards but can't promise that, yet! Merry christmas! hx

Is it me or is it tense in here? - Raylon stationers
nancysmum replied to sprocket's topic in The Lounge
Anybody fancy setting up a rival stationers? I lose the will to live everytime i go in there. It seems that colour photocopying requires a PHD...oh and has anyone experienced the "you can't pay by credit card" thing? You can, depending on who you get to serve you...but the league-of-gentlemen-chap likes hard lucre! -
the green. Nelson in there is really nice and helpful - the rest of them leave a lot to be desired. as for green & blue, i've only eaten there a couple of times but both times it's been okay. hope this helps. hx

I had a birthday party there and they were great. i then went and had a drink there and the waiter brought me something completely different to what i ordered and told me it was my mistake. i then went there with a friend and her child who proceeded to projectile vomit...what goes around, comes around! anyway, they make really horrible coffee there! hx

EDOldie - you talk of the blue plague... is this linked to blue tongue? are cows being exploited? as a newish mum (mine is almost 1) i have followed this thread with interest. I don't think asking for child free areas is too unreasonable, but i do think that tolerance is a virtue that most of us (me included sometimes!) seem to have low reserves of. My partner believes that children should not witness adults drinking alcohol so he would be with the original poster of this thread. He wouldn't allow children in pubs but also he wouldn't allow people to drink in the streets or on bistro style tables on the pavements. He can be quite radical! Personally I think while most parents try to do their best, some have the attitude that its their and their children's right to do as they please and not give a fig for anyone else's need for tranquility. when i am out with my little one, if she gets vocal (and believe me she can be!), i try to distract her with something that will keep her entertained. if that doesn't work, i take her out (not as in american movie "Take her out", rather just take her into the fresh air for a bit). Often children want to be seen and heard, so if mine starts to kick off, i talk to her...not conducive to having an adult conversation with my dining partners, but effective at keeping screaming / shouting to a minimum! God knows what i do once she's able to walk / run / pretend to be an aeroplane! Maybe I should talk to her about reducing carbon emissions?!

Syringe Exchange/Methadone Services: Crystal Palace Rd

I'm with brendan on this one. i think it should be one property, one car. in our road some houses have three or more vehicles, plus their work vans which choke to life at 6am outside my window. not sure how it would work with flats though. Perhaps there should be legislation that any new builds should automatically provide adequate parking - either underground or off-street.
