Let us be clear there is no such thing as Bad Art, nor is there Good Art- there is just Art Whether we follow the oft repeated mantra of those who are the self crowned arbiters of good taste, or we decide for ourselves based on our senses & supposed capacity for individual thought - there is no correct answer. Art can be individual, collective or corporate - and we see more corporate than any other in these torrid times, yet we may not realise it. Further discussion on the internets merely tips us into the sucking vortex of wikipedia / anecdotes / Cut & paste wisdom - and that is not a place we should willingly enter you like it you dont like it you have no opinion these are the only options available

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
huncamunca replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mr Barber PCSO's have been doling out fines and suchlike on Peckham Rye of late, to people who are invariably sitting quietly and having a beer or two . I understand that the Rye is part of the Soutwark controlled drinking zone. I beleive that the CDZ's were introduced to limit aggressive street drinking - having an afternoon beer on the Rye doesnt seem to come under the ethos of the regulation I also understand that ED poper is specifically excluded from the CDZ - so it seems acceptable to drink outside our "vibrant" bars until the early hours and cause all kinds of problems for local residents can you explain this apparent dichotomy - whereby it would seem Southwark is unwilling to take in hand the real and persistant problem of businesses that have utter disregard for the lives of those who have to live within the fallout zone of their destructive money making trade & the rights of adults to consume alchohol sensibly in the wider environment ? -
I love the art room at St Johns and St Clements. Most of the teaching of art is by classroom teachers

Interested to hear why you say the school is failing? SATS results do not define this. Mixed ability intakes and a diversity in home support means that London schools are presented with a very different set of challenges and outcomes. The teaching and environment can still be good. And kids that are well supported at home usually do well at primary level. So is your problem the school or the intake of the school?

Advice on just 4s first trip to the cinema...

We go to the Odeon at Surrey Quays - free parking and seats that don't fold, so your child doesn't get concertina'd. Has a Sat am kids club without membership and all the current kid orientated films -

Hollydale Primary School.... any views please?
huncamunca replied to clux's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used to be a governor at Hollydale and have also worked as a part-time volunteer there. I think it is a lovely school. It has extremely dedicated teachers and support staff. An experienced and supportive senior management team. It's a creative school, with a friendly, down to earth and open approach. -
Could I ask which Orthodontists you have visited? I am going to have to go down this route with my son in a few years and it would be good to know where's recommended and which to avoid

Mr Starmix is that your mum I hear calling your for your supper ? I realise that the summer holidays are long and boring when you only have an xbox, a sock and a copy of razzle for entertainment. Those raging horomes are a beast aren't they? Dont worry though, in time your complexion will clear up and if youe exam results go well, who knows, that private education may even get you into university, where you may be able to get a girlfriend who thinks your fascination with neo-nietzschean supremacism and associated juvenile arrogance is rather endearing.I would tone down the sprinkling of casual drug references in your posts though - they are such a givaway, at least until you have sampled the full range and can speak with some authority. And your mum wouldnt like it either. But I wont tell. Hang in there dear, life may seem a cul de sac of futility and loneliness at the minute, but it will get better I'm sure We are all rooting for you.anyway, chop, chop, your favorite eggy bread and warm milk is waiting downstairs, and if you are good and eat it all up, theres probably a petit filou for dessert. See, its not all bad is it ?

Question: Are you like your mother?
huncamunca replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
All the things I hated my mum saying to me and vowed I would never say to my kids at times just come trotting out of my mouth; 'You'll enjoy it when you get there!', 'Don't talk to me in that whiny voice.' 'If you are bored you can help me with the washing/housework/putting the shopping away/laying the table/tidying up etc...' How frustrating is that? -

The Ofsted was not BAD, it said the school's teaching and management was satisfactory. Since when has satisfaction meant bad?? I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The school is doing Ok with its very mixed intake. If you want a selective school filled with high achievers, you need to consider going private.

I cannot speak for DKH but according to the head at St Johns, the Ofsted inspectors rely heavily on statistical data to write their reports. Applying this, when a school's SATS from the previous year were average, then the inspections are weighted totwards 'satisfactory'. The head's view was that had they come a couple of weeks later when the school knew its current yr 6 sats, which are excellent, then the whole report would have been different. The whole Ofsted thing seems a little daft to me because teaching to the test is criticised for narrowing the curriculum, so St Johns gets a Good for its broad curriculum and is penalised for not teaching to the test!! The upside of the current round of inspections is that it will stop schools resting on the laurels of long-standing good reputations and instead keep rising to new challenges.. Sadly it comes with big downsides of the negative impact on staff morale - and waining of parents' confidence in the school... Ultimately, bright well-supported children do OK at primary level whatever the school.

Not sure what you mean by State nurseries. There is a state nursery school near Dulwich Woods but you need to be in the catchment area. Many of the local schools also have nurseries offering 15 hours per week for children aged 3 and 4. Again catchment area applies and you cannot register them before they are 2, I believe..

Yesterday our bike trailer (a yellow two seater)disappeared from our front garden. If anyone has seen one dumped anywhere or come across someone trying to sell one that doesn't seem like a parent, it could be ours... Also if anyone has actually seen somebody removing one from a garden in Olgander Road, we'd really like to know!
