Hi We are moving to oxted/limpsfield at Easter (very sad to leave here but house prices etc mean it is best) and I just wondered if anyone in here happened to have any tips. We have two boys aged 4 and 2. Specifically, we will be looking for part time childcare (childminder or nanny) if anyone has any recommendations? It's a long shot I know but I thought it was worth a try, hope no-one minds! Thanks Jess

Cranial osteopothy - any recommendations locally?
JessB replied to Widdy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Cranial osteopathy is recommended not to cure a tongue tie but to help loosen the associated muscles, and help the lower jaw move forward if it is recedes as is common. It is a follow up to having the tongue tie cut. I have myself been treated by fabiano da Silva on Barry road, and so have my two babies between the ages of 3-4 months and the second one between 6 weeks and 5 months. each of them treated for different reasons, not just the fact they cried. The results were astounding. I'm not going to go into details because that is not the subject of the post. Fabiano specialises and teaches the masters in paediatric cranial osteopathy. He is amazing. Google his name and his website will come up. I can certainly say that his treatment for my own back and hip problems during pregnancy and after was wonderful and he did a mix of cranial, osteopathy manipulation and dry needling. Anecdotal "evidence" makes the world go round. If I had followed studies and books only for the baby days and my general life then I think that is denying some of the best advice around. Anyway, here's to fabiano! -
question about milk reduction at 1..
JessB replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
With both mine (3 and just 1) I stopped really counting when they turned 1. They both switched to beakers and cows milk - three drinks a day (morning, afternoon and evening) because they both like milk as a drink. I think it's less and less important to keep track of it as they get older, but I'm lucky that mine both seem to enjoy their drinks of milk so I know they're getting a fair bit of calcium etc. I know some who refuse to drink any milk and they are fine especially if they eat plenty of other good stuff. Good luck! -
Have you been to St Faith's Playgroup on a Monday am?
JessB replied to ccollins79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it's pretty relaxed - my two go with their childminder (the group is run by a small group of childminders). Mine are 3 and just 1 and there is plenty to keep them occupied, but yes, as per earlier poster, I think toddlers have the run of the place so an eye on littler ones is probably good. Can get a nice cuppa and biscuit too. -
Cafes with baby areas?? Do they exist?
JessB replied to MOTHERSMEETINGS's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Cafe Provencal in Herne Hill is great - the room at the back has lots of toys and huge windows to watch the traffic at the junction! -
Taking buggy on tube Brixton to Oxford circus.
JessB replied to peppermintpatty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I usually get the train from herne hill to Victoria, step free, and then the 73 bus. Only takes a few minutes and no tube, hooray! -
I have a rose and rebellion sling, very similar to register and beco (but no facing outwards) and it is very comfortable. Merry go round in herne hill stock them if you want to have a look. a bit cheaper than the ergo I think too.

sorry for repetition - tummy bug advice
JessB replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I agree, try a little milk. It's hard when you're still worried about everyone getting enough sleep! but just think of when you're ill.....I certainly manage to sleep fine on empty tummy if have a tummy bug! -
I has this! When baby 2 to 6 months old I kept getting painful lumps and mastitis. There was a little blister too apparently called a bleb! it kept blocking the same duct and was really painful. It did just stop happening when baby was about 6 months old though so there is hope. Well done for carrying on, I totally understand and each time it happened I said that was it and I'd stop as soon as blockage cleared but each time I also hoped it was the last time so I carried on. Good luck. Also make sure bras aren't too tight!

Stokke Tripp Trapp harness - now fixed!
JessB replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our white bits are on the seat and the cushion fits over fine. You just news access to the loop bit to attach the harness. Although we have a fairly old version. Good luck! -
Well, first child was never very excited about food, and still isn't really (now 2.5) and I was definitely concerned with quantities and making sure he had a "proper" meal etc and thus going through several options until he had had a satisfactory number of spoonfuls. Now 1.5 months into weaning No.2 and I decided not to puree very much, and just to offer bits of whatever was going, finger food, on spoon, whatever. He is enjoying it and so am I. I am trying to think of "baby led" in the sense of if he's up for it great, and if he's not I am not going to sweat it. As it happens he is reaching for everything, which is something child No.1 NEVER did. So, I definitely think some are just not that into it and some are. But I do think we can try not to get too stressed about it and be bay led in that sense. Ultimately, if they're hungry, they will probably eat enough and from experience, relaxed mealtimes are more important than getting them to eat too much. 7 month old baby is really showing his big brother up at the moment. and yes, I know it may well not last, but I'm enjoying it while it does. And really enjoying not making purees!!! Hooray! PS I think baby sb is eating really well and a good range and you're only just starting really!

Roaring baby sleeping toddler....
JessB replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi snowboarder We're having sleep issues all round at the moment - toddler wakes most nights screaming I think because molars are growing, and that wakes baby. Baby has cough and that wakes toddler. Grrrr. i stopped feeding baby (6.5months) after his dreamfeed and only feed him once it is vaguely daylight hours (any time between 4.30am and 6.30am at the moment). However, he always wakes during the night and is quite quickly settled on our bed once he's ...erm....released quite a lot of wind. He has taken to solids really well but that hasn't unfortunately altered his sleeping much and in fact I think it is causing more windy problems. Hey ho. Toddler sleep is another matter and will be tackled which I have the energy quite frankly. Perhaps your toddler won't wake if you try not feeding baby but perhaps he will.......but if you try it, say, this weekend when perhaps Mr snowboarder doesn't have work in the morning then he can deal with toddler while you whip baby into shape?? Or at least try to cut one of the feeding to sleeps out as I think just that gives you the confidence that they really aren't hungry. that is assuming he isn't hungry! Perhaps he's ready for some solids so good luck with that! All the best -
Advice on wrapping up a newborn for the outside winter weather
JessB replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Definitely I would recommend getting a snow suit or warm wrap thing and dressing in normal clothes underneath. Shops and cafes tend to be very heated in winter so you need a thick outer layer you can whip off them quite easily when you get inside somewhere, preferably without waking them! Some snowsuits have zips or buttons that go all the way down each leg which is really good as you can unzip and fold back the snow suit when you get somewhere but not necessarily take the whole thing off. Hope that makes sense! Congratulations and good luck! -
I don't feed the baby whilst out and abouy with toddler unless we're with friends, which we usually are and that is carefully arranged by me! 2.5yo runs.about causing mayhem so I have to be on full alert. Luckily he will wear reins or toddler backpack so i can keep a hold while pushing pram and even while he is on the buggyboard in.case he decides just to step off by busy road! Sunray is best enclosed, can see all areas, park I know of. Right thing to ddo fuschia I think Jess
