You have one on Lordship Lane opposite Coop, one at the round about at Goosegreen, one in Herne Hill as mentioned, several in Brixton, several in Sydenham and also Crystal Palace and Peckham...so I think with a fairly short drive/ bus ride you can find a fair few! We are lucky that most of the ones near us are of very good quality. I work for a big charity and know that East Dulwich is a good location for doorstep collections too - you know the plastic bags that get posted through your door and collected by a van! Keep supporting your local shop!

I go with everyone else, it depends a lot on the time of day and also where you are getting the bus from. I get the 12 from Barry Road which means I always get a seat as its one of the first stops. I don't get off until Oxford street which means I get a whole journey to read / doze! It is also considerably cheaper than the train/tube options. However, timings are its downside - if I get the bus at 7.15 I can be at work within an hour, if I leave at 730 its at least 1.30 door to door and 745 is more like 2 hours mostly due to the number of school kids getting on and off the buses and general traffic. Hope that helps, I say try it for a week or two and then decide what suits you best!

Thanks TonyQuinn - I agree with his point that he (I assume its a man) thought I was purely asking what the bus had hit however I originally posted it in the 'general section' so people in East Dulwich would know to avoid the area when travelling to and from Herne Hill and Brixton during the evening. Several of the bus routes were a complete mess making it very hard for my partner to get home....clearly admin thought he knew better.
-
Why has this been moved? Its much more important in the 'general discussion' area as people try and get home or to and from Dulwich.
-
I have just driven from Brixton to East Dulwich and had to divert through Dulwich Village rather than going straight down in to Herne Hill. The police had the road all taped off, a 37 bus was clearly involved but I wondered what more? On a dark, wet night like tonight I do hope it wasn't a cyclist.

Who owns....(The old wood yard on Barry Road)?

This is the response I just got from J Barber in another thread: Hi Anna, Yes, I was told end of January works would start and nothing has happened and it'll soon be April. This is really bugging me. I've asked enforcement officers when they plan to enforce and as soon as I get a response will get back to you. -------------------- Regards [email protected] 07903 964130 Liberal Democrat Councillor for East Dulwich Ward www.jamesbarber.org.uk -

Hello James, Can I please have another update re the wood yard on Barry Road. Last time I asked a bush was cut down - however this was over 2 months ago I believe. It is now again impossible to pass with a push chair on this side of the road. More 'dumpings' have taken place recently which has included piling over in to the road. When does development have to start - or more importantly when does the planning application have to be resubmitted? It is ridiculous now. Thanks. -

Thats next door to my house and its disgusting!! I have complained and complained about it - mostly to J.Barber on here - who keeps saying that basically, the owners - who bought the land from Banfields - about 3 years ago basically cant afford to develop it at the moment. They were told in Jan that they had to tidy the site up, people keep dumping things on it / near it, they had 3 months otherwise the council would do it and then charge them for it but I am yet to see any progress. It is being developed in to 6 houses - not sure where their cars are going to go but hey ho, will fight that battle when it starts! -
What's on for little ones this week?

The church on East Dulwich Grove - think its number 33 or something? Just past the first 37 bus stop from Lordship Lane before you get to the shops opposite the hospital. O I have just found this: http://www.diddidance.com/location.php?id=5 -

Diddidance is on still in East Dulwich Grove most mornings...might be a little much for a 10 month old but you never know! -
If you want someone to pop up to the library for you let me know! I'm a nanny in East Dulwich and more than happy to include your books/DVDs on my 'weekly' run! Think of things you might not have done before - cooking/baking/play dough? Remember too you can always create activities in your garden too - treasure hunts? Put up a tent and play in that? Best of luck!

Can I just point out that by increasing the single yellow lines to double will mean more problems for people living in the surrounding area - where will people now park? Hillsborough Road? Dovercourt? Carlton Avenue? I simply think you are replacing one problem with another - potentially a bigger one. -
Concrete House Lordship Lane - Public Inquiry
*Anna* replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I remember actually that about 5-7 years ago some work was done - I heard, whilst living nearby, that the house had so many more problems that visible from the road that it wasnt worth pouring the money in. I think they even built a second smaller house on the far side of the house (From LL) which they were going to inhabit whilst rebuilding. Very sad if you ask me...could be such a beautiful house with a lot of history in and no doubt will be knocked down for modern flats to be built. -
Any suggestions? We have Diddy Dance booked for Wednesday and Tin Pan Annie for Thursday but something for tomorrow would be great. Im only looking after this little girl for 1 week you see! Thanks

Can I ask if there has been any discussion/progression re the junction at Peckham Rye/East Dulwich yet? I appreciate it may take a while to organise something permanent in to place but I really do think this is a matter of urgency or another life - young or old - will be taken. -
This is from the Met: Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the death of a 10 yr old girl in a road traffic collision in East Dulwich. Police were called at approx 0800hrs to reports of a lorry in collision with a child on East Dulwich Road, jct with Peckham Rye, SE22. Officers and LAS attended and discovered a girl, aged 10, suffering injuries. She was taken to Kings College Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 0844hrs.She has been identified as Latoya Smith aged 10 from SE27. A formal identification has taken place and next of kin have been informed. A date for a post mortem examination is to be decided. A man, aged 44, was arrested at the scene and has been taken to a south London police station. Enquiries continue. Sergeant Simon Seeley, from the MPS Traffic Collision Investigation Unit said:?This incident happened at a busy time and lots of people will have witnessed this terrible tragedy. It is crucial that we establish the events that led up to this young child?s death and we appeal for anyone who saw this collision to get in touch. In particular, there were several people at a bus stop at the location, who kindly rushed to the assistance of the child before the ambulance arrived, we would very much like to speak to all of them.? Anyone with information is to contact Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage on 020 8285 1574.

I hope you have already heard the awful news about another child death on the junction of Peckham Rye and East Dulwich at 8.30am this morning. This is not the first and will definitely not be the last unless something is done. At the moment the situation is worsened with the awful road works - which many people on here have been complaining about - but even when gone this junction is chaotic. Please can potential solutions here be discussed whether it be new traffic light timings, a lollipop lady or a pedestrian bridge! This is urgent. -

Sorry SillyWoman I should have added on all routes - im not sure how many there are now - there is a 4pm coach and then some routes at 5.30pm... I agree with womanofdulwich too - if parents didn't park in the coach bays/on corner of Carlton Avenue or so close to the junctions/gates or stop to let their children out at inappropriate places the problem would be decreased considerably i'm sure. These coaches offer a fantastic service to both parents, pupils and the school - they are (in most cases) great staff who always go the extra mile to make sure pupils get to and from school safely. Please note - before everyone shouts at me - I am not saying there is no problem, Im just pointing it out it is not purely the coach drivers who are at fault. -

DonGee you are correct - bringing pupils to and from the school daily - most do a rota with JAGS and DC too. There is a 4pm coach and a much quieter 5.30pm coach in the evenings. -

What did the school say? I have always found them to be very helpful with things like this. -
I am interested in doing a simple massage course - maybe just one day or one day for several weeks. I dont have loads of money to spare but would be interested in hearing from anyone offering this kind of thing. Thanks!

Sue, a very similar situation arose in the house next to me a few years back. Just heading out to meet friends for dinner and suddenly a man with a big gun was pointing at me shouting 'Get in, get in!' Turned out my neighbours had been dealing drugs and they were doing a Southwark wide bust - hence the silence arrivals, immediate armed action etc. Atleast they are doing something other than standing at the train station!
