  2. What exactly have the police done to date? Sounds like they caught him red handed, have plenty of evidence that connects him with a multitude of break ins and ASB yet no action is taken. Have Southwark referred this to the Community Safety Partnership team? If not then maybe James Barber is best placed to submit an urgent request for action. The hostel has a responsibility to be a good neighbour as well as ensure the occupants are receiving the right care and support. That's why the owners of the hostels receive generous payments per vulnerable adult. It's a growing, lucrative industry and the more vulnerable the adult the greater the contribution by the tax payer to the hostel owner.
  3. "Internally the accommodation is arranged as a number of interconnected rooms with associated WC facilities." Nice.

I prefer Crystal Palace Park over Dulwich Park these day as it is more user friendly, there are no restricted areas and dogs are welcome. You're right about it being a beautiful park, I love the dramatic landscapes, views, unmanicured planting, long established trees, wooded areas and the bats. I understand that those who are excited about the idea of having a shopping mall on the hill hardly use the park and think it is too big, shabby and neglected, whereas those who do not support this proposal see it as a much loved and used asset. Still this topic probably requires a separate thread. Back to the OP!

I would advocate the crushing of their Lycra clad nuts, the blame is with the owner not the bike. However as part of a punishment strategy the cycle thugs should be made to ride trikes and swap Lycra for hooded onesies with fun ears and bunny tails for a period of time decided by their victims. Edited to add: cycling on pavements - just say NO.

  7. So now we got all the shop talk out the way, is EmED for real or is EmED a GLA/ZhongRong stooge sent to stalk the local forums and plant the seed of need. Q.What does ED really need? A. A new mall full of real shops for real people - if only that could be a reality... *Two weeks later* Our dreams have been answered there is a planning application to build 900,000 sqft of mall on the top of Crystal Palace Park. People of ED this is exactly what you all want, get behind it and be grateful to Borris' billionaire investor. Don't think about the loss of public amentity, don't dwell on the impact on ED roads and environment, to hell with all that, just think about the shopping and the price tag kerching, kerching, ching! There's another tune this brings to mine - it's called Big Yellow Taxi.

The OP did not want to know how to get to Bluewater and Westfield, the question was is there a shopping mall or proper high street in the area. Here's a reminder, "This sounds random but I have moved to ED from somewhere with a lot of local high street shops, and wondered where people recommend as the closest place to go for general high street stuff like boots, topshop, h&m, zara, or even a department store like debenhams etc...it would be great if there was a small mall or highstreet close by somewhere with this kind of thing when you want to do a bit of shopping at the weekend without going to oxford street or westfield?" EmED where did you used to live?
  10. Well OK, let's say the OP is genuine (and not an attempt to get you all thinking there is a real need for a local shopping mall prior to the submission of a planning application to build one on a public park just up the road from here) I would say if you're after homogenous highstreet experience and don't want to travel far then Bromley is best. There are all the usual high street suspects and plenty of parking. The mall is no longer called The Glades, more info here http://intu.co.uk/bromley/centre-information Easy journey from ED to Bromley at the moment but that will change if Boris flogs the top of Crystal Palace Park to ZhongRong Holdings - the daily traffic impact of the ZhongRong Centre's deliveries, services and staff will overwhelm local single lane routes and dont forget to add the thousands of daily visitors the centre needs to attract to turn a profit for its shareholders. Of course happy shoppers will be delighted to know that Westfield are coming to town, Croydon, that is and no parks or green spaces will be destroyed during it's construction. Westfield Croydon is expected to be ready by 2017. "DEVELOPERS behind the ?1 billion revamp of the Whitgift Centre have started negotiations with more than 200 businesses who will be uprooted to make way for the scheme. The Westfield/Hammerson Partnership has already lodged its formal application for the redevelopment, which includes 1.4 million square feet of shops as well as leisure facilities and housing." http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/Westfield-s-milestone-announcement-Whitgift/story-19561984-detail/story.html

StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not sure I'm believing the op is as on the level It would not surprise me if hands and brain behind the OP are something to do with the announcement by Boris and Bromley of their intention to sell the hilltop of Crystal Palace Park to billionaire Chinese developer and oilman Mr Ni Zhaoxing. Mr Z, and his company ZhongRong Holdings, would like to make a replica Palace and fill it with exactly what the OP feels is missing locally, a sort of Glades on steroids. Much cosying up behind the scenes at Westminster and City Hall has already taken place and Borris is smitten with this idea, as is the Prime Minister both of whom are off to China to secure future investement for UK super sewers and nuclear reactors. www.ft.com/cms/s/0/bf1a1702-1c93-11e3-a8a3-00144feab7de.html This colossal building will be visible from miles away and is expected to attract thousands of daily visitors. Only problem is the feeder routes to this, of which LL, College and Croxted Roads make up the Northern approach, struggle to cope with existing traffic demand during peak times. A planning application is expected to be submitted in a few weeks but lots of talk about global attraction, the need for a shopping mall and exhibition centre to replace Earsl Court. http://londonist.com/2013/07/crystal-palace-could-be-rebuilt-by-chinese.php
  12. The on-street parking survey submitted to support this application was stunning! The agents claimed to have walked around targeted residential roads from 9am till midday on Sunday 12th July counting up all the empty car parking spaces, without any pictorial evidence to back up the survey, they then went on to claim that those spaces would be used as free parking for their client's congregation every Sunday, Saturday and Tuesday evenings. The Transport Assessment predicted the number of cars for a 600 strong congregation would be 45, now that's a lot of people per car. Also the other services and events run by the church are planned for different days and times yet their agent uses data from a Sunday morning survey (everyone knows early Sunday Morning is the quietest part of the week for traffic & parking) to claim that local roads can accommodate their needs. It's also a mystery where the minibus shuttle routes and pick up points are going to be but watch out Alleyn Road and Alleyn Park as due to their width and positioning these would be prime park and ride zones and as this is a very large and rapidly expanding organisation the outlook for not just CP but the surrounding areas would be bleak if the change of use is permitted. Imagine the senario 6 back to back services of 1150 (6750 per day) people each and every Sunday, the majority who will be driving to CP arriving and leaving at same time. During crossover, people arriving for next service and those leaving from previous, we'd be expecting 2300 congregants at any time. The effect will be siege-like for local residents and people who use CP for range of independent shops, galleries, markets, restaurants and bars will obviously go elsewhere to avoid the weekend gridlock. The application is unworkable and unsustainable. It does not meet the churches needs and would be catastrophic for residents, traders and users of Crystal Palace and beyond.
