  1. Not sure why this thread was pulled but here it is again - edited to add oops! It wasn't pulled just sunk. My apologies admin please pull. London Mayor Boris Johnson entered into a secret agreement with a Chinese billionaire six months before a ?500 million scheme to build a replica Crystal Palace was announced publicly, a group of local residents allege in a letter sent to their MPs. http://insidecroydon.com/2014/01/19/boris-accused-over-secret-500m-chinese-takeaway/ Here's the link to the secret Memorandum of Understanding between the ZRG, GLA and Bromley http://www.scribd.com/mobile/doc/200968435 Here's link to the petition http://tinyurl.com/q7f6svr This proposal is of London-wide relevance as it is to build the biggest commercial complex of its kind in the country in Crystal Palace Park. The land the ZRG seek to control includes the terraces, bowl area, bus station, car parks and slip roads - half the park. The impact on ED and DV will be significant. The extra daily vehicles this will bring to the surrounding congested road networks has not been addressed. Croxted road will be one of the main feeder routes from the north. The increase in HGVs servicing this complex placing increased strain on the single lane, residential roads will be significant. Here's the statement from the Dulwich Society: "The problem with Crystal Place is the lack of public transport access ? buses cannot cope with the potential numbers nor can Crystal Place low level station (don?t forget in Victorian times there was a dedicated station nearby ? Crystal Place High level ? with four platforms and very frequent services). People will drive to it (there will have to be huge underground car parks) and Dulwich sits on the route south from central London. Dulwich Village is not very wide and the Tollgate on College Road will force drivers onto parallel roads, Croxted Road (which can hardly cope at the moment) Alleyn Road and Alleyn Park." http://www.dulwichsociety.com/news/922-crystal-palace-redevelopment

  3. Well, we will soon find out if there is to be a new local shopping mall or world trade centre just up the road from ED. A press conference is taking place in Crystal Palace Park tomorrow morning where the plans to sell the CPP hilltop to a billionaire investor will be unveiled. Buddog perhaps you could take the messy bedroom tax over to the lounge as was suggested few posts ago. I would also add that expressing your dislike for James, here, ad infinitum has gone from tedious to ugly and back again. I hope you can redirect your hurt and anger over this issue in more positive ways, actions that will hopefully have some real impact for those you seek to champion. Let's leave this thread to Cllr Barber.
  6. Good idea gardenfairy - the library, the Picture Gallery and any piece of undeveloped land.
  7. Yes thanks ianr. Curioser and curiouser. A charity based company would be registered with Companies House, did quick web check and found following: http://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk//compdetails http://companycheck.co.uk/director/903891607 The twitter account is new, started in July and has over 2,000 followers but there is no facebook. So no web presence other than a two month old twitter account and some adds on Gumtree, no valid company or charitable registration. Stk appears to be operating under the radar - wonder if HMRC have heard of them.
  8. It's an odd one - restrictive, parochial and inward looking but I guess that's how it works. I can't see myself using an ED version because I find it hard enough to keep track of one currency plus I couldn't be bothered having to change sterling to ED? and majority of my financial transactions are done with a card not cash.
  9. New pavement cycle lanes are part of the Paxton Green Roundabout improvements. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200431/street_improvements/2584/paxton_green_roundabout_improvements/1 Southwark are holding an open eve at Kingsdale School 17:30 - 19:30 on Thursday 03/10.

  13. GG you are quick to jump to assumptions. I said that the tone of your posts is hostile and arrogant, not that it offends me. Thanks for setting out the background to this - I agree with your last point as I would like to know more about the work of this group, how it benefits young people and how to support it.
  14. Dogs and bikes on one thread, it's going to get messy. I think Lady D is making a case for better road conditions for cyclists, which needs addressing not dismissing. I very much doubt that the increase in cyclists on London's streets is matched by investment in cycle friendly infrastructure. I don't condone pavement peddling, pushing or pooing - said it would get messy.
  15. If a member if this forum was trying to pass a dodge organisation off as a charity I would imagine EDF would be the last they would advertise. Giggirl has yet to provide a shred of evidence to prove that this group are not worth a donation. I find the tone of her posts hostile and arrogant and the use of insults weak. Can anyone explain what this organisation is being accused of?
  16. Alec, reeko made some good points, as have you, we just have different views on exec pay. Voyageur - I agree!

  18. Good points reeko. US Save The Kids does not claim to be a registered charity. It is a grassroots, not for profit, organisation. One of the reasons I imagine it has not opted for charitable status is because of the way that status would restrict it's activities. For example one of the ways it engages with young people is by showing them how to make a difference by engaging with politics through nonviolent, creative, protest. The OP asked if save the kids was a registered charity, she did not say that it was passing itself off as one. A number of conclusions have been arrived at on this thread without any evidence to back them up. I just don't find kangaroo courts helpful and it would be good to have some facts as opposed to conjecture before writing this group off. I remain open minded.
  19. Alec, is foolish to dismiss pay in the sector as an "unhelpful distraction". Not only does it undermine public confidence in the sector but at grassroots levels it diverts revenue from the needy to the greedy.
  20. The reason cyclists don't use the pavements as often as they could is nothing to do with the law or the adundance of super safe cycle lanes, no, the reason we dont see many pavement peddlers in ED is all down to the menace of the pram pushers. Yeah, you pushers know who you are, weaving you're way along the North Cross Road pavements on market days shamelessly forcing pavement walkers into the paths of pavement peddlers - fuelling the f®iction. This thuggery has got to stop.

Shame on anyone whose actions take > money from charities who need it. First of all I very much doubt the presence of Save the Kids will impede upon the fund raising of registered charities but being a registered charity does not guarantee that it's a worthy cause. Secondly the link posted is the only web presence for Save the Kids - it is not beyond the realms of possibility that collections were being made here for an overseas organisation is it? What "really pisses me off"is the way some UK charities get away with ripping of supporters and taxpayers whilst lining their leaders' pockets. http://www.uckg.org/press/?page_id=33926 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/private-hospital-chain-nuffield-health-1866531 And the way charities are used as tax avoidance screens: http://www.thirdsector.co.uk/Finance/article/1180380/charities-named-beneficiaries-tax-avoidance-scheme-say-received-no-donations/
  22. Sooner Boris gets on his bike the better.
  23. Voyageur - are you saying you moan on a regular basis?
  24. Save the Kids is a "grassroots organisation" according to the website http://savethekidsgroup.org/
